Getting word Appendices in toc

2004-06-01 Thread Damon

Hello,
I am having trouble getting the word Appendices to appear in my table of
contents. I am writing a long, multi-part document on version 1.2.1 using
article format. I have created a file Main.lyx that uses include to tie
together all of the sections and appendices into one document. I have
used the command
\addcontentsline{toc}{section}{Title Page} to get my title page, etc.
to show up in the toc, but can't get just the word Appendices to show up
in the right spot. When I use this same command (repacing Title page with
Appendices), and place it after the line signifying the start of the
appendices in Main.lyx and just before the include spot for the first
appendix, Appendices appears after A (the first appendix) in the toc.
Is there a way to make this word appear above the first appendix (A) in
the Table of Contents and have the same page number as the first appendix?
I have searched the archives and have found nothing that helps.
  Many thanks,
Damon

enabling index breaks export?

2004-06-01 Thread stephan beal
Hi, Lyxers!

(i'm new to this list, but have been using lyx for several years now.)

i have a problem which i'm hoping someone can help me solve:

i recently went through one of my docs and added a bunch of index
entries. That all works fine and good. However, when i insert the INDEX
down at the bottom of the doc, i can no longer export it. i get an
error message saying something like an error has occurred. Please fix
it and try again. Removing the INDEX fixes it. :/

The lyx file, in case anyone's interesting in looking at it, is here:

http://s11n.net/download/prerelease/s11n.lyx

To reproduce the error simply open that file, add an INDEX tag at the
bottom, and try to export to (e.g.) PDF.

i'm using lyx 1.3.2 on this box, and have the same problem on my home
box (forgot the lyx version number - whatever ships with suse 9.1).

Curiously, exporting the doc using the 'lyxport' tool mostly works:
the doc is converted/export but the index is simply missing. Lyxport,
for those who don't know it, is a great tool for mass-converting lyx
files: http://www-hep.colorado.edu/~fperez/lyxport

i suspect i'm just mis-using the index feature, and i'm hoping someone
can point me along the right path.

Many thanks in advance for any tips,

lyx? Sorry to be dumb but what do I have to do in lyx to align the
two figures vertically?
Do as in the example, and the figures _will_ be side by side.
The example uses two figures, each in separate minipages.
Latex tries to put stuff on the same line until the line gets full. If
the two
minipages is 50% (or less) of column width, then they will fit on a
single line
and you get two figures on the same line.

The recipe aligns one figure with the left margin and one with the right
margin,
because there is a hfill between them. (hfills take up all excess space
on a line).

If you don't want your figures right at the edges, try putting a hfill
before the
first one and a hfill after the last one too. Note that this only
shuffles the minipages
around. The figure inside a minipage may be smaller than the minipage, and
possibly badly aligned inside it. Put the cursor inside the minipage,
in the same paragraph as the figure. Then select layout-paragraph and
use centered, right-justified
or left-justified. (The setting applies only to that one paragraph
inside the minipage,
nothing happens to the minipage itself.) You can also use hfills inside
the minipage
if you find that easier.

If this don't help, please ask a more detailed question. Tell what you
try to do,
how it goes wrong, and provide a minimal example file.

Your index entries contain LaTeX command characters like '#', '' and
'_'. To avoid that LaTeX use them as commands set a backslash before,
like '\_'.

LyX inserts the backslash automatically in the background if you type a
command character in normal text. But within index entries you have to

\hyphenation database ? - hyphenation mistakes..?

2004-06-01 Thread peter.may
Hello,

actually I do have numerous hyphenation mistakes - caused by the automatic
tex algorithm - in my german-lyx-document.

I searched the web - and the general suggestion is to put all special
cases
as \\hyphenation{break-me-here} in the preamble.

Now I do have over 20 cases in my preamble and there is still no end
(still
80 pages to proof-read)

:(

Is there actually an easy way to use a kind of flatfile as database?
something like *include myhyphenation.txt* in the preamble and an easy to
edit text file for it - the Lyx-option: Layout-document-preamble is to
complicated if you have to deal with a lot of words...

e.g. I do have a *DUDEN* under Linux here (german orthography) or maybe
any web-ressource?

There should be a way to take part of others \\hyphenation-work - as I
do have very simple words which are just wrong using the lyx-default...

Any recommendations? How do you deal with this issue?

Thanks!

down at the bottom of the doc, i can no longer export it. i get an
error message saying something like "an error has occurred. Please fix
it and try again." Removing the INDEX fixes it.

Curiously, exporting the doc using the 'lyxport' tool "mostly" works:
the doc is converted/export but the index is simply missing. Lyxport,
for those who don't know it, is a great tool for mass-converting lyx
files: http://www-hep.colorado.edu/~fperez/lyxport

i suspect i'm just mis-using the index feature, and i'm hoping someone
can point me along the right path.

Many thanks in advance for any tips,

Hi,
I have been trying to follow the instructions given at
http://wiki.lyx.org/pmwiki.php/Examples/FiguresSideBySide but I am
afraid I don't quite understand how to align the figures vertically. I
know that the question appears to be answered in the sample lyx file
pasted in the mailing list but I don't see how to actually do it from

Then select layout->paragraph and
use centered, right-justified
or left-justified. (The setting applies only to that one paragraph
inside the minipage,
nothing happens to the minipage itself.) You can also use hfills inside
the minipage
if you find that easier.

If this don't help, please ask a more detailed question. Tell what you
try to do,
how it goes wrong, and provide a minimal example file.

i got this after upgrading from Suse 9 to 9.1, and simply had to go
install a bunch of the [La]TeX-related packages, then in Lyx to a
"reconfigure" from the menu.

Your index entries contain LaTeX command characters like '#', '&' and
'_'. To avoid that LaTeX use them as commands set a backslash before,
like '\_'.

LyX inserts the backslash automatically in the background if you type a
command character in normal text. But within index entries you have to
do it manually.

Development of lyx 1.4.0 has today formally entered a feature freeze.
That doesn't give you a definitive date, but does mean that the
release is a little nearer, for some meaning of nearer.

Take a look at the package caption or the native caption features of the
KOMA classes.

\hyphenation "database" ? - hyphenation mistakes..?

2004-06-01 Thread peter.may
Hello,

actually I do have numerous hyphenation mistakes - caused by the automatic
tex algorithm - in my german-lyx-document.

I searched the web - and the general suggestion is to put all special
cases
as \\hyphenation{break-me-here} in the preamble.

Now I do have over 20 cases in my preamble and there is still no end
(still
80 pages to proof-read)

:(

Is there actually an easy way to use a kind of flatfile as database?
something like *include myhyphenation.txt* in the preamble and an easy to
edit text file for it -> the Lyx-option: Layout->document->preamble is to
complicated if you have to deal with a lot of words...

e.g. I do have a *DUDEN* under Linux here (german orthography) or maybe
any web-ressource?

There should be a way to take part of others \\hyphenation-work - as I
do have very simple words which are just wrong using the lyx-default...

Any recommendations? How do you deal with this issue?

Thanks!

Thanks, Lars. I suspected it was something like this. So, to put the
current file on the list I shut down LyX and restart it. Makes sense.

It should also show on a running lyx.
(last file loaded I mean)

Centering Chapter titles

2004-06-01 Thread Francisco J. León
Hi, i am using the "book" layout and it shows like this:
Chapter 1
The Title
Text
I need Chapter 1, the title to be centered instead of aligned to the
left.

The subtitles are shown in bold, i need them to _not_ be bold
Also in the first page of the chapter it uses a margin of about 6
centimeters, i need it to be smaller than 4cm.

I have tried doing a custom layout and putting it in my home dir's
layout dir inside my .lyx dir, for example:

Style Chapter
 TopSep 4
 LabelStringCapitulo
End
But it doesn't work (and i have checked that i was in fact using my
custom layout)

Can someone teach me how to do this changes? I am lost.
