There is a bug in the aspell.dll delivered with newer LyX1.4.3 builds
for Windows.
To fix the bug, replace the file aspell.dll in LyX's installation
folder by this one:

http://prdownload.berlios.de/lyxwininstall/aspell.dll

I also updated the installer to Version 2.9 where the fix is included:
https://developer.berlios.de/project/shownotes.php?release_id=11852

Uwe,

Thanks for the fix! One small problem remains: when I made the change,
my personal dictionary ended up in C:\Aspell\Personal\ despite the path
I gave LyX in Tools - Preferences... - Language settings -
Spellchecker - Perosnal dictionary (C:\Documents and Settings\what a
handome guy I am\Application Data\Aspell\en.pws).

For me the *.pws files are created in C:\Documents and Settings. It seems that you have already an older Aspell installed because the ones
that come with the last installers are by default installed in C:\Documents and Settings. C:\Aspell was the install directory of former Aspell
versions.

Personal Dictionary not working

2006-12-12 Thread Nicolás

Hi!

I am using LyX 1.4.3-4 on Windows XP. I used Uwe's installer for the
installation.
I am not able to use the personal dictionary with Aspell. Words that I
add while spellchecking are not recognized next time I run the
spellcheker. In preferences, I have set a certain personal dictionary
file, to force LyX to use it, but the result is the same. The words are
not added to the file.

Interestingly, the personal dictionary functionality works in LyX 1.4.2
(which I also have installed). More interestingly, LyX 1.4.2 does not
use the personal dictionary file specified in Prefenrences. It rather
uses the file that have been automatically created within the LyX
1.4.2's bin directory (OBS! no Aspell files are created in LyX 1.4.3's
bin directory).

Is the problem with the personal dictionary specific to LyX 1.4.3-4? Is
it a problem with Uwe's installer?

I really need the personal dictionary functionality, so I would
appreciate any help to make it work? Thanks!

Cheers,
Nicolás

No this is a general problem and also in the official installer.

@Joost: Could you please have a look at the new aspell version you deliver since LyX 1.4.3-5? The problem is that the actual aspell version
prevents the *.pws-files to be written.

Persistent changes to the Spellchecker's dictionary

2006-12-08 Thread Nicolás

Hi!

What can I do to make the changes (i.e. addition of words) to the
spellchecker's dictionary persistent?
While I am using the spellchecker and I add a new word to the
dictionary, that word is recognized during the rest of the checking
process. However, if I close and open again the spellchecker, the word
that I added is no longer recognized (i.e. has not been saved into the
dictionary).

Nicolás

[LyX 1.4.2/Win XP] Aspell using wrong personal dictionary

2006-09-05 Thread Paul A. Rubin
In LyX 1.4.2, adding words during a spell check puts them in a new
personal dictionary in the document source folder. With previous
versions, the new words were added to a global personal dictionary in
the Aspell installation folder. I much prefer the latter behavior,
since it does not require me to add the same word over and over. Is
there any way to restore this behavior with LyX 1.4.2?

TIA,
Paul

During the installation of LyX1.4.2 (Wiki) on Windows XP, I get the

Failed to download the English spell checker dictionary. Would you like to

retry doesn't work as well.
When trying to run spell checker I am getting the message: Spellchecker
could not be started. No word list can be found for the language en_US.

I took the liberty to answer to lyx-users, lyx-announce does not seem
appropriate here.

I have the same problem (maybe the download site changed and the installer is
not up to date ?).
Anyway you may download the dictionaries from here
http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Aspell6
and install manually.

I have Aspell installed in C:\Aspell. LyX1.4.1 works with no problems.

This is suprising, as lyx-1.4.1 and lyx-1.4.2 sould share the same Aspell6
dictionaries ?

That was my thought too, but I had LyX 1.4.1 working with both English

spell-check German on my laptop and would not even spell-check English

Aspell New Dictionary test and Windows LyX

2006-03-17 Thread Stephen Harris

The reason I am sending this to the User list is that
the developer (Marc) server seems to be down again
and there is some news of relevance to WinLyx users.

The new Aspell dictionaries and data installer which
works great if you follow the default is just about ready.

Angus Leeming wrote:

Ok, Joost, Stephen. Please check out
http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Aspell6
where you'll find the new version of
all files. At least, I assume you will in
about 1 hour. Files are currently uploading.

If you can confirm that all is well with
these, then I'll move on to LyX itself.

Angus

---

SH: Original message to developer list:

Everything seems to work. I started with a clean C:\aspell
and installed the new Aspell data files first, as customary.

The *.cmap/cset etc. were installed to C:\Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60
as I think they are supposed to be. But the default on the installer
reads C:\Aspell. Should this default read C:\Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60
like the default for the dictionary install? It doesn't work to change
the default data install to C:\Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60 because an extra
\lib gets inserted, so a user needs to keep the default of C:\Aspell.

the bottom line is use the default, whatever it is,

the default data install to C:\Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60 because an extra
\lib gets inserted, so a user needs to keep the default of C:\Aspell.

the bottom line is use the default, whatever it is,

Aspell New Dictionary test and Windows LyX

2006-03-17 Thread Stephen Harris

The reason I am sending this to the User list is that
the developer (Marc) server seems to be down again
and there is some news of relevance to WinLyx users.

The new Aspell dictionaries and data installer which
works great if you follow the default is just about ready.

Angus Leeming wrote:

Ok, Joost, Stephen. Please check out
http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Aspell6
where you'll find the new version of
all files. At least, I assume you will in
about 1 hour. Files are currently uploading.

If you can confirm that all is well with
these, then I'll move on to LyX itself.

Regards,
Angus

SH: Original message to developer list:

Everything seems to work. I started with a clean C:\aspell
and installed the new Aspell data files first, as customary.

The *.cmap/cset etc. were installed to C:\Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60
as I think they are supposed to be. But the default on the installer
reads C:\Aspell. Should this default read C:\Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60
like the default for the dictionary install? It doesn't work to change
the default data install to C:\Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60 because an extra

aspell dictionary

2004-04-16 Thread Beny Spira
Dear all
I am trying to use the spellchecker aspell for portuguese(br). The
spellchecker runs fine, but the dictionary is awful, it does not
recognize almost any word, even the ones that are very common in the
Portuguese language. The version of the dictionary is the most recent
one (aspell-br-0.50.2). Is there a better aspell dictionary to use?

Which spellchecker dictionary?

2003-10-13 Thread Guy Hindell
Hi all

I'm still making progress with the 1.3.2 win32-qt port of lyx. However, I'm
not quite there yet with the spell checker.

I have downloaded and installed the lyx_aspell_dict_en.rar aspell dictionary
linked on the win32-qt port page. Hitting F7 brings up the spell checker.
The spell checker doesn't appear to comment on either spelling of words like
color/colour so I'm not sure whether the dictionary I am using is the US, UK
or Canadian dictionary. I'd prefer British.

I have tried setting edit-preferences-language settings-spell
checker-Alternative language to en_GB, but this doesn't appear to have made
any difference - everything still works as before. Do I need to fiddle with
the aspell files themselves?

they[th's_symbol ei], thick[th's_pronunciation_symbol shorter_i k] . Can lyx
do it?

Yes, the tipa package will let you input International Phonetic Alphabet
(IPA) characters. Search CTAN for tipa to get the package and the
documentation. (You'll need to use Evil Red Text, but it's really simple.)
