Question :
I was not able to use lyx1.0.4, since it is compiled against an
unavailable library :

bash$ ldd /usr/bin/X11/lyx1.0.4
libforms.so.0.89 => not found
...

where libforms89 is not in my Linux Distribution (Debian).

Will I have the same problem with lyx1.1.1 ? => what is the solution ?

You could fake it using a table (instead of a matrix).

An example is attached -> if the brackets are too far from the matrix, I
am sure
that some playing with table-cell-widths could help ?

Dear Lyx Users,

It seems that I sent my previous email, concerning the world famous
Alexandra Hollander, not to my brother "Lieven" but to the whole
Lyx-list. Sorry for that. (blame it on point-and-click ruling the
informatics-universe and on my old mouse).

Boy, am I glad that I never write indecencies in my emails ! :-)

Hoi,

Onderaan de /. vandaag (alleen vandaag?) las ik het volgende citaat:

Xaviera Hollander spreekt Latijn !

Weten ze in de US eigenlijk wel wie dat is ?

I did change the names (in fact : I had 2 classes with different names
and the same layout). But the feature of not-deleting unknown
classes/styles could have these advantages :
 * users that experiment with new class definitions are allowed to make
(typing) mistakes
 * transitions between styles become reversible :
   users that make a PhD tekst ("book") by cutting and pasting from
older articles ("article") are able to make this step ("book" has
classes that "article" doesn't have) with less problems
 * users that write/compile/print there LyX file on a powerfull system
at home
but do some debugging on an older system (using an older version)
somewhere else
do not make changes just by loading the file

The fun in asking for features is that one has not to think about how
difficult it is to implement them!

I'll try.

Here is another (in my opinion) crucial feature that is missing :

I use a home-made adapted book.layout (at home lyx version 0.12).
I also use LyX at home and at work (where I didn't have this layout)(lyx
version 1.0.1).

When one opens a LyX file that contains an unkown style (e.g. by
changing the documenttype from article to book and reverse), then the
unknown style tags are DELETED. If I adapt a LyX file on a computer
that has a different layout files, and then go home, I have to reformat
the whole document.

Couldn't it be possible (as is done in html browsers ) to just ignore
unknown layout tags without deleting them ? Or to make a "unknown" style
?

Don't say it is in the helpfiles :-) .

Feature request

1999-10-05 Thread Gorik De Samblanx

Hi,

I am new on this mailinglist and I use quite intensively lyx1.0.1 (the
debian-stable version) (hm, this sounds like a disclaimer for stupid
questions :-) ).

I have some small and less small requests :

 a) (how) is it possible to draw a nth-square root ? It should look like

n   /\
_  /   n
 \/  1 - x

 b) I think that it should be possible to divide a long text in lyx into
different files (such as the chapters of a book), e.g. called a
"project". Then there could be one page covering the project
(containing
 * begin of document stuff
 * user-included header stuff (such as selfmade \newcommands)
 * \input chapter1.lyx --click!--+
 * \input chapter2.lyx   |
 * \input chapter3.lyx   |
...  |
 * end of document stuff |
 V
  ++
  | * begin of document stuff  |
  | * user-included header stuff   |
  | * chapter1.lyx |
  | * end of document stuff|
  ++

Clicking on a document should lyx then make to jump to the correct
window/file. So the different chapters can be compiled to a dvi-file
(including the header stuff!) while writing the text (resulting in wrong
pagenumbers et al.). If the text is complete, the whole text can be
compiled.

I assume that this request is not new.

 c) similarily, it should be possible to use MINIPAGES with lyx (e.g. in
the same way as included eps-files, where you click on the file and open
a window that shows the minipage/eps-file contents)

More to come...

Regards,

Gorik
