I left my Model-100 plugged in to an original Tandy transformer/power supply,
it got a bit warm, so I said... Hum..
What happens if I unplug the transformer - it will probably go cold, as there
is nothing to complete the circuit.
I was surprised, the little bugger actually got warmer, not being plugged into
the Model-100. I've determined, I need to build it a little pig tail with an
on/off rocker switch on the AC side of the circuit.

[M100] Star Blaze 100

2021-01-03 Thread dano none

At the Club100 site, I found Star Blaze 100, apparently the only game Tandy
every sold for the Model 100.

See:
http://www.club100.org/memfiles/index.php?&direction=0&order=&directory=Gary%20Weber

I was able to use Virtual-T and follow the installation procedure in the
manual, and everything loaded correctly.

Now, the odd thing is, I find the game play to be virtually impossible. Not
sure if that's the way it runs on real hardware or not.

If someone has Star Blaze Loaded on a real M100, can they try it on Virtual-T
and let me know if the game play is different?

Thanks,
Dan

Does anyone have a copy of this software they are willing to share?

Off and On, for a couple of months, I've been looking for a copy on Ebay.
I've not seen one come up, and it seems to be the only game for the 100, that
Radio Shack ever sold.

Thanks,

[M100] WP-2

2020-10-10 Thread dano none

Hi All,

I purchased a wp-2 off of ebay. One of the nice things about buying a wp-2, is
you can justify the use of space, by just telling yourself..

All I have to do, is get rid of one hard back book! =)

Assuming a sympathetic audience on the 100 mailing list I have some
questions, I've not seen answered on the club 100 site, or I don't know where
to look.

When I received the unit, the 2430 backup battery was dead. I've ordered
one, but it will take a week, and stopping by my local Radio Shack (tm) isn't
an option. I do have a low battery backup indicator and the screen flashes,
which makes trying to use it really annoying.

1) How does one check to see if the extra ram is installed?

a) If no extra ram is installed, does this take a standard ram chip?

 2) There is a space on the side of a memory card.

 a) Is this some sort of special memory pin out or something more
common like PCMCIA?

Thanks,

d.

[M100] New to TPDD questions.

2020-09-14 Thread dano none
Hi All,
Long time owner of a TPDD first time user.

   I've looked at: http://tandy.wiki/TPDD - Lot's of good information!
(Thanks all for that).

Some fairly fundamental questions:
 http://www.club100.org/library/sup/07.txt
What exactly does this procedure do and does it need to be
done, every time batteries are swapped, or every time the drive is hooked to a
new model 100/102?

What's been peoples experience been with read ability of disk between on
TPDD and another - I come from a time where ever Users Group had a nerd with an
O-Scope and an alignment disk...

What's the best bet for 720K diskettes (NOS Ebay?)

It looks like the floppy.co comes on the utility disk
that comes with the drive.

How was tsdos distributed, and what's the easiest way to load today?

What's the easiest way to copy a diskette to either make a backup or send
to someone, can you daisy chain two or more drives together?

Thanks!

[M100] z88 and tandy portable disk drive

2020-09-06 Thread dano none

Has anyone tried hooking up a Tandy Portable Disk Drive to a Cambridge Z88?

The instructions are here:

http://www.rakewell.com/xob/xob.shtml

I think in the instructions to build a cable is says front of connector, I
think that means - looking in to the cable from the front.

Anyway, has anyone done this? Looks like the little Tandy Portable lived a very
exciting life, hooking up with Tandys, Z88's and even knitting machines!

[M100] EZ Assembler

2020-08-14 Thread dano none

So, for those of you laughing at home...

I found this m100 assembly language tutorial - you have to start somewhere

https://archive.org/details/AssemblyLanguageTutorialForModel100/page/n9/mode/2up

two suggestion were made as to what assembler to use:
   1) The IDE in virtual-t - while this looks like a great tool, to build
truly large projects, I couldn't wrap my head around it.
The about virtual-t shows version 1.6, help files show version 1.3,
while there is a section 8, that shows sub-sections related to the IDE,
on my help file, that area appears to be blank?

 2) Stephen mentions TASM and the Crimson Editor, both easy enough found,
downloaded and installed on Windows 10.

I entered the first 20 lines (or so) from the example above:

;prttime
;Oct 30, 1984

   .ORG $DAC0
   ; .ENT $DAC0

mvi a,$54 ;character code for "T"
call $4b44 ;print character in A onto screen
mvi a,$49 ;character code for "I"
   call $4b44 ;print character
mvi a,$4d ;character code for "M
   call $4b44 ;print character
mvi a,$45 ;haracter code for "E"
   call $4b44 ;print character
mvi a,$20 ;aracter code for "space"
   call $4b44 ;print character
mvi a,$3d ;character code for "="
   call $4b44 ;print character
mvi a,$20 ;character code for "space"
   call $4b44 ;print character
   .END

The first thing I found, was that TASM wanted a dot in front of .org and .end -
easy enough, different assemblers have different syntaxes.
The leaves me with the case of ENT - according to the tutorial ENT is the
address for the start of execution.

I'm most familiar with the 99/4a family - where you assemble, link and then
load and run/execution. Maybe I'm missing a couple of steps.

After commenting out ENT, I was able to compile sans errors:

   D:\virtual-t\tasm>tasm -85 -x prog_1.asm
   TASM 8085 Assembler. Version 3.2 September, 2001.
Copyright (C) 2001 Squak Valley Software
tasm: pass 1 complete.
tasm: pass 2 complete.
tasm: Number of errors = 0

Can I get some hints on the correct syntax to compile with, so that I can then
load the compiled file .co in to virtual-t, or are there additional steps to
prepare to load and run?

Thanks,
dano

[M100] EZ Assembler

I own the 8085 Assembler Book by the Blackburn group.

I've always intended on writing a 'Hello World' assembler program on the M100.
Now's the time.

For all you guru's out there, yea... I'm looking at your Ken, Stephen.. =)

What would you recommend as to how to go about this?

XYZ Program on the PC and stuff it in to Model T-Emulator, is there an
assembler that can be download and transferred via the serial port?

I'm open to all recommendations!

This is a pretty easy unit to open up (I didn't say work on =).
Pretty much four large screws and slide the case off.

I recently won one of ebay and before powering it up - sans M100,
I opened the case - found a dead spider and his web - he didn't
shake loose in shipping and that the ground plug for the drive had
come lose, might have been before shipping.

I vacuumed up Mr. Spider and his nest and hit the floppy connections
with some deoxit and re-plugged in the grounding lug and powered
it up. It came up fine. I did get in some replacement DVI cables from
Arcade Shopper but have not connected a working M100 yet.

[M100] New to me DVI

2020-02-25 Thread dano none

About thirty years ago, I had a DVI, I would take my m100 to college class and
take notes.
I would then go to the dorm, hook my 100 up to a dvi and study from my notes
and do my report.
I'd also use the kewl 80-column capability and work on IBM Assembler on the
main frame and fortran on the DEC machines.

Enough memory lane.

I have this unit coming in:

Radio Shack TRS-80 DISK/VIDEO INTERFACE Untested |

Untested Radio Shack/Tandy Corp. disk/video interface cat.

Look like one of the ports to a hit. What should I do first (plug in it, test
it out?) - plan on recapping it, change one of the floppies for one of those
floppy emulators?

I'm also worried about my poor Zenith Green Composite Green Screen - hasn't had
electrons flowing through it in years, does any one know of a repair service
for those?

Thanks,
Dan

[M100] save

Hi,
I'm working through the language lab manual.
I'm glad I've been reading the list, because it's a really good book.

 I'm using Virtual-T, I don't know if it makes a difference, but I have a basic
program that has been saved to ram.

How do I fork the code? I get an error when I try to save the code under a new
name...
Is there a switch for that?
