Newspaper Package

2011-03-16 Thread Dean Chandler

I use Lyx 1.6.5 under Ubuntu Linux version 10.04.

Has anyone used the Newspaper Package with Lyx?
I believe I have all the required packages, because everything works
very well with the Texworks and Texmaker Latex programs.
However, after importing the example tex file into Lyx, I received three
errors making the dvi output. These are listed below.

I don't know enough about the innards of Lyx to know if it is even
possible to use the Newspaper Package. I would appreciate any advice.

Hi there,

The bad news is: LyX does not support arbitrarily all latex packages out
there. Obviously it does not have out of the box support for yours.

There is some hope though: You can customize LyX in many ways, including
the support of new packages through modules. See the LyX customization
manual that you find in the help menu. More on this below...

All your errors relate to the same: window is not a latex environment
that LyX knows about. You will need to instruct LyX how to handle this
by use of a module. It looks as though the latex should have the form

\begin{window}[some instruction]

and I can't remember if LyX supports such syntax. Right now you see
{[} instead of just [ in the source because LyX is trying to be too
clever. As a workaround you might want to put [ and ] in ERT (Insert
TeX code). This will prevent LyX from adding the surrounding braces.

LyX 2.0 and XeTeX: Floats (figures, etc) are not translated

2011-03-16 Thread Nikos Chantziaras
I'm using LyX from SVN on Linux and on top of TeX Live 2010. I'm using
XeTeX and have selected Greek as the language in the document's
settings. Everything is translated correctly except for floats. For
example, using a float figure results in a float that is labeled (for
example) Figure 1.1. In English. It is not getting translated to Greek.

Does anyone know of a quick fix for this?

LyX automatically adds certain packages to the preamble if it spots the need for
them, but it only sees one of a set of known triggers. Best guess, what you
were doing didn't hit a known trigger. You could file a bug report. I don't
know enough LaTeX to know if there is a fairly concise set of conditions under

Windows AltInstaller for LyX 2.0.0rc1

2011-03-16 Thread Michal Skrzypek
In absence of the official maintainer (Uwe Stöhr) of LyX Alternate
Installer for Windows, I've stepped in and created 'unofficial'
installer for LyX version and 2.0.0rc1 (this is actually r37916
installer, which means it is slightly newer than 2.0.0rc1).

As I'm not a LyX developer, I'm not really sure about the quality of
this installer. It worked for me and for the testers, though.

For now the file is hosted on hotfile. It should also be soon
uploaded to ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/contrib/unofficial/ (where my old
installer for 2.0.0beta4 resides), but as the developers remain silent,
I'm not completely sure about this. If someone is willing to host this
and future versions of 'my' installer, please contact me off the list.

The location follows:

http://hotfile.com/dl/110539692/591d4ee/LyX-2.0.0rc1-AltInstaller.zip.html

WARNING!!!
==

THIS INSTALLER CONFLICTS WITH LyX 1.6.x !!!

So, don't try to install LyX 2.0 together with LyX 1.6 - it will
destroy/overwrite LyX 1.6 settings.

For details, see http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/7315). I still
cannot find where the path to the LyX settings is hardcoded in the
installer (aside from Settings.nsh), so the bug will remain there for
the time being...

You have been warned...

Technical details
-

To compile LyX, I've used msvc 2008 express together with SCons, which
is the recommended route for compiling LyX 2.0.0-beta4. For some reasons
unknown to me, it is no longer the case with 2.0.0-rc1 (there, msvc 2010
with CMake are recommended)

Then I've used the 'LyxPackage' released semi-officially
by Uwe Stöhr for LyX 2.0beta3, replaced and changed some files,
and finally built the installer.

In case of any problems you can mail me, but I can't promise
anything (please CC me, as I am not subscribed there).

url{} package not working

2011-03-16 Thread Rich Shepard

Perhaps because it's the end of the day I cannot see why a URL embedded in
the text is not typeset in the monospace font and split across lines.

  Running lyx-1.6.8 on Slackware-13.1.

The preamble contains \usepackage{url}. The text has an ERT box with
\url{http://www}. When I preview the output the text is typeset in the
article body typeface and extends well into the right margin.

Other documents here have the same preamble and specify the URLs the same
way. I do not see why this instance is fighting me.
