Re: LyX 2.3.5.2 Relesed

2020-07-12 Thread Bernd

Yes, I started it with the checkbox on the last page of the installer.

I use Windows 10 and was using administrator privileges to install LyX
2.3.5.2.

(The same happened with an ealier version of LyX.)

Strangely, this time I could not activate Acrobat Reader DC, even
though I found the output file.

After a restart, everything was OK.

Hello Bernd,

Thank you for your feedback. Can you please provide some more
information?

Which operating system are you using?
How exactly do you start LyX for the first time? E.g. on Windows
there is a checkbox on the last page of the installer. Or do you
simply launch the program like you would usually do?
Which pdf viewer are you using?

Problems with font Aegean

2020-06-22 Thread Bernd

This may be too special, but here it goes:

I downloded the font Aegean at: https://dn-works.com/ufas/

According to the manual, there should be alternative Glyphs available,
but I cannot make them appear.

Am I making a grammar mistake or is Aegean simply not compatible with LaTeX?

Hieroglyphs: invisible characters are not invisible

2020-05-24 Thread Bernd

I noticed that when I insert U+13430 EGYPTIAN HIEROGLYPH VERTICAL
JOINER, it does join the following characters (in my case two eyebrows
U+13083) but stays visible.

That happens to all the  invisible characters here:

Is this expected?

Re: Too large space before cross-references?

2020-04-05 Thread Bernd

In German, a thin space is used between abbreviations and numbers:

Now "table" is not an abbreviation, so I am not sure what do here...

A full space just feels too much, but maybe it's just me.

I'm a bit puzzled, too, why one would want a half space there. But it
is customizable. How depends upon whether you are using refstyle or
prettyref. For refstyle:

\newref{tab}{name = {table\thinspace{}}, Name = {Table\thinspace{}}}

Etc, if you want to redefine for the plural case.

For prettyref:

\newrefformat{tab}{Table\thinspace\ref{#1}}

authortitle !!! I was tired enough last night (≈ 23:00 or so) and

I think I even typed it once.

I always use American Psychology Association (APA) format it wants
(author, date) and I somehow interpreted title as date. Arrgh. My
excuse, and I'm sticking to it, is that I don't believe I have ever
seen an authortitle used.

I changed it to authoryear and it worked! It does not seem to be
giving me full APA6 yet but that should come.

Thanks for all the help.

No. I just had to modify the path since I do not have a path such as

I suppose your path is OK for you.

The log file shows that biber is indeed run (however, it is anyway
adviced that you set biber in Document Settings Bibliography,
since with standard, LyX uses whatever is set in Tools Preferences

Anyway, the problematic line is this:

Please delete the folder

C:\Users\Bernd\AppData\Local\Temp\par-4265726e64\

and try again.

This is a known (and obviously hard to fix) problem of biber. Some
times (though very unfrequently) it tries to access such invalid cache
folders. Deleting them always solves the problem. See

This is a known (and obviously hard to fix) problem of biber. Some

No. I just had to modify the path since I do not have a path such as

on my Linux box.

I suppose your path is OK for you.

The log file shows that biber is indeed run (however, it is anyway
adviced that you set biber in Document > Settings > Bibliography,

Re: Cannot find control file (.bcf)

2014-04-06 Thread Bernd Kappenberg

Hi Bernd,

I'm not sure about what you're trying to do. The file you sent has
basically no content, let alone citations. There is only one word,
LyX. There are no citations of any kind.

Second, the \addbibresource command in the preamble should include the
absolute path to the bib file, even if it is in the same directory as
the lyx file It works as it is in the your document because the bib
file is in a standard TeX location. This is not usually the case though).

Third, I am not sure if you want to use natbib. You did select the
natbib option in the settings, but you did not load the biblatex
module, nor did you indicate to biblatex that you want to use a
natbib-like style. You need to add the natbib=true option when you
load biblatex.

I added a couple of citations to your document, modified the biblatex
loading command, and added the biblatex module. The file compiles as
expected, it seems to me (see enclosed).

Or were you trying to cite all the references in the
biblatex-example.bib file in one single swoop? In that case, you
should add the command \nocite{*} in ERT in your document (I put it in
a LyX note, if you want to try it)

Cheers,

Stefano

Dear Stefano,

Thank you very much. Yes, \nocite{*} did the trick! I'm sorry I was not
clear what I wanted to do.

Do I need to say natbib=true? Because I said so already in my preferences.

Regards,
Bernd

Set it to Automatically, unless you really know what you are doing.
Your setting is bound to fail.

Strangely it worked, but anyway, now I've set it to Automatically.

! Undefined control sequence.
argument blx@lng@\bbl@main@language

This looks like a mismatch of polyglossia and biblatex. It might
be a problem in your setting/distribution (the file compiles fine
for me with XeTeX).

Does it work if you use pdflatex instead of XeTeX?

No :(

Wait, I think I know what's happening. Biblatex needs to detect
whether babel or polyglossia is used, but LyX loads polyglossia after
the user preamble, too late for biblatex detection.

Does it help if you write

\usepackage{polyglossia}

just before the \usepackage{biblatex} line?

Also no :(

But I found out it works if you set the language package from standard
to automatic!

Now it compiles... but does not contain any citations:

What language package do you have set in Tools > Preferences >
Language Settings > Language?

German, User defined, \usepackage{polyglossia}

Now it compiles... but does not contain any citations:

No surprise. At least the example file you sent me does not contains
any citations. Or did you inserted any in your copy

Yes, there should be citations of biblatex-examples.bib.

Why?

I changed English to German, but "user defined",
"\usepackage{polyglossia}" was default. I did not change that.

Cannot find control file (.bcf)

2014-04-04 Thread Bernd Kappenberg

Dear list,

I have the following error:

Biber error: Cannot find control file Neues_Dokument1.bcf! - did you pass the backend=biber option to BibLaTeX?

In the Tools/Settings?, the processor is biber. It is what LyX means?

I tried to fix it (by inserting usepackage(backend=biber]{biblatex} in the preamble) but without success.

(Im using LyX Version 2.1.0rc1.)

Bernd

babel vs. polyglossia

2013-10-20 Thread Bernd Kappenberg

I have a question:

When I compile a XeTeX document, babel will load – even though the
language processing is done by polyglossia.

Why is that so?
Can I stop babel from loading?

Thank you in advance,

2012-07-25 Thread Bernd Kappenberg

Hi,

I'm using

\usepackage[style=nature,backend=biber]{biblatex}

but it puts the references directly in a row, without a comma/semicolon
in between.

Do I have to load an additional package?

I've tried natbib but it clashes.

Thanks
Bernd

I need to write the complete path to the .bib file within the preamble:

\bibliography{/root/ my path to /myfile.bib} (my OS is linux)

In your .lyx document you need something like

\cite{AAA}
\nocite{*}
\printbibliography.

What does your log say?

Hi,

I downloaded LyX 2.0.4.
Then I followed the instructions on http://wiki.lyx.org/BibTeX/Biblatex.
However, the pdf generated does not have a bibliography.
I tried an own file as well as one of the examples on that site.

Please help...

Hi,

I followed your link and now I think it's a conflict between biblatex-
and biber versions.

Hopefully it will go away after the next MiKTeX update...

Thanks,
Bernd

Hi

i was not using biber, still it works fine with
\usepackage[backref,backend=biber]{biblatex} too, and I see a .bcf file
now.

I am not sure how to help you. (Did you check biblatex version and
writing permissions?)

Try to ask at http://sourceforge.net/projects/biblatex-biber/forums/

good luck
