Re: problem with compiling

2013-08-01 Thread Omar Bamieh
Hi Scot and thanks for your email. I'm using version 2.0.6 of LyX on
Windows 7. I had recently installed Adobe Acrobat Pro XI, since I
feared that it may have caused the problem I uninstalled it and know I
am using Texworks as pdf which is installed by Lyx by default.

Do you have any tips what may cause the problem?

Thanks,

Omar

if I try to get a preview or try to export the file it goes on for a

The strange thing is that if I re-install everything from scratch,
then Lyx works only for the first time I open it. If I close it and
open it again it does not work anymore!

The fact that I do not even get an error message makes it even harder
to find some help on online forums. So, I have decided to write to the
 mailing list. Please help me!

 Hi Omar,

Which OS do you use? Which version of LyX do you use and where did you
download the installer? Which PDF reader do you use?

Does LyX work again if you delete (don't forget to back up if you
want) your user directory? In Linux, the user directory is ~/.lyx. On
other operating systems, check Help About.

Hi Ioannis,

If it were me, assuming I wanted the Acknowledgements on their own
page, what I would do is create an environment (LaTeX-speak for
paragraph styles) for the Acknowledgement's title, and one for its body
text, and use those. No muss, no fuss, no hassle.

The way I make environments is by using a layout file. If you don't
already have one, here are some details:

http://www.troubleshooters.com/lpm/200210/200210.htm#_MakingYourOwnLayout

Since that article was written, LyX has become much more accommodating
to having your layout file in the same directory as your document, so
these days, that's what I always do. No symlink required.

Thanks,

If I move over a space with left -, now I'm outside title and hit ret. OK. I
seem to be inserting text in the frame.

Now I want to try out block. I choose 'block'. It seems this block is now on

I don't see how to put the block in the current frame.

We are proud to announce the first public beta release of the new LyX 2.1

LyX 2.1.0beta1 is the culmination of two and half years of hard work.
This release is meant for testing before we actually release LyX 2.1.

An overview of the new features can be found here:

Re: Using Theorems (Numbered by Type) with Named Theorems

2013-08-01 Thread Paul Rubin
I'm not sure what happened with my previous reply; it seems to be
disconnected from this thread. At any rate, I tried another hack: rather
than including all the starred theorems (possible undesired pollution of the
environment drop-down list), I just hacked theorems-named.module to replace
the CopyStyle Theorem* line with the necessary lines from the Theorem*
style. In tests, it seems work as expected, allowing the named theorems
module to be used with any otherwise legal combination of theorem-related
modules (or by itself, without any other theorem modules).

Should we move this over to the developer forum as an RFC, or should I just
file a ticket with the fix attached?

You could try graphic groups. See section Grouping of Image Settings
 in Help User Guide.

 Scott

Then I can use this new group fullwidth on images. So when I insert image,
 I
can switch to the LaTeX and LyX tab, select the fullwidth group. That's not
any less work unfortunately. Now if I could make the fullwidth group the
 default...

You could use the following action:
inset-insert graphics width 100text%
Bind that to a shortcut, then run the shortcut, click on the empty
box, then click on browse to select the graphic. Is that any better?

Note that this is somewhat a hack and is not guaranteed to work well
or in future versions of LyX. For example the graphics dialog normally
requires a filename. We might make it so the action does as well.

Libertine support LyX version 2.1.0 (beta 1)

2013-08-01 Thread Dr Eberhard Lisse
The latest version of libertine in MacTeX 2013 (updated with tlmgr)
lacks the file libertineMono-type1.sty.

I took libertineRoman-type1.sty, modified it accordingly, put it into my
local tree, texhashed, reconfigured LyX and it works.

Cool.

 Hi Omar,

Which OS do you use? Which version of LyX do you use and where did you

Does LyX work again if you delete (don't forget to back up if you

I don't see how to put the block in the current frame.

Hi,

what do call "does not remember"?

A known issue is: LyX-2.1 doesn't use the same settings as 2.0.
The settings of 2.0 are not copied to the settings of 2.1, ATM.

Hmm, I think, I didn't understand you.

I tried to move some standard toolbar from top to left margin and it worked.

The file where LyX saved this change is:

Can you see any problem there?

Thanks,

That's a known problem. The Apply button changes the settings for
the current session only and doesn't make it persistent.

One has to use the Save button.

This works for me.

Are you using any tool to manage size and/or position of the windows
of your desktop applications? Like Divvy or something similar?

This was problematic in the past…

And as I wrote in the previous mail, on my system (10.8.4 + LyX 2.1 beta1)
toolbar positions are persistent and correctly restored on restart.

Nope. Plain Mac Os X 10.8.4, and this is the only program I have
ever encountered this with. But it also happened on Os 10.7 if I
remember correctly.

Then I can use this new group "fullwidth" on images. So when I insert image, I
can switch to the LaTeX and LyX tab, select the "fullwidth" group. That's not
any less work unfortunately. Now if I could make the "fullwidth" group the
default...

2.6.1beta0 and Beamer

2013-08-01 Thread Dr Eberhard Lisse
Jürgen,

are there known issues transferring presentations from 2.06 to 2.6.1beta0?

If so, which are they? Because I a seem to have some and if they are
known I don't need to trace them down to a minimal example and can just
work on them with 2.0.6 for the time being.

2.1.0beta1 beamer ui issues

2013-08-01 Thread Neal Becker
I'm trying out 2.1.0beta1. Interested in beamer improvements.

I'm finding the ui confusing. I start off with a frame environment and put in
a
title. I'd now expect to hit ret to put text into the frame. ret is disabled.
If I move over a space with left ->, now I'm outside title and hit ret. OK. I
seem to be inserting text in the frame.

Now I want to try out block. I choose 'block'. It seems this block is now on
a
new frame - not inside the current frame.

I don't see how to put the block in the current frame.

Re: Using Theorems (Numbered by Type) with Named Theorems

2013-08-01 Thread Paul Rubin
I'm not sure what happened with my previous reply; it seems to be
disconnected from this thread. At any rate, I tried another hack: rather
than including all the starred theorems (possible undesired pollution of the
environment drop-down list), I just hacked theorems-named.module to replace
the "CopyStyle Theorem*" line with the necessary lines from the Theorem*
style. In tests, it seems work as expected, allowing the named theorems
module to be used with any otherwise legal combination of theorem-related
modules (or by itself, without any other theorem modules).

Should we move this over to the developer forum as an RFC, or should I just
file a ticket with the fix attached?

Re: cant get bibtex file into pdf

I put your bibliography and style in a dummy document here and had no
problems -- all the references showed up in the bibliography as expected.
The problem may lay in the document.

Re: Help With Acknowledgements Please

Have you looked at File > New from Template > thesis > Acknowledgments.lyx?
I would try copying its contents into your thesis. (Note: the template may
ask you to let it create a dummy thesis document. You can delete that
document once you've determined whether pasting into your actual thesis works.)

What have you tried so far?

You have two replies with proposed solutions that were sent to the
list and not to you directly:
from Steve:

And then Paul just gave a reply that will show up at the bottom of

You could use the following action:
inset-insert graphics width 100text%
Bind that to a shortcut, then run the shortcut, click on the empty
box, then click on browse to select the graphic. Is that any better?

Note that this is somewhat a hack and is not guaranteed to work well
or in future versions of LyX. For example the graphics dialog normally
requires a filename. We might make it so the action does as well.

Hi Omar,

Adobe Acrobat X (X as in anything that follows) is known to cause
problems when working with LyX. I've heard good things about
SumatraPDF, an open-source and free PDF viewer for Windows:

Libertine support LyX version 2.1.0 (beta 1)

2013-08-01 Thread Dr Eberhard Lisse
The latest version of libertine in MacTeX 2013 (updated with tlmgr)
lacks the file libertineMono-type1.sty.

I took libertineRoman-type1.sty, modified it accordingly, put it into my
local tree, texhashed, reconfigured LyX and it works.

Cool.
