Personal Dictionary not working
Hi! I am using LyX 1.4.3-4 on Windows XP. I used Uwe's installer for the installation. I am not able to use the personal dictionary with Aspell. Words that I add while spellchecking are not recognized next time I run the spellcheker. In preferences, I have set a certain personal dictionary file, to force LyX to use it, but the result is the same. The words are not added to the file. Interestingly, the personal dictionary functionality works in LyX 1.4.2 (which I also have installed). More interestingly, LyX 1.4.2 does not use the personal dictionary file specified in Prefenrences. It rather uses the file that have been automatically created within the LyX 1.4.2's bin directory (OBS! no Aspell files are created in LyX 1.4.3's bin directory). Is the problem with the personal dictionary specific to LyX 1.4.3-4? Is it a problem with Uwe's installer? I really need the personal dictionary functionality, so I would appreciate any help to make it work? Thanks! Cheers, Nicolás

The problem is that the actual aspell version prevents the *.pws-files to be written. thanks and regards Uwe

Persistent changes to the Spellchecker's dictionary
Hi! What can I do to make the changes (i.e. addition of words) to the spellchecker's dictionary persistent? While I am using the spellchecker and I add a new word to the dictionary, that word is recognized during the rest of the checking process. However, if I close and open again the spellchecker, the word that I added is no longer recognized (i.e. has not been saved into the dictionary). Cheers, Nicolás

[LyX 1.4.2/Win XP] Aspell using wrong personal dictionary
In LyX 1.4.2, adding words during a spell check puts them in a new personal dictionary in the document source folder. With previous versions, the new words were added to a global personal dictionary in the Aspell installation folder. I much prefer the latter behavior, since it does not require me to add the same word over and over. Is there any way to restore this behavior with LyX 1.4.2? TIA, Paul

Aspell New Dictionary test and Windows LyX
The reason I am sending this to the User list is that the developer (Marc) server seems to be down again and there is some news of relevance to WinLyx users. Dear all I am trying to use the spellchecker aspell for portuguese(br). The spellchecker runs fine, but the dictionary is awful, it does not recognize almost any word, even the ones that are very common in the Portuguese language. Which spellchecker dictionary?
Hi all I'm still making progress with the 1.3.2 win32-qt port of lyx. However, I'm not quite there yet with the spell checker. I have downloaded and installed the lyx_aspell_dict_en.rar aspell dictionary linked on the win32-qt port page. Hitting F7 brings up the spell checker. The spell checker doesn't appear to comment on either spelling of words like color/colour so I'm not sure whether the dictionary I am using is the US, UK or Canadian dictionary. I'd prefer British. I have tried setting edit-preferences-language settings-spell checker-Alternative language to en_GB, but this doesn't appear to have made any difference - everything still works as before. Do I need to fiddle with the aspell files themselves? guy
I don't know much of Latex or Lyx, and I want to type pronunciation symbols in computer. For example, I want to type: he[hi], they[th's_symbol ei], thick[th's_pronunciation_symbol shorter_i k] . Can lyx do it? ** Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed. -- BookerT.Washington $Penguin=break the Window!!; **

Yes, the tipa package will let you input International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) characters. Search CTAN for tipa to get the package and the documentation. ispell dictionary
I would like to employ enother dictionary (british english) with LyX. I have created the hash-file using buildhash. However, I do not have access to the directory where the dictionary are installed in ispell. Normally, I use the -d option for this job. How can I convince LyX to use this dictionary. Thanks, Torsten
