Re: .ps from Mac in LyX

1999-09-02 Thread Bill Simpson

Thanks Kayvan for the info on the Bounding Box.
I tried setting it manually and still LyX and dvi choked on it.

Thanks J-P for your suggestions. I used your method to get the BB using
ghostview. I still had problems. I tried converting the file from ps to
eps using ps2epsi. No luck.

At this point I am thinking of converting the file from ps to eps on the
Mac, then transferring that file over.

These ps files on the Mac were created using the print dialogue, which
allows you to print to a .ps file. Perhaps it just creates weird output.
Maybe a newer sys version would help.

.ps from Mac in LyX

1999-09-01 Thread Bill Simpson

I have several .ps files created by a Mac that I want to include in a LyX
document. I attach one.

I ftped them over as binary, then converted
tr "\r" "\n" fig1.ps fig1.ps.new
to get rid of the weird mac end-of-lines.

The files look OK in ghostview. HOWEVER they just create a string of
errors if I try to include them in a LyX document. Does anyone have any
guesses what is wrong and how to fix?

My guess is that the problem has to do with the line:
%%BoundingBox: ? ? ? ?
But I don't know how to fix it.

Thanks very much for any help.

Not too sure about it as you don't say which system you are using for LyX
but I guess it is Unix/Linux. If so, I suspect it is due to the different
format that Mac and Unix use for text files like PS files. I guess you
need to convert them to Unix format. If you have already done this, then
try to look at the files in a text editor. In my experience transferring
MAC RTF files to Unix systems frequently adds extraneous garbage at the
beginning and end. You may have the same problem, if your file format is
ok.

Fingers faster than the eye! G Sorry 'bout that.

Looked at you included file (also did not see that!) and front and end of
file seem ok to me. So my suspicion is not founded, Not enough of a PS
guru to be able to say anything about your bounding box idea. I suppose
you could comment it out and try it or just put in some generic numbers to
see what happens. Hopefully someone else can provide more info. Again
sorry for being too quick onthe trigger with my first post.

Ghostview gives you the BB (the crosshairs give the position
of the point in the figure in pixels) you may paste it
(I never remember the order of the 4 coordinates).

A quicker hack would be to filter the file through a ps to
eps converter, which should recalculate the BB.

By the way, a better tool to convert from PC/Mac to Unix
is to use zip: Unix unzip has an option to deal correctly with these
#$^% EOL and EOFs.

It's not possible to import .ps-files in textmode. You must convert
these files to ascii (ps2ascii). Insert as an grafik-file is possible,
but I think, this is not what you want.
