BiBTeX programmer's guide?
Hi, I'm currently working on a BiBTeX style originally generated with 'latex makebst'. Now I try to customise the style to fit my needs e.g. to display some non-standard bibtex entries. In order to find solutions for some merely logical problems within the code I would need a programmer's guide for BibTex. But, such a book seems not to exists at all. The only relevant documents I have found is Patashnik's Designing BiBTeX Styles, which is informative but does not cover all the issues I am looking for. Does anybody know BiBTeX hacking/programming guides/manuals (or relevant links etc.)? Thanks in advance! Kind regards, Kimmo

That's how I get: `^~ I don't need that trick for ', because the ' also exists on a non-dead key on my keyboard. If you're using linux, try holding down the altgr/right alt key and see what you get when typing. Lots of uncommon characters are mapped that way, giving me such things as: P þ o œ s ß d ð f đ g ŋ h ħ z « x » c © v “ b ” m µ Helge Hafting
Re: Download Classes
Carlos Knauer wrote: Hi. From where do I download classes (or layouts) for LyX ? Thanks, -- Carlos Fernando Knauer Classes are part of your LaTeX distribution. Most of the available LyX layouts ship with LyX, but there are some user-contributed ones on the Wiki: http://wiki.lyx.org/Layouts/Layouts. If you need a layout for class not covered by one of those sources, you have to write your own (or induce someone to write it for you). Writing your own is discussed in the documentation, and there are links to one or two articles on the Wiki layout page. Paul
Re: Inserting Accented Characters easily?
In my machine (linux, lyx1.3.5) with language english us_international (or something like that) if, for example, I write in french, the "accent aigu" (how is it said in english?) is '+a => á, the grave is `+a => à and so on. Hope it will help jorge On Wed, 5 Oct 2005, Stacia Hartleben wrote: > Is there a trick to inserting accented characters? Hyphenation --- but before: Thank you!
Thanks a lot everyone! I've never saw so good and swift answers in a mail list before this! I solved the problem again. Hence cause of you! About hyphens: I need to write the most part of my docs in portuguese and some in spanish langs. But the LaTeX always hyphenize the document. It is great, and it always do it correctly in english, but sometimes it is wrong in portuguese, like "cat-egoria" (the right way is "ca-te-go-ri-a". Well, I know it is easy put manual hyphen on each critical words, but I need some easy way to do it --- once the Lyx purpose is the user 'do his best text, and let the Lyx work on the format', it's nonsense to correct the LaTeX hyphenation. :) Any sugestions? Maybe some resource to turn off the LaTeX hyphenation job? Take care! -- Abraços! Douglas ___ Novo Yahoo! Messenger com voz: ligações, Yahoo! Avatars, novos emoticons e muito mais. Re: Poor men's scientific workplace.
On 10/3/05, Bo Peng <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > "Oh, I see, this is poor men's scientific workplace". > I get his first complain against lyx today: "The lyx file is corrupted after I edit your formula, I hope that you can open this file...". The real problem, as I later found out, is that he accidentally inserted a math symbol \times in a \textrm box, a problem I had asked for a thorough solution many times in this list. I think this is a perfect complain from a new lyx user, warning us about the userfriendlyness of lyx. There are good reasons why lyx behaves this way but this little problem may have driven hundreds of lyx users away. As a matter of fact, 1. lyx1.2.x automatically switch to math mode if a user enter a math symbol in a text box. This worked very well in practise. 2. lyx 1.3.x introduces nested ?? and allows insertion of math symbol in text mode. This has caused *many* problems for new users. Note that this problem is hard to find even in an exported latex file. Andre' insisted that users *should be able to tell blue (math) from black (text) and a black math symbol is enough to indicate a wrong formula'. However, in reality, 1. Many users do not know latex that well to know $\textrm{\alpha}$ is wrong. 2. Many users do not know the difference between blue and black symbols. 3. The error message does not help. There may be several errors, far away from the original location, and tell something totally irrelevant. This is enough to scare newbies away. I remember that one technique problem was that we can not list all math symbols so we do not know exactly what is *not* allowed in \textrm. However, statistically speaking, it is more than enough to disallow 100 commonly used symbols in \textrm. I assume that the rest of the 0.01% users, if they know some rarely used symbols, must have known latex/lyx well enough to figure out the problem by themselves. Bo
An interesting little problem.
Dear list, To track the changes of a lyx file, I insert $Rev$ in the text. After first 'svn ci', $Rev$ is replaced by $Rev: 40 $. However, when I open and save this file, $Rev: 40 $ is replaced by $Rev:40$ (blank spaces are removed) which can no longer be recognized by subversion. Anyone know a quick solution? Bo.
