Re: spelling in Lyx 1.4.3-5
The problem has been solved by realizing with Joost's help that the Dictionary path in the registry points to C:\aspell\lib\aspell-0.60 rather than C:\aspell\Dictionary where the dictionaries get placed. I did not want to change the registry, so I simply copied files from C:\aspell\Dictionary to C:\aspell\lib\aspell-0.60 and spellchecker started working. I hope this helps people experiencing similar problem with the aspell. Thank you Leo LB wrote: It did not work when running lyxc from DOS command prompt. If not, do you have Documents->Settings->Language set to English, and do you have Tools->Languages->Spellchecker->Alternative language: set to en_US? /Paul

Re: spelling in Lyx 1.4.3-5
Odd; the upgrade to 1.4.3-5, while creating some nuisance problems for me, did not break the spellchecker. Out of curiosity, if you open a DOS window in the LyX bin directory and start it by running lyxc.exe, does the spellchecker work? (It shouldn't make any difference; but then the problem should not be happening.) /Paul It did not work when running lyxc from DOS command prompt. Interestingly, spellchecker worked in lyx1.4.3-4 but stopped working as soon as I installed lyx1.4.3-5. Since nobody else mentions this problem with aspell, I assume it has something to do with my setup. Is there a way of seeing what Lyx is doing when the spellchecker is called? Re: spelling
What hyphenation package are you using? The most recent one is nehyph96.tex (on my system located in /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/hyphen/), look on your favorite CTAN site. Another pretty good one is nehyph.tex but it's older. Stay away from the older hyphenation patterns (nehyphx.tex, nehyph1.tex,...). dutch should also be installed in your language.dat (look for a line with dutch, this should read dutch nehyph96.tex =dutch ). Normally texconfig should do this for you and run texconfig init to update your configuration (I had to do this manually though). Otherwise you might try to use the nohyphenation 'language' instead of dutch. HTH, Eric PS: moet het eigenlijk geen bruine dwergen zijn ipv bruineN dwergen? Het klinkt nu oud-nederlands ;-). First you can try to enable hyphenation for the Dutch language by running texconfig. If this doesn't work, you can disable hyphenation by putting \hyphenpenalty = 1 in the preamble.

As for the other suggestions, I guess it could be any of these. But I wouldn't know where to start looking to see if a package or latex itself was damaged. Can you expand a little? All I know is that the root directory is /usr/share/teTex but further down the tree I'm a little out of my depth. thanks, David.

Then enter command: find . -name "*" | xargs grep Fogure this should list all files that have the spelling error. Now just load the erroneus file into your text editor, and search-and-replace all Fogures. Note that the file with spelling error may be in your LaTeX distribution files, often somewhere at /usr/local/tetex or something.
