Looks to me like these two are the source of the problems. yes and no, because the bibliography is wrong, but should have some entries. It is only a warning not an error. Yes, changing the citation style from `Biblatex' to `Biblatex (natbib mode)' allowed the bibliography to be included in the PDF. Why only with non-accented characters remains unanswered, but I doubt the expected audience for this doc will notice any difference.
