After installing some versions of LyX there are several directories on my harddisk, just like $home/.lyx/... /usr/share/lyx/... /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/lyx Some tex-classes, which are corresponding to the lyx-layouts are installed in /usr/share/lyx/tex/ AND /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/lyx. I don't found any hint in the lyxrc-file which directory is the right one. My LyX-version 1.1.4pre1 chooses the .../latex/lyx directory, so I suggest that the /usr/share/lyx/tex - directory is obsolete. Am I right?? LyX crash
hi, please have a look at the atachement demo.lyx . open all floats and go to a blank line between a flaot and the beginning of a new section or subsection (for example 2.1 or 4. or 4.2), than press enter and lyx crashes. if you close all floats and do the same all works well, because the "blank line" exists only if the floats are opened. whats's happened? herbert -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.perce.de

document class ams-article does this automatically. class article
not, so you have to insert a LaTeX-command
\addcontentsline{toc}{section}{References}(in TeX -red)
instead of section, subsection and so on are possible too.

insert a newpage-option, when the source-code of the program-
listing is more than one page?
in latex preamble there is \usepackage{listings}
and in the text there is \lstset - command

it's just a little bit tricky, but have a look at the atached LyX-file.
the only problem is to center the tables, you have to try some values
for the minipage size.

equations in a line:
in tex (red): \fbox{$ f(x)=3 $}
it's also possible to insert the equation via LyX Alt m-m instead
of $ f(x)=3 $.
equations as displaymath:
in tex(red): \begin{equation}\fbox{$ \displaystyle f(x)=3
$}\end{equation}
gives a numbered formula f(x)=3 with a frame.
I dont't know if thewre might be a better LyX-solution.

it's the same to me.
when I write the text in the formula with Alt-m m (for text in
mathmode),
saving the file and reread it, everything works well, because there is
no space between \textrm and {.

in latex preamble there must be \input{ueur.fd}
because the amslatex uses lower letters for the fonts.

cut and paste tables
1. lyx creates tables with the following parameters \added_space_top 0.3cm \added_space_bottom 0.3cm \align center \LyXTable ... i dont't know why, but i got some tables with \align center \LyXTable ... is it possible to change these parameters within lyx, or have i to patch the sourcefile ... ;-) 2. sometimes i move tables from a floating environment to a nonfloating one. it's just a little bit complicated to cut and paste the table. from my point of view it's a good idea to delete the table from lyx (double mouseclick from table menu) in a buffer so that I can paste the deleted table. some times ago we had the same discussion. have a look at
the sample file. in latex preamlble you find all definitions.

if your bibtex-file is ok, than:
in latex: \cite{key1,key2,...} just like: \cite{deitel:99,doberanz:96}
deitel:99 and doberanz:96 are the bibtex keys. if your keys are 1, 2, ..
than \cite{1,2}
with LyX Insert->citation-> choose the first bibtex entry from the
list
and add the next manually:
"deitel:99" from list and than "doberanz:96" from keyborad. alle entrys
must separated by comma.

for the introduction use the chapter* style or any other one, wich does

have a look at the sample file, there are three tables:
1. floating
2. nonfloating
3. floating
the nonfloating one is countered by the same table-counter.
but pay attention, if you delete the h(ere)-option in
layout->document->float placement
latex put the two floating tables before the nonfloating one
and therefore countig is incorrect.

14cm is the width of the box, choose any value you like or

from my point of view it's only possible with the global
setting of tocdepth to 2 and than with the latex command
\addcontentsline{subsubsection}{any text ...}
behind any subsubsection-line for the chapters, which
have more than subsection-depth

I can't work wirh 1.1.4fix2 and fix3, too. Here comes an example,
which works fine with 1.1.4.fix1 and older ...
it needs some packages, look at preamble or delete the pspicture
in floating figure.

i could correct all of the new error messages of 1.1.4fix3,
which doesn't appered in 1.1.4fix1 or older:
1. problems, when tex-code and latex-paragraph combined,
like first line in tex, next line latex-paragraph. all
appears in red
2. \footnotemark with a following \footnotetext{..} outside
does not work in caption of floating objects (in cells of
tables it's ok). i did it with \footnote{...}.
3. same with \footnotemark for parameters for functions, like
\lst{parameter1}{parameter2\footnotemark}. \footnote{..}
did it too.
4. wrong mathmode in pspicture-environment:
\rput{\mathbf{$...}$}. correct is \rput{$$}

it's better to work with bibtex-files, than latex automatically
finds out the right order!
1. mark all bibliography-lines and choose standard-layout and
than bibliography again. now the order is right and you see
1-2-3 in your citation window.
2. correct the first [2]-citation. choose [3] and than [2]
again.
now all should work

from my point of view it's not possible with array, because latex
handles an array just as a vertical box. why do you prefer the
array-environment, because eqnarray is for very long arrays better
than arrays.

bibtex-file
i had an error in my bib-file, which lyx (latex) reported well. I corrected this in my bib-file and run lyx-show-dvi again. the same error ... i had to close and reopend the file again, than all works well. from my point of view it's lyx forget to run bibtex again! it's easy to reproduce this error: - choose any bibtex-file and give a title-entry a "&" (without \) - insert in lyx-file bibtex-reference - run lyx-showDVI - correct the bibtexentry to ... \& ... - run lyx-showDVI again happy easter to all of you :-) Herbert
