I do not find anything about this in the template I use. I guess they
are defined in the book.class?

The ERT also supresses also that the ToC is shown at all. I guess
there's a reason why it is called evil.

That would be very nice. For a newby like me, it would be nice if it
would be a bit easier to distinguish between LaTeX- and LyX - issues.

Thanks for the clarification. I have no clue about LaTeX as I have
started using LyX. From my perspective it is indistinguishable if I
have a LaTeX-issue or an LyX-issue.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've tried just that. The only issue is
that this does not give me a PDF-bookmarked ToC, but I will figure out
how to do that later.

This does not work. I have experimented a bit. The command given above
yields a "LaTeX Error: \contents undefinded" if I try to compile the
document.
I'm unable to overcome that issue. Even using
"renewcommand\tableofcontens" does not work, this yields just an empty
site instead of a ToC.
Conclusion: I do now not enough about LaTeX to mess around with this.

I've tried that. I'm not able to figure out what all these commands
mean. Is there a list somewhere? Or some sort of introduction?

Sorry, yes, I meant page. I figure that is part of the
Thesis-template, if I learn enough about LaTeX to change that this
will be a chinch.

I figure I will have to learn a lot about LaTeX. A quick search

Need Help Using LyX
Hi there! I need some assistance using LyX. I want to make a list of pictures. Each of this pictures has either a chapter number (1) or a section number (1.1). I chose the thesis-template shiped with LyX to achieve this, mainly because it provides chapters, sections and a table of contents. It looks mostly okay, but I still need to change the following things, listed in no particular order: 1) The table of contents should not have a title (i.e. "Table of contents") 2) The font of all entries in the table of contents should be identical. At the moment, the chapter- and the section titles have different font families in the table of content, and changing it manually only changes the chapter-titles in the ToC, not the section-titles. 3) The font of te chapter numbers should also be identical, i.e. 12p and non-fat. 4) The site with the ToC should have no page number. Currently it is labeled "i". 5) There shouldnt be any page breaks, neither after the Toc nor before chapters. I guess, everything in this list is fairly easy to achieve. Unfortunately, I do not even now were I should start reading to learn how to do this. I would be most gratefull if someone could explain how to solve my problems, and point me in the right direction of a manual. Thanks in advance! Ph.

This is plural, while it should be singular, i.e. "Ihr Zeichen, Ihre Nachricht von" and "Mein Zeichen, meine Nachricht von". Also, the Layout "Writer" should read "Sachbearbeiter" and not "Bearbeiter". How can I change that? Is this a bug in the template, or something on my end? I'm running LyX 2.0.6 on Debian Sid. I've got not much to complain - quite the opposite. LyX spared me a lot of hassle. More robustness against errors would nonetheless further enhance my enjoyment of LyX. Yes, sometimes the PDF would be "the wrong one". But imagine this case: My thesis had 4 chapters, and was made up from 6 documents (Master document+Appendix where 5. and 6.). Out of some reasons, the 4th chapter wouldn't compile alone, but ended with some or the other error message. If I tried to compile the master document, everything looked fine. Probably, with some work, I would've been able to repair the 4th chapter, so it would've compile alone. I didn't do that, because the time was pressing, but opened the master every time I worked at the 4th chapter and compiled that. It was a hassle. Yes, it is better to repair bugs instead of glossing them over, but I don't want to be forced to do that. Give the LyX-users the credit to know when they have to repair things, and when it's okay to gloss over them. (In my case, the error came from some wrongly put labels/cross references, I think. All I wanted to do was checking of my pictures looked right. For that, "the wrong pdf" would've been completely sufficient.) Greetings! Ph.

Hi! It looks like the OP is using Debian/unstable or Debian/testing. This is "work in progress" and there was a re-structuring of the language support packages. So I would consider the problem one of the "rough edges" of the unstable branch, not a Debian bug. The original poster is running a Debian stable/unstable-mix. I guess that is the reason for some of the problems. Wolfgang, is there any reason why you don't want to run pure Debian/testing or unstable installation? Debian/stable is intended for systems like servers (or the laptops on the ISS) where absolute stability is crucial. If one wants/has to use up-to-date software on Debian/stable, the installation process is very prone to errors. This is the reason I switched from Ubuntu to Debian testing. Ubuntu is based on a more or less dated snapshot of Debian/testing. I spent a week trying to install a piece of new software which had a very old version in the Ubuntu repositories. In the end it was a choice between gnawing of one of my feet in frustration or trying to install Debian/testing. I never had to regret that. Debian/unstable is still incredibly stable, and Debian/testing is even more so. You seem to be tech-savy, able to read and follow instructions and not afraid to ask questions. This more than qualifies you to run it. Additionally, Debian/testing would lead to much less problems. If I select this for installation, synaptic is going to remove a lot of texlive and other stuff, which I hesitate to do. To the actual problem: My guess is a version mixup between the Stable/unstable packages. You can try this: sudo apt-get -t unstable install texlive-lang-all , telling your Debian it shall install the newer packages specifically. There has to be a way to do that in synaptic directly, but I don't know it. Also, you can install the needed language packs specifically, texlife-lang-all is 850 Mb large. The texlive you've installed is the newer version, a dependency of Lyx 2.0.6. Texlive 2012 and 2013 are mutually exclusive packages. For my own problem: In this case, manually removing ngerman (or, if the references are part of the document, not included via BibTeX, changing the language to English) may be a last resort. The text in question is written in English, and I'm not aware of any German reference in it. I've sent the text to a friend to read it, and she opened it in a German LyX-installation. Maybe the line was added at this point, I haven`t exported this particular file to PDF in a while. Greetings! Ph.

Hi! more serious: if I try to export a pdf output from my document, I get ! Package babel Error: Unknow option `ngerman'. Either you misspelled it (babel)or the language definition file ngerman.ldf was not found. and no output. I use lyx 2.0.6-1+b1 and texlive 2013 under DebianI had the same error while compiling documents, I solved it by manually deleting all lines from the document in question which contained "/ngerman". (By opening them in a text editor and using the search feature) This worked like a charm.This can be due to sheer luck, it is possible that this opens a can of worms in other documents.I advice to make backups before editing the source document manually.(By the way, just commenting it out by adding a # to the beginning of the line in question did not work.)If you want to install more packages instead try either "texlive-lang-german" or "texlive-lang-all".Hope this helped,Ph.

After my first shock I very glad that you managed to fix it, I would have had a quite guilty conscience if I'd managed to break your operating system remotely and then going of for a prolonged absence.As far as I know the gnome-dependencies installed with Lyx stem from the recommended installation of evince, which is the standard-PDF-reader under gnome, therefore using gnome-dependencies.This can be avoided by using the -r suffix to apt-get install.I'm writing this response to the list because I've struggled with that myself - why the rec for evince in the Debian package?I really would prefer no recommendation for a PDF-viewer, assuming that every user who uses Lyx has the PDF-viewer of his choice already installed. I have gone into the recovery mode and checked various things. Starting the PC again brought me back to x windows screen. Synaptics told me there are defect packages which were repaired. Afterward I was able to install the 2.0.6 lyx. I guess, what happens was that in sudo synaptic update I might not have waited long enough ... Lambda not shown
Hello! Lowercase-lambdas are not shown in my Lyx-documents. Uppercase Deltas are shown. The Preset I use is thesis (chapter-1 or chapter-2, does not matter). I activated "Non-Tex-Fonts" in the Document-Options. If I don't do that, deltas aren't shown, either. I use LuaTex. A minimal example is attached. I hope I provided all necessary information. Hi! Thanks for your answer! I've tried every setting on the subtext menu you write about, to no avail. "Here definitely" leads to a behavior of my graphics that is very depend of linebreaks above it, nearly WYSIWYG-like. What I really want is a method to make a graphic bound to a certain paragraph, favorably with some lines of text above it. Is this possible? If yes, which manual should I start to read? Unfortunately I've no experience with LaTeX-code, and it seems a bit overwhelming with no outside help. Greetings and thanks in advance! Ph. Hello there! I'm new to this list, and more or less new to Lyx. At the moment I'm writing my diploma thesis with Lyx. I hope the question I'm about to ask hasn't been asked dozens of times, for I found nothing helpful in the archives. There are a lot of pictures in my thesis. It is important that they are printed in the correct subparagraph. Lyx, however, doesn't place them in the subparagraphs but somewhere later in the text. Is there a possibility to force "bind to this (sub)paragraph" somewhere I haven't searched? Thanks in advance! Ph.
