Can't really create an account on the iPod, you can add it to the mail
application but cannot create it. You'll also need help dealing with the
capcha...

Now that I think about it you might be able to do it, through the mobile
website through Safari on the iPod, but you will need a phone number to text
too. That's part of the creation process in the mobile version, they will
text you a Code and you have to enter it to continue. It's either that or a
link don't remember which.

trying to set up a gmail account on an iPod Touch Fifth Generation

2013-08-04 Thread meadowlark77
I'm having one time. I cannot seem to get a gmail account set up on this new
iPod Touch Fifth Generation. If I set my gmail account up on it, it'll work,
but that thing is already created. I guess what my question is, is this. Do
we have to create the account on a computer first and then set it up on the
iPod? When I set my gmail account up on my iPhone5, I had that account for a
long long time. It was already set up on my computer. Can we not create a
gmail account at all, on the iPod Touch? My Wi-Fi is connected and it sees
that stuff. And, in order for me to create an Apple ID, I need an E-Mail
address, so I thought I could create the gmail account first and use that
E-Mail address for the username for this account. This iPod is going to
someone who has never had an E-Mail address, so this is the first. What do
ya think I should do?

Thanks in advance,

Brenda

cannot get back to them once you created them.

> of Pages.

That being said, you need to remember (and maybe you've discovered this
already), that Voice Over support for Pages is quite rudimentary. This is such
a shame and extremely disappointing. Maybe this will improve later this year.
There are workarounds for a number of things such as including headers in
documents, but they are long-winded and are sometimes hit and miss. You can
include headings, but the process is quite time-consuming. Once you've got the
headings you want though, you're good to go. Footnotes are another matter
though. However, as with my following suggestion, what you use depends on what
you want to do.
>
> I am wondering if anyone has a suggestion on a different word processor other
> than text edit.
>
There are a number of free solutions, including one that I believe is called
"iText Express". If i remember correctly, this is a revamped version of
TextEdit with some features including footnotes that TextEdit itself cannot
create. If however you want an experience comparable to MS Word though, you
might consider either Nisus Writer Express or Nisus Writer Pro. Each can be
found in the App Store or on the developer's website at:

http://www.nisus.com

The support from the developer is excellent and both the Express and Pro
versions can handle the importing of Word files. I think the difference between
the two is that Express does not offer Tables of Contents and a few other
features that the developers deem useful only to professionals. They are
however quite expensive.

At the moment, neither of these products offer Voice Over support for tables.
They do however offer a 15-day free trial from the website.

Other people on this list use Nisus's word processing products and I'm sure
that if you decided to give them a try, we would all be happy to help you
overcome any difficulties you might encounter.

Re: Help please with Numbers

2013-08-04 Thread Andy Collins
Hi Anne - Just been playing with it again, and got a bit further in that I
found the results of my search, but couldn't quite manage to get myself on to
that area of the spreadsheet. I had the text that I had searched for, in a
table, and I hit VO CMD F5 to move the mouse to the selection, and then did a
mouse click with VO shift space, and heard a click, but when I then stopped
interacting, I couldn't get to the area on the spreadsheet itself, that
contained what I was searching for. Will have to keep playing about with it and
see… -

Re: just downloading and not installing the latest iOS update file

I have noticed that it seems to be much faster updating an IPhone over

and do it over wifi at home. If not find somewhere she can use a

Re: OS X Mountain Lion: What is the Library folder?

2013-08-04 Thread Sarah k Alawami
What you do is hit cmd shift g then type ~/library this will take you to your
user name slash library and from there you should be goo to go. To unhide the
library until the next os10 update type in the terminal the cmd shift g should
be typed from with in the finder itself which can be gotten to by hitting vo
shift d from any ware.

chflags nohidden ~/Library/

and you will be good to go.

2013-08-04 Thread Sarah k Alawami
If you do that you will be forced to set up as a new iPhone unless she can
restore from iCloud. what I do is hit restore, then when the thing comes up hit
download only the navigate to where the ipsw is store which is
~/library/itunes/iPhone Software Updates then download the copy the ipsw to the
desk top then option click the restore button once you have her phone connected
if it will let you and then brows to the ipsw file and follow the prompts. if
the new phone dialogue comes up I don't' know what to tell you as I actually
had the same question at one time and could not restore this persons's phone
even when I started a new library.

Take care.

Re: Help please with Numbers

2013-08-04 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Andy,

There are two scroll areas. Having stopped interacting with the one containing
the layout area, you have to navigate down to the other scroll area which
contains a table in which you find any results from your search.

I agree that it's convoluted, but it's all we have for now.

Let's hope that they bring out a new version of iWork before too long, and that
it's more accessible!

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Selecting text using QuckNav in pages

Hello Jonathan,

If you're talking about the Pages application, Quick Nav is a bad idea. Having
interacted with the item on the page, such as body or header, you have to bring
the mouse and do a VO-Shift-Space bar click then just use the arrow keys to
navigate or edit.

What does the VoiceOver manual say, anyway?

Re: OS X Mountain Lion: What is the Library folder?

2013-08-04 Thread Zachary Kline
 Hey,
On the contrary, accessing the library folder, hidden or not, is easy via
Finder. Hit cmd-shift-g, to open the “Go to Folder,” dialog, and type
“~/library,” without the quotes. ~ is a Unixism for your home folder. You will
be taken to the Library folder and able to dive in as you see fit.
I’d caution against cavalier editing of anything in there without directions,
though. It’s really meant mostly for programs to use, hence why it’s hidden
from end users normally.
Yours,
Zack.

Ok. for those of you who use down cast I found out thanks to down cast on
twitter where podcasts are stored.

from the finder hit go and paste in

~/Library/Containers/com.jamawkinaw.downcast.mac/Data/Library/Application
Support/com.jamawkinaw.downcast.mac/.Downloaded_Media

and hit enter.

Re: OS X Mountain Lion: What is the Library folder?

2013-08-04 Thread Georgina Joyce
Hello,

I don't know what it is you are trying to achieve. Yes the Library directory is
hidden. The instruction to access it via finder appears difficult and I don't
understand it. However, I can access my Library directory via the terminal.
From utilities run terminal. Then you can use the change directory command "cd'
i.e.:

cd Library

Then press enter / return. You then will need to cd into the downcast folder. I
don't have downcast installed so I don't know what path you require.

You may want to unhide the Library directory which will make finder navigation
easier but has security issues. Or I guess that is why Apple decided to make it
hidden by default.

Good luck

Gena

2013-08-04 Thread Jonathan Tyrer
I've followed the instructions in the VO manual over and over, but I
just can't manage to delete a word using the QuickNav method.

Does it work and if so, are the instructions incomplete in some way?

Re: Help please with Numbers

2013-08-04 Thread Andy Collins
Hi Anne - I tried following your instructions, and got as far as interacting
with scroll area, and table, but where you say "find desired result", stumped
me, as I was at the top of the spreadsheet, and not on the result of the
search. -This appears to be a very convoluted way to find a cell in a
spreadsheet; hope I can figure it out
