Working in LyX from the get-go---more or less

2012-07-31 Thread Eric Weir

I've been away from LyX for a while, writing in Vim. I now have a document that
I need to cut down to 3,500 words from just under 5,000, put references in, and
get into APA format in Word. Normally, I would dump the draft in Scrivener, do
this work, then compile for Word. I really want to get completely over into
working within Vim/LyX/LaTeX. I'm considering dumping the draft in LyX and
working from within it. My deadline---probably not a hard one---is tomorrow.

Having been away from LyX for a while, I'm a little rusty. I don't know if this
is even possible. When I click on View other formats, the RTF format is
greyed out. If in fact I can compile for or export to RTF, I'd like to give it
a try.

Es posible?

Gracias,

You have already been told that you should perhaps read the provided
error messages and then act on them such as installing the missing
LaTeX packages, but one could actually help, if you provided a
minimal example file, ie one where EVERYTHING has been taken out
which does not contribute to the failure.

Most often the problem solves itself, because once the issue has
been isolated the solution presents itself.

In any case this is not a LyX issue, but a LaTeX one, etoolbox is
present on MacTeX 2012, but then I have no idea about MikTeX.

Importing/Exporting RTF/Word documents is usually a pain with
LyX/LaTeX. This has been discussed extensively in the past on the

Richard's suggestions, you could try eLyXer for HTML export (to be

Good luck

PS Maybe Steve and Rob have something to add on Vim/LyX/Scrivener.

When I click on "View other formats," the RTF format is

Non-full-screen full-screen

2012-07-31 Thread Eric Weir

I'm used to other apps not changing the size of the app window when going
full-screen, instead simply putting the existing window into an otherwise black
screen. LyX changes the window size to a literal full screen.

Is there a way to do a non-full-screen full-screen?

If you want to export to RTF, then you need to install latex2rtf or some
similar program. But I've had better luck lately exporting to the
LyXHTML format, and then loading that in LibreOffice.

Importing/Exporting RTF/Word documents is usually a pain with
LyX/LaTeX. This has been discussed extensively in the past on the
list, and I think there is also something on the wiki. In addition to
Richard's suggestions, you could try eLyXer for HTML export (to be
imported into Word) and the LibO-powered export to ODT (although I'm
not seeing it in my menus right now).

Good luck
Liviu

PS Maybe Steve and Rob have something to add on Vim/LyX/Scrivener.

Using XHTMP export has the benefit that you can then use XSLT. I've
used this successfully to export LyX format to an unrelated XML

I wouldn't have considered HTML, but if you can get a Word-compatible document
that way I'm willing to try.

Occurs to me that I might ask this journal if they accept LaTeX. I've always
sent Word-compatible in the past, and have just assumed that's what they want,
or all that they'll accept.

Footnote: jump to page one

2012-07-31 Thread Christian
When inserting footnotes, the reference in the text (PDF file) that relates to
the footnote gets you jump to page one (when clicked) instead of to the bottom
of the page where the footnote is located.

Does anyone know how to get the reference to actually have you skip to the
bottom of the page?

Yeah, that timeout problem is different, and one we've had on several
other occasions. The guess is that it has something to do with trac.
Sometimes it resolves itself; sometimes I have to restart httpd.

LyX comes with support for a lot of external tools, provided that
these are installed and that LyX is 'reconfigured' (Tools >
Reconfigure). A good place to check which additional packages are
supported is the Debian/Ubuntu .deb packages (the 'suggested' list).
Another way is to check the 'configure.py' script coming with LyX.
