Hey all,

Zoom is proving problematic for me. I can't open Blue Lacuna, nor can I open
Flexible Survival or any other Inform game.

What is everyone using now under Lion?

this report makes me want to consider again taking the chance and putting 8
gigs in my late 20009 Mac book. I have the same issues that Lynne describes
such as chattering in the voices when several applications are running. yet
Gordon's earlier comments about there being good reasons why one should follow
the posted limits has me concerned. I sure wish someone else would go first!

Re: Lion Mail, hiding read messages.

2011-08-19 Thread Jon Cohn
This is one of the things you could do with "smart mailboxes". Personally, I
set up an Address Book group called Interesting People, and then created a
smart Mail box folder that includes all unread e-mail from the interesting
people address group.

Best regards,

Jonathan

XCode issue navigator.

2011-08-19 Thread Geoff Waaler
Greetings all,

I'm hoping that someone out there has played with xCode and has a little time
to address a few novice questions.

I was trying to ascertain whether the IOS simulator is accessible; the sample
MoveMe project described in Apple's "creating an iPhone application" tutorial
apparently employs a lot of animation. I thought a plane text example might be
a better test for the simulator, so to that end I attempted to build this
HelloWorld project.

I was traversing the issue navigator to correct my errors, but it seems that
either I've not figured out a few things, or that all the tools to make the
development environment easier actually serves the opposite purpose for VO
users.

One error indicated that an interface was missing and asked whether I meant
"HelloWorld" instead of "helloWorld". I saw an option labeled "fix it", but
couldn't seem to select it. More over there didn't seem to be any easy way to
get to the offending line except to find it via project navigator.

One of my errors was "no declaration of property viewcontroler found in the
interface. When I interacted there was no way to read the name of the property
to determine whether there was a case mismatch or a proceeding dash, etc. I
could have copied the last phrase to my clipboard or changed to spell mode, but
assume there must be an easier way to read the name of the offending property
or jump to the line in question?

TIA for any suggestions.
Geoff

RE: Review: WD My Passport Essential portable hard drive

2011-08-19 Thread Gail the U. S. Male
I use three of these also, and have had no trouble, and haven't seen any
hiden partitions. The size of the drive is consistent with what it is
advertised as.

Really? I've had nothing but good luck in the 4 years I've used western
digital drives. I own 3 of them now actually. Also I don't remember seeing
hidden partition. I just reformatted the whole thing when I got it and that
was that. Now the other drive you mentioned. all of those I had died with
in a year of my buying them and I lost a lot of stuff so for me the western
digital drives are what I use and hopefully unless something comes along
that's better is what I will continue to use. My studio is very quiet
because of them.

Hi Everyone!

So you do your grocery shopping every week and you want to be absolutely organized? Then
here's the best app I've seen to help you "organize" your shopping and its free!

Note that the Woolworths app is only available in Australia as far as I know.

This app does everything you'd expect a shoppers helper to do and far more.
Firstly, it can locate your nearest store and thus will display the local
stores product catalogue and appropriate weekly specials if any, you can then
browse all of these and add what you want to your shopping list where you can
edit, manipulate by increasing or decreasing the amount of an item or items
required, email your list to someone or an address in your contacts list etc.

The app is fully accessible with Voiceover with plenty of help screens and tips
available should you find yourself lost in the software.

The app tells in where to find items, for example if you add a kilo of apples
to your shopping list of a particular type, the Woolworths app will tell you in
what row to look and this is displayed in your shopping list so you can send
someone down to the supermarket and they'll know exactly where to find an item.

Have some products in your pan tree you wish to order again but can't remember
what the label says so you've no idea what to search for? No problem, the
Woolworths app has an in-built bar code scanner, take the product from the pan
tree, scan the bar code and the app will identify the product where upon you
can add it to your shopping list.

I see wonderful potential for this app and full marks to the developers for
what they've achieved with the app thus far, pity you can't order a delivery
but perhaps that will come in the future.

In short 2 words sum up my feelings regarding the Woolworths App, "Most
Impressive".

I can help with this.. turn off the lights is a safari extention. I have it on
my mac, too, because I clicked on it when I was trying to install click to

Further to this, how in the world do you remove extentions you try and then
don't want anymore, anybody know?

GH Accessibility, ReadHear

2011-08-19 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi all

Anybody else using ReadHear by any chance? Lynne bought me a copy of this a
while ago, despite its very inflated price tab. :)

What I'm wondering is whether there's an option to globally modify the location
of items in your DAISY library. At the moment I'm having to remove each and
every entry individually and then re-allocate them in the new location. I
always thought that the purpose of having a library was to make things easier.
But it seems that in this case that's not necessarily always the way it is.
For example, I would have thought there would be a "Search" facility to find a
book or item title. But it seems not. I did suggest this to the developers
quite a long time ago but nothing has come of it.

Yes, I know that there is the free "Olaria" DAISY player for OSX but the
problem with that app is that it doesn't allow you to maintain a library, nor,
unless I'm missing something, doe it allow you to bookmark your position and
return to the bookmarks position next session.

I have to admit that I like the convenience of having all my books in a
library. But the inability to do a search is a bit odd. Yes, I know you can
find a book by typing in the first few letters of its title. But having the
ability to search the library based on keywords from the book's description,
author, title and other metadata would be nice.

Re: Overlapping windows

2011-08-19 Thread Gordon Smith
Hello Colin

I appreciate your efforts here but what you need to keep in mind is that VO is
not resident when this is happening. Therefore, the VO commands are, as I said
in a previous message, not relevant.

This has something to do with OSX and nothing whatsoever to do with VoiceOver.
Yes, I know that the sticklers are going to come back to me now and say "what
does this have to do with accessibility then, it's off topic". Actually it
isn't, it's still an OSX related issue and the list policy says "With an
emphasis on, although not necessarily restricted to, accessibility".

So unfortunately the VO commands won't help in this instance Colin. I have to
admit I'm finding this issue very frustrating as it's preventing me from moving
things on. Lynne should be home around 19:00 but whether she feels like
messing around with this is another matter. The problem is basically that the
Finder window is sitting on top of the window we need to use. What we're trying
to do is drag a certificate file from the desktop over to the admin programme
but as long as the two windows overlap I don't see how we can.

Naturally, the Finder window has to be there. As does the other one. So I am
stumped. But I stress again, VoiceOver doesn't come into this, as it isn't
even in use at the time. VO doesn't even see the boxes I need to use.
Apparently you can achieve the same import results via the Terminal. But I
haven't made much progress with the Man pages.

Again, I appreciate the suggestions people are making here.

Gordon

Re: Review: WD My Passport Essential portable hard drive

2011-08-19 Thread Gordon Smith
Hello Sarah

We have a couple of these things and, to be honest, they're really nothing
special. We've also had more trouble with WD drives than any other computing
component. Seagate drives are faster, slicker, more reliable and more Mac
compatible.

The thing I hate about the WD drives is that there's always a hidden partition
on them which you can't re-format. Horrible!

The My Passport Essential gives you plenty of hard drive space in a compact and
lightweight device, making it much more convenient to keep your important
information as close as your pocket.

HI.

did that, still can't see a price. just see increase quantity, decrease
quantity, a disclaimer button and where it's found in the store. I'm
guessing maybe prices aren't included in the main product list because
they differ slightly in the country.

Re: Overlapping windows

2011-08-19 Thread Randy Stegall
Gordon,

That is what I thought. I have enough vision to tell that something is going
on on the display but can't read the print unless vo or zoom is turned on. I
take it that your assistant can't drag the offending window to one side of the
screen and the window he needs to work in to the opposite side?

Re: accessible mud cliants for mac

2011-08-19 Thread Nicolai Svendsen
Hi Collin,

I've actually tracked down at least 15 clients for the Mac. I haven't had a
chance to try all of them, but I saw a page listing them all. I had it
bookmarked, but my bookmarks have become scrambled, so I'll have to dig it up.
However, a simple Google Search will find it, too, if you're so inclined. Some
of them are not being developed anymore, but some of them are.

Atlantis is actually very accessible, however because it uses Growl, it tends
to speak messages as they appear and not in any orderly fashion, especially if
you use the Speech display. That is the only real downside, though this is a
general downside to Growl if you do use the Speech display.

Regards,
Nic

Hi Randy

You can't do this with VoiceOver, that's the whole point. VO doesn't even see
the relevant boxers.

So no Vo solution is going to work I'm afraid.

You have to literally drag & drop them using the trackpad. VoiceOver has to be
turned off at the time or it gets in the way.

Re: Overlapping windows

2011-08-19 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi Colin

No, I don't think you quite understand. I'm not talking about moving through
the windows, that's easy. The problem is that the person who is trying to help
me can't visually see the items he needs to be able to see because there are
apparently windows overlying windows. This has absolutely nothing to do with
VoiceOver. In fact, VO isn't even running at the time.

Thanks for the attempt though.

Gordon

Re: Shopping Apps For Iphone/Ipad

2011-08-19 Thread Dane Trethowan
Yep, just for Woolworths as far as I know.

Regarding the delivery of groceries which the online Woolworths store at
handles, I rang their customer support today and
yep, they're working on integrating the online store with the app but there's
one big problem Woolworths has to address, the app deals with the local store
in your area - as determined by your GPS location - and the online business is
a totally separate game so I guess we can only wait to see what happens.

Hello Randy

The software is Apple's Server admin tool, but the Finder or something is
getting in the way. It's irritating because obviously VoiceOver doesn't care
where the windows are.

Overlapping windows

2011-08-19 Thread Gordon Smith
hi all

I'm having a bit of a problem, wonder if anybody can help. I'm trying to get
somebody with vision to give me a hand to import some certificate files. You
need to drag & drop these files into two boxes within the software but the
problem is that there seem to be windows on top of windows and we cannot move
them so that the boxes are clearly visible.

I'm a bit confused because the only thing I have open is the Finder, but my
helper still insists that he can't see the windows properly. Any thoughts and
suggestions as to how to shift these would be appreciated.

Gordon
