The installers on lyx.org (ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/contrib/aspell6-windows/) do allow to choose to install just for the current user. I went ahead and tried this and now I get a different error when spellchecking in lyx 1.5.b2: (translated German) The spellchecking Program could not be started. The file C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\CURRENT_USER\Anwendungsdaten\Aspell\Data\iso-8859-1.cset can not be opened for reading. This is no surprise, as the folder Data does not exist there. However I finally did manage to get spellchecking to work by copying the folder C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users.WINDOWS\Anwendungsdaten\Aspell\Dictionaries which contained iso-8859-1.cset to C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\CURRENT_USER\Anwendungsdaten\Aspell\ and renaming it to Data. So at least on my machine it does not seem possible to get a running Lyx 1.5.0. beta2 out of the box by just using the provided installer from lyx.org on a clean winxp system (by clean I mean a system which has had lyx 1.4.4. installed and working but everything related to lyx1.4.4/miktex/aspell/imagemagic/gsview etc. was uninstalled prior to the 1.5.b2 installation). The miktex problem is still hazy to me, because it was downloaded and installed during the lyx installation but lyx somehow did not seem to realize it has happened, because After finishing the miktexinstallation and returning to the lyx installer, the lyxinstaller says that miktex was not installed properly. The other (aspell) problem is actually two problems: during installation the dictionaries can not be downloaded by the installer (404 error). This might be due to a wrong url in the lyxinstaller. When installing aspell6 dictionaries manually afterwards, the other problem occurs (see above), which probably is caused by lyx expecting different paths then aspell actually resides in. PS. Just for curiosity, what are the philosophies behind the two different windows installers (the one found on the lyx.org ftp and the one from berlios)

MiKTeX and Aspell Problems in Lyx 1.5.0 beta2 windows installer
First of all thank you for this beta number two, because I was able to get Lyx 1.5. to work (which I couldn't do with beta1 on my transmeta crusoe notebook running winxp - see previous post for details) I tried the through the net binary and the bundle binary provided on lyx.org on an empty system (no MiKTeX etc.) Two problems occurred however: 1. During the installation MiKTeX was downloaded and installed BUT the Lyx installer said that it was not installed correctly and if I wanted to try again. Trying again resulted in an error saying the MiKTeX folder was not empty. If I continue the installation (ignoring the error), this resulted in problems when I try to open my lyx files. So what I think is, that Lyx somehow does not know of miktex, even though it is there (I even updated miktex and did a reconfigure of lyx, but the problem still persisted) I was able to resolve the problem by using the installer provided by berlios. (however after installing with this installer I did not like the console window which seemed to slow down my lyx, so I reinstalled lyx with the lyx.org installer, which resulted in lyx working properly without console but with miktex functioning...) 2. The second problem is that the installer was not able to download the aspell dictionaries selected (en + de) resulting in the lyx spellchecking not to work. I tried to install the corresponding aspell6 dictionaries found on the lyx.org wiki manually, but lyx still couldn't find the dictionaries. Can anyone help, especially with the aspell problem? Thanks a lot. sk

Re: more paste problems in Lyx 1.5.0 beta 1
Hello, With opensuse 10.2 and kde 3.5 I have another paste problem. 1) I took (with ctrl + x) a word for move it. Then I put it (with ctrl + v) in other site. Then I think that I put word in wrong site. Then I delete this word with baskspace key. I put cursor in other site, press ctrl + v and nothing appears. When I press backspace key, buffer with word was deleted. Works here. 2) I confirmed previous paste problem. In a window I took (with crtl + c) an ERT (with a \setcounter command). Click in another window. I put cursor in a title of chapter. I press ctrl + v. ERT appears correctly. With mouse wheel I put cursor at the end of another title of section or chapter and I press ctrl + v. Appears a title of section instead ERT. This works here too. I confirmed this two errors. Others applications work without problems: Lyx 1.4.4, Lyx 1.3.7, etc. Regards Marcelo __ Preguntá. Respondé. Descubrí. Todo lo que querías saber, y lo que ni imaginabas, está en Yahoo! Regards Marcelo __ Preguntá. Respondé. Descubrí. Todo lo que querías saber, y lo que ni imaginabas, está en Yahoo! Problems with LyX 1.5.0
Dear List, just wanted to post some problems i had with LyX 1.5.0 beta. Here are the facts: -OS: Win XP 32-bit -installed LyX with LyXWininstaller LyXWin150beta1Small-3-09 -latest MikTeX Version 2.5 When i start LyX not only LyX opens, but also a DOS-Window, which stays there. It says: Lyx: Disabling LyX socket. Then i tried to open a document (my thesis with some images). The problem here was the PDF-Export (via PDFLaTeX) which produces a runtime error in LyX.exe. You can find the whole Error-Message here as a .gif: http://www4.turboshare.de/v/6428267/lyx_error1.gif.html Then i opened the document de_FAQ.lyx, which causes LyX to crash by simply scolling down the document. In the DOS Window it says QFontEngineWin: GetTextMetrics failed and lyx: SIGSEGV signal caught. The whole Error-Message is here: http://www4.turboshare.de/v/83985/lyx_error2.gif.html Maybe someone can help with this or it is useful for further development. By the way: LyX 1.5 (with the new features) looks great and i am really looking forward to work with it! Thanks a lot! Dom

When i start LyX not only LyX opens, but also a DOS-Window, which stays there. It says: Lyx: Disabling LyX socket. There is another official windows installer that does not have this problem. The two installers will be merged when 1.5.0 is released. Bo
