2 questions: table import and Figure organization
I had a swell time using Lyx to work on this document in RedHat linux with Lyx 1.1.6fix4: http://lark.cc.ukans.edu/~pauljohn/ResearchPapers/activists.pdf 2 problems came up I was not able to solve. My coauthor used a text editor to prepare some tabulars in LaTeX (I think he used WinEdt). The tabulars were OK on his end, but when I used reLyx to import the file, they got "bashed" by 1 column for each row. Where it should have been: a b c d e f g h i j k l m o p it came out a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p Have you seen it? The other question concerns giant monstrous figures. We collected a whole bunch of little screen shots and want to show them in a table that is 6x3. On a single page, we can fit a 3x3, and so the last ones have to go on a second page. I did this by creating a figure float, and then putting a tabular inside it, and filling the elements with pictures. If I put all the snaps in a single figure, then just run off the page, so I split them between two figure floats. You can see the example in my document referred to above on page 14-15. Lyx numbers the Figures as 5 and 6 and I made the title on 6 reflect it is a continuation, but I kinda wished that figure was numbered 5b and the first one was 5a. I don't have any publication precedent for this kind of thing, I'm happy to do whatever you guys recommend as standard. -- Paul E. Try to place the cursor immediately before the table, and press Shift-CursorRight. This marks the whole table, at least in 1.1.6pre3. Cut and paste as usual. If this does not work, move the cursor to the first character after the table while keeping Shift pressed. Andre' -- André Pönitz [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If I select a table with the mouse, then do a Ctr-c and Ctrl-v somewhere in the document, the "frames" of the initial table aren't copied, I get only the inner text, each "cell" separated by the little red arrow of new-line. A solution seems to be inserting a new table with the same number of cells/rows, and then past in it the copied text of the previous. But is it a simplier way of dong it ? RE: Table-Import
Hi! A few days ago I had some trouble importing tables from Excel to LyX. Thanks to the help from the list, I sovled my problem. Exporting to ascii from Excel and importing as ascii\lines is a simple, fast and powerful way the get the tables into the document. So I got my numerous tables imported. Now I tried to let the text flow around the smaller ones. Unfortunately, even the manual--author says, that he didn't made it work. Has someone done this so far? Regards, Chris

Re: Table-Import
Hello, can you give a bit more information about the errors? Can you produce a dvi with latex directly? Maybe you can simplify your tables? grettings jan On Sat, 06 Jan 2001, Chris Schulbert wrote: > Hi! > > I have quite a lot of MS-Excel (sorry!) tables to import into my > LyX--Document. > There is a litle macro excel2latex which saves the current selction to a > .tex--file. Table-Import
Hi! I have quite a lot of MS-Excel (sorry!) tables to import into my LyX--Document. There is a litle macro excel2latex which saves the current selction to a .tex--file. But LyX 1.1.5f2 (SuSE7 on Intel) or maybe the laTeX has some problmes with that files. Because reLyX has some problems with tables (as noted in the man-pages), I have to \input the .tex--files. But in most cases, I get 75+ errors during the latex--run. What can I do, besides hacking all the tables once again into the document? I think, the tex.--files from excel2latex are pretty fine. Unfortunately I can't get reLyX to produce .lyx--files from my tables. That would be the best way, because I could modify the tables in LyX then. Is there a solution? Best wishes, Chris

On 14-Oct-99 Jim Cadien wrote: Query: > > After looking through the docs, I ask: can one create a blank table(mxn) > and then import an ascii file containing data in the same format into the > Lyx table? > Answer: Yes you can do this. Your ascii-file should be a tab-separated-value file (this means have a tab between cells and CR between rows). Then you just have to create a table which is as large as the file you want to input. After this go into the first cell of the table (or in that cell where you want start the import) and use Inser->Import Ascii File->As Lines Hope this helps! ascii table import
After looking through the docs, I ask: can one create a blank table(mxn) and then import an ascii file containing data in the same format into the Lyx table? Thanks Jim Cadien
