Re: BrailleNote in Terminal mode

2013-04-20 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi Josh

No worries, I'll go take a look right now. It would be nice to be able to
write in grade 2 Braille sometimes, much as I love the keyboard on my new
MacBook Air, and this external one. The brand new Apex is sitting next to me
crying out to be used.

Kind regards

Help understanding/organising bookmarks in Safari

2013-04-20 Thread Catherine Turner
Hi,

I'm struggling to understand how the bookmarks are organised in Safari
and wonder if anyone can help me. Am I right in thinking that in
order to get to any bookmarks not contained in the bookmarks bar I
need to choose show all bookmarks from the bookmarks menu? I would
like to create several folders, maybe the easiest thing would be to
put these folders on the bookmarks bar. Because when I go to show all
bookmarks I am confused by the ensuing window. I am never sure in
this window when I need to interact with something and when I need to
select it, or if merely by moving onto it I have selected it. I keep
selecting bookmarks thinking this will take me to that website but it
seems to select the text and think I want to rename it. Other than
pressing VO space or double tapping on it, I can't think how else to
say I want to go to this website now. Can anyone help me get my head
round this? If not I guess I'll just have to put everything in the
bookmarks bar but this seems a bit messy. Is there any way of having
bookmarks folders showing from the bookmarks menu, or does it only
show the bookmarks bar, and anything other than that you have to go to
show all bookmarks?

 Hi Catherine,
I normally press command alt l, and that tells you what is downloading.
if you tab it brings up the table of things that are downloading and things
that have downloaded, tab again and if it says stop, it is still
 downloading
but, if it says something like find in finder, then it is finished
 downloading.

Hope this makes sense and helps.

 Hi,

A few times when I've downloaded files in Safari I've not been sure
it's happening and clicked the link again just in case, then I get
several copies of the file. I guess I should just get used to knowing
it will be downloading, but I wonder is there something I'm missing in
picking up a file is being downloaded? I mean should there be a
progress indicator or something? Or is it possible to set up a sound
when files are being downloaded or something?

 Thanks,

I don't understand the need for the bootcamp support software, if, in fact,
you installed the OS in VMWare.

Isn't the bootcamp support software only used for a bootcamp installation?

Suffice it to say that I just installed Fusion 5.1.4 I think that is the
right version number. I also just installed the Mic….shshshshshsh number 7
operating system. Then, I installed the Boot Camp support software. On the

runs like grieved lightning! In fact, it's absolutely seamless.

Buying a mac

2013-04-20 Thread Matthew C
Hello all. Well I ordered a refurbished mac book pro last night. It looked
like it was a good one to me. I plan on putting windows on it mostly to be
able to use my station playlist and other windows programs. I won't go into
that any further here at least not on list. I will be looking for an app
that is like the vo starter for I devices. I think I remember there being
one out there. Is this true?

Thanks,

Matt

There is the trainer. Use it when you get the mac. In fact there is a nice
little prompt that talks about it at the beginning. here is a gander of what
the truing mode sounds like.

If you ever need to access it again simply from any ware hit control option
command f8. I didn't finish the training as for some reason one of the commands
would not work. but I did not want to make this long and boring either lol!

Re: Virtual Machine observations

2013-04-20 Thread Sarah k Alawami
I actually ran a boot camp setting from vmware and I did not like it. The
virtual machine took 15 minutes to boot up and the way I have it set up now it
only takes about 2 to 3 to boot my guest os. and at the time the mac was only 6
or so months old lol! but if you want I can paste an excerpt of that email I
have on how to change the latency so that keys typed and things done are almost
instant.

Take care.

2013-04-20 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi all

I have some irreplaceable data in our Archives mailbox. However, since the
reinstall of OS X yesterday, the archives have gone. Please, please don't tell
me they were client specific! We had over 2000 massages and attachments stored
in there!

Kind regards

Re: thinking of upgrading my mbp to 8 gigs but how?

2013-04-20 Thread Sarah k Alawami
lol. You're talking to someone who almost cut their finger off on a band saw,
cut their thumb twice whilst making a meal for 40, and crossing a street at the
wrong time because she was not paying attention. I think I'll stay away from
computer hardware. lol. Well maybe I can find a college student in the IT
department or a prof that can do it for much cheaper then the beak squad here
in the us.

Take care and be blessed.

go to http://tffppodcast.com/listen and do a search for boot camp. It had
better be up there. I have several eps missing that cannot be replaced. so if
one of them is boot camp there's not much I can do lol!

I have it now set up with vmware but I don't feel like doing it again as the
set up was about 3 or 4 hours long. Same with boot camp.

Take care.

Re: Virtual Machine observations

2013-04-20 Thread Sarah k Alawami
Here are the instructions.

Begin instructions:
1. navigate to the .vmware file of your os that you installed with vmware
google where the files are stored on a mac if you can't find it
2. when on the .vmware file e.g win xp.vmware right click and show package
contents
3. find (os name) .vmx e.g win xp.vmx
right click, choose open with, and other...
next find the pop up menu that says recommended applications
and set that to all applications
then browse and open the file with text edit
then at the bottom insert the following line
pciSound.playBuffer = 14

(note I set mine to 14 witch is the lowest value my mbp can handle before
choppy sound occurs)
you can try this and if not go up 3 numbers higher or so
then save the file
note make sure fusion is not running while editing the file

End instructions:

Good luck. and be sure to make a back up in case something brakes. I have mine
set to 10 I believe.

Accessible DLNA iPod / iPhone app?

2013-04-20 Thread Adrian Beech
G'day all,

I'm looking for a Voice Over friendly DLNA app for use on both my iPhone and
iPod Touch and would greatly appreciate recommendations. What I'm trying to
do is connect the app to a media server (hosted on my router) and stream
MP3/FLAC audio as well as the odd video.

Thanks for any info.

Cheers.

AB
