Nice - but this would be to much for the average LyX user to read. As
you have already written a lot about this topic, could you write just a
page for the LyX wiki and add your articles as links? This might help a
lot in clarifying the issue to users new to Free and Open Source software.

size on a modern HD. I was just thinking of a new user who could wonder
why the user guide does not compile first time.

FWIW, I could easily provide a French translation of this German
excerpt, even more so if you provide me with the English version :-)

i need your help. I want to have a numerical bibliography sorted by 
appearance in the text.


For example:

Bibliography:

But at the moment the numbers in the text are like this:

And the bibliography is in an alphabtic order.

Where is my mistake??

I've already arranged with Uwe that I would contact the French
translators. 

But 1st I'd like to find the German (?) excerpt(s) in the (French) User
Guide. There has to be one somewhere which also prevents this document
from compiling first time. I'd like to come up with something complete.
I'm working on it.

You have checked Sectioned Bibliography in Document  Settings 
Bibliography. This features uses the bibtopic package. In the bibtopic
manual, under Bugs and Restrictions, you can read

bibtopic.sty doesn't work with the 'unsorted' citation styles such as
unsrt or unsrtdin.

The bibtopic manual suggests to use a different package (such as multibib)
if you need sectioned bibliographies and unsrt. However, do you really need
sectioned bibliography? If yes, check these advices for alternatives to
bibtopic with LyX:

basic familiarity with cygwin, but after struggling with what I found

W7-64bit, MikTeX 2.9 (which contains pdfcrop.exe and pdftex.exe, both
in C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex\bin\x64)
Cygwin64 with perl v5.14.4, there does not appear to be an option to
update perl when running Cygwin's setup-x86_64.exe update tool.

Have you tried installing pdfcrop via MiKTeX? That should work.

Cross references sometimes show question marks

Im pretty new to Lyx and use the 2.0.7 version on windows 7. Currently I have the problem that some of my cross references are shown as question marks, if i convert the Lyx file into a pdf file. I already read that something may be disrupted in the reference process. But I dont get, why some cross references work and other did not. I got the same error for captions as well as tables. That problem only occurs if I choose formatted reference otherwise the file is converted correctly. I already checked the document class (Im using article) and there use refstyle (not prettyref) for cross reference is chosen. I also checked the Latex source to see if there are differences between the correct cross references and the once where it doe not work. But I could not find anything.

I've already arranged with Uwe that I would contact the French
translators. 

But 1st I'd like to find the German (?) excerpt(s) in the (French) User
Guide. There has to be one somewhere which also prevents this document
from compiling first time. I'd like to come up with something complete.
I'm working on it.

You have checked Sectioned Bibliography in Document  Settings 
Bibliography. This features uses the bibtopic package. In the bibtopic
manual, under Bugs and Restrictions, you can read

bibtopic.sty doesn't work with the 'unsorted' citation styles such as
unsrt or unsrtdin.

The bibtopic manual suggests to use a different package (such as multibib)
if you need sectioned bibliographies and unsrt. However, do you really need
sectioned bibliography? If yes, check these advices for alternatives to
bibtopic with LyX:

on Windows? (If such a thing is possible, that is.) I have a very
basic familiarity with cygwin, but after struggling with what I found

W7-64bit, MikTeX 2.9 (which contains pdfcrop.exe and pdftex.exe, both
in C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex\bin\x64)
Cygwin64 with perl v5.14.4, there does not appear to be an option to
update perl when running Cygwin's setup-x86_64.exe update tool.

Have you tried installing pdfcrop via MiKTeX? That should work.

Cross references sometimes show question marks

Im pretty new to Lyx and use the 2.0.7 version on windows 7. Currently I have the problem that some of my cross references are shown as question marks, if i convert the Lyx file into a pdf file. I already read that something may be disrupted in the reference process. But I dont get, why some cross references work and other did not. I got the same error for captions as well as tables. That problem only occurs if I choose formatted reference otherwise the file is converted correctly. I already checked the document class (Im using article) and there use refstyle (not prettyref) for cross reference is chosen. I also checked the Latex source to see if there are differences between the correct cross references and the once where it doe not work. But I could not find anything.

Nice - but this would be to much for the average LyX user to read. As
you have already written a lot about this topic, could you write just a
page for the LyX wiki and add your articles as links? This might help a

Cross references sometimes show question marks

Hello,

 

I'm pretty new to Lyx and use the 2.0.7 version on windows 7. Currently I have the problem that some of my cross references are shown as question marks, if i convert the Lyx file into a pdf file. I already read that something may be disrupted in the reference process. But I don't get, why some cross references work and other did not. I got the same error for captions as well as tables. That problem only occurs if I choose 'formatted reference' otherwise the file is converted correctly. I already checked the document class (I'm using article) and there 'use refstyle (not prettyref) for cross reference' is chosen. I also checked the Latex source to see if there are differences between the correct cross references and the once where it doe not work. But I could not find anything.

Recombinant protein was produced in a baculovirus _expression_ system.

Sf21 cells were splitted, seeded in protein _expression_ medium as described

for the first cross reference I will get question marks but the later one works and I don't have any idea why.

I would be glad about any help.
