2002-07-23 Thread pavel hampl

sorry, I did not understand that you need the FIRST LINE
indentation. This should probably be done with hard spaces
"ctrl+space". Probably somebody knows why deeper paragraphs
do not have the first line indented. The same thing was
discussed as known bug in 1.1.[56] versions for each first
paragraph after some another text types. E.g. if you create
[sub]section or list, the next paragraph will not have the
first line indented.

I do not use 1.2 version, maybe it is repaired already?

2002-07-23 Thread pavel hampl

try this:

-write the first paragraph and set is as enumerated
-write the second paragraph, it should be enumerated with 2
-write the paragraph you want to be indented. NOW it is
enumerated with 3
-write the next paragraph if any, it has to have 4
-go to the paragraph with 3 and change it from "enumerated"
to "standard"; now the next paragraph has 1 again
- change depth of the "standard" paragraph; it should be
indented and the next paragraph has number 3

1. first paragraph

2. second paragraph

   third paragraph

3. fourth paragraph

the depth can be changed either through menu "Layout| change
env. depth", or with "Shift-Alt-Right" or with the button of
indented paragraph with arrows on both sides.

Is that what you need?

I see, the easiest way is to insert some space with ert.
If you need it in a lot of cases then another solution
maybe useful.

Thank you very much, but I'm afraid that your solution
doesn't put a left indent on the second paragraph
of the enumeration.

I need my DVI to look like this:

1. This is the first item, and spans
only one paragraph. It has no left
 indentation, as you can see.

2. This is the second item, and it
spans two paragraphs. This is the
first paragraph and has no indenta-
 tion.
This is the second paragraph, and
is indented. But it has no numbering,
because it belongs to the same enu-
 meration item, the second item.

whereas your solution does this:

1. This is the first item, and spans
only one paragraph. It has no left
 indentation, as you can see.

2. This is the second item, and it
spans two paragraphs. This is the
first paragraph and has no indenta-
 tion.

This is the second paragraph, and
is not indented. But it has no numbering,
because it belongs to the same enu-
 meration item, the second item.

Thanks Herbert,
I looked at it, and it is not what I need.

What I need is that my DVI looks like this:

1. This is the first item, and spans

 indentation, as you can see.

2. This is the second item, and it
spans two paragraphs. This is the

 tion.
This is the second paragraph, and
is indented. But it has no numbering,
because it belongs to the same enu-
 meration item, the second item.

whereas your lyx file, when made a DVI, looked like:

1. This is the first item, and spans
only one paragraph. It has no left
 indentation, as you can see.

2. This is the second item, and it
spans two paragraphs. This is the
first paragraph and has no indenta-
 tion.

This is the second paragraph, and
is indented. But it has no numbering,
because it belongs to the same enu-
 meration item, the second item.

Sorry for bothering, bye

With package rotfloat, which maybe part of your local TeX-system, you
can rotate all floats, the builtin ones or the ones defined with the
package float.

\usepackage{rotfloat}

\begin{sidewaysfigure}

Re: Still problems with xfig and pstex files

2002-07-23 Thread Michael Jaeger

Hi,

I had the same problem once. The solution is quite simple:

  - Add "\usepackage[dvips]{color}" in "Layout>Latex Preamble..."
  - Insert the Xfig-File via "Insert>External Material" and
choose "Xfig" as Template and then choose the filename
of your figure

This solution has the advantage that you can use the power of latex-formula
type-setting in your figure by editing the properties of the label with the
formula and choosing the "Special Flag" as "Special". Now you can type in the
formulas as you are used to in latex (like "$\pi^{2}").

Michael.

How to have an enumeration item span more than one paragraph?

2002-07-23 Thread Maurizio

Hello,

How can I have an enumeration item span more than one paragraph?

In latex I would do:

\begin{enumerate}

\item This is the first paragraph of an
enumeration item and will have number one.

This is the second paragraph and will have no numbering,
  but it will be left-indented.

\item This is the second item and will have number two.

\end{enumerate}

How can I do that with Lyx?

I should have clarified. I already have these lines in my local math.bind
When I type "M-m g a" when inside a math box, all I get is a regular
letter "a", not an alpha. When I type this in normal text mode, I get a
blue math box and then the normal letter "a" preceding the math box even
though I typed the "a" last.

The capital Greeks (mis)behave similarly.

It must be me...
I still have problems using ps+latex files exported from Xfig. I have
read the document detailing how to do itn http://www.lyx.org/help, but
to no avail. OK, here's a point by point guide:
1./ I add \usepackag{graphicx} to the preamble
2./ The figure is created in xfig and saved as ps+latex
3./ A fig float is inserted in the document
4./ Inside the float, I insert->Include File
5./ the name of the xfig-exported file is thrown in (file.pstex_t), and
the only button selected is "Use Include".
6./ I add a caption and all
7./ the PS preview shows the caption, some white space, but the figure
is nowhere to be seen.

The files are in the same directory as my lyx document. I have tried
adding full paths to the \include command, but to no avail.

Well you get good results with
http://sourceforge.net/projects/rtf2latex2e/

Unfortunately logical formatting is not supported, meaning you get what you
see on the screen, but no logical markup.

The best way to implement all of this would be a latex/lyx export filter for
OpenOffice.org.

How to apply styles with the keyboard?

2002-07-23 Thread Maurizio

Hello,

Is there a way to apply styles with the keyboard? Currently I am
selecting the paragraph(s) and clicking with the mouse on the dropdown
list on the upper-left.
Is it possible to apply, say, an "enumerate" environment with the
keyboard?

And what about custom styles (I have just created a layout file which
defines some paragraph styles)?

Thank you very much!!!

Yes, the greek-toggle is gone. See the discussion in this bug:

I will document the changes in math.bind in the UPGRADING file.

Re: Re: Windows98 Notes: was: Re: cannot convert file

2002-07-23 Thread gofreddo

Hi All,

I just tried these suggestions. I could not find
the font reference mentioned in the dvips message.
ie "! couldn't find header file cm-super-t1.enc"
I mean I couldn't find it in any of the map files.

LyX doesn't seem to be the problem, since I can
both export to tex format and run latex ok. The
problem starts when I try to run dvips. I reckon
there is something wrong with MikTex or some
setting for MikTex or with my path setting.

OK will try a few more things ... check out GSView
and so on ...

regards
Fred
