Hello Gordon,

I wrote out instructions for how to move your iTunes library content to an
external drive, with a link to the ilounge guide for how to do this. Take a
read through my list post at the Mail Archives:
• Moving iTunes library to an external drive [was Re: Itunes question]
http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access@mac-access.net/msg07714.html

The actual "moving", as Sarah described, is done by the "Organize library…"
menu option under the File menu on the iTunes menu bar which you find under the
"Library" sub-menu. This is what used to be called "Consolidate library".
It's a two-step process: first, you bring up your iTunes preferences with
Command-comma, and navigate to the "Advanced" pane in the toolbar and select it
with VO-Space. There you change the iTunes Media folder location. to point to a
folder on your external hard drive. Then you close preferences and navigate to
the "File" menu of the iTunes menu bar, arrow down, press "l" to move to
"LIbrary", and right arrow to the "Organize library…" option under the Library
sub-menu and press return.

This action will move files from your iTunes Media folder (and any other
locations outside of the iTunes Media folder where you may have added tracks to
your library) to your new, designated location on the external drive. It will
also update your iTunes database files (the "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes
Music Library.xml" files) to use paths to the new location, but I think it will
not move these files out of the iTunes Media folder on your main hard drive.
(Of course, if you first manually move try to move the whole iTunes Media
Folder including these files without using the "Organize library…" option it
may recreate them.)

Please read through the linked post, and the ilounge guide on this subject.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Hi Debbie,

What are you trying to install? What type of files are you copying to the

Re: Question about installing programs on a mac?

2012-09-13 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Debbie,

A DMG file is a disk image. When you get one of these, you need to open it with
Cmd-o.

You'll then find a file browser window. Interact with this and if it contains a
PKG file, open that with Cmd-o also. If it contains an APP file, just copy it
to your Applications folder.

Generally, on opening a PKG, you'll be in an installer. Just follow the
instructions and you'll be fine. When it asks for your username and password,
these are the ones for your user on your computer, i.e. the ones you use at
login.

The Installer will put the application in the right place for you, so don't
worry that you can't see it once the installation has finished.

Cheers,

Anne

If it is a .app file then you copy it to the apps folder and it will install.
If it is a ..pkg file run it and it will install and put the app in the apps
folder. In copying the app's file to the app;s folder just know that it is
installed.

Re: XLD documentation

2012-09-13 Thread Esther
Hi Dónal,

There's always the web page for XLD (English version):
http://tmkk.pv.land.to/xld/index_e.html
You can check the section under the heading "How to use". It's also discussed
(briefly) in a number of MacWorld articles such as the May 2011 article by Kirk
McElhearn, "How to convert audio to other formats":
http://www.macworld.com/article/1159773/convert_audio_to_other_formats.html
and gets a mention in the June 2011 article, "How to find and play
high-resolution audio on the Mac":
http://www.macworld.com/article/1160651/how_to_find_and_play_high_resolution_audio_on_the_mac.html
There's also some more detailed discussion in his February 2011 article, "Four
reasons to rip CDs without iTunes":
http://www.macworld.com/article/1158059/four_reasons_rip_cds_without_itunes.html

Hope these links don't wrap, but you can find most of them on MacWorld's page
that I pulled up in a web search:
http://www.macworld.com/product/802661/tmkk_x_lossless_decoder_xld.html
Navigate to the heading, "Macworld's X Lossless Decoder (XLD) Coverage" and
look through the links to some of the listed articles. In a pinch, you should
also be able to run down the articles with a Google search, since I give title,
author, and source.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: XLD documentation

2012-09-13 Thread Dónal Fitzpatrick
Hi Esther,

*smile* I'd looked at the webpage. I guess I was looking for something a bit
more comprehensive. For example, and this is purely illustrative, there's a
portion in the "preferences" dialog where one can specify the name of the
decoded (output) track. There are "%n" etc. used. Now I can decode the
default one easily enough, but what other options are there?

The Macworld articles I had not seen so will take a look at those.

Cheers.

Re: XLD documentation

2012-09-13 Thread Esther
Hi Dónal,

I did think you had probably checked the web page, but just consider this in
the long tradition of terse unix documentation man pages. (Sorry, I wish there
were a more descriptive source for how best to use this. Sometimes I find such
descriptions in reviews, so I may hunt around for these or for blog postings.)
Maybe Gordon can make some suggestions, since he and Lynne have been using this
software.

Cheers,

Esther

Guess we'll have to wait for a fix from apple. For now it's a downloading I

my last message

2012-09-13 Thread Sarah Alawami
Ok. I have no idea how this happened, how ever I was trying to send a message
to my spam reporting service I use called spam cop for those who use it. I
think I've not gotten enough sleep as that report went to the list instead. I
could just melt in to the nearest hole and die right now. I think I need to get
some sleep or slow down as I never intended to send such a message. I hope
you all will forgive me and I hope that this will *never* happen again.

I think what also happens is sometime s mail does not generate these picture
attachments right away so I sometimes have no idea when the too field will
reappear. those who have forwarded emails as attachments will know what i
mean. Again sorry about the mess I might have created. I don't know how to make
it up to the list besides disappear for a while. lol.

Anyways take care of yourselves and be blessed.

I'm going to go troubleshoot a computer problem someone is having.

Be safe and have a wonderful day/evening.

If it turned out the message I sent bounced and never made it to the list be
thankful. and disregard what I just said.

Again so sorry..

Is there such a thing? I know the ios can be set to 24 hour time but it always
corresponds to where you live. Will the world clock do this under the clock

have Greenwich Meantime for some reason on his phone. lol.

Thanks. and he's running an iPhone 4s with the latest ios 5.

Yeah it's the same with mine. I guess they do that in case there is a kernel
