Re: can we make folders in Voice Dream?

2013-08-18 Thread Geoff Waaler
Hi Brenda,

In the main Voice Dream window, there is a button in the upper left corner that
toggles between"home" and "folders".

When "folders" is selected, you will notice an add button which is located at
the top of the window near the center of the screen. That button presents a
dialog where you can name a folder. As you may already know, one of the items
in Voice Dream's settings allows Voice Dream to link with DropBox. Assuming
that you've done this, you can import files into a specific folder from dropbox
as follows.

1. Select "folders".
2. Select the target folder under "my folders".
3. Select the "add" button which is located in the bottom left corner of the
window.
4. select "dropbox".
5. Select the folder of interest, and double tap the file to import it into
VoiceDream.

It is not possible to drag files around within a folder, but you can use the
"sort order" button and choose between "add date", "title", "author" and "size".

Hope this helps.
Geoff

Re: Opening a password protected document

2013-08-18 Thread Andy Collins
I know the ways to open files, my problem is with a password protected one.
When I go to open it, text edit opens and VO says e degress plus or minus. I've
tried typing in the password on that screen and hitting enter; tab; and VO
space, but non of these work.

If I interact with that line that says e degrees plus or minus, and type in the
password, and then stop interacting, when I arrow down, I seem to have a screen
of nonsense characters. Remember this is a file created on a Windows Vista
machine, and password protected on that machine. If somebody can actually tell
me the regular way of opening a passworded Windows file on a Mac, then at least
I'd know if there is an issue with the file itself.

Thanks -

Andy

Hi Don,

The Mac remembers separate volume settings for its internal speakers and for

I use to see that problem with PDF files on my Windows machines, but that was
because the file had been scanned in as an image, and hadn't started life as a
text document. The doc in this case is a word 2007 doc. Maybe Text Edit is too
basic to handle passworded files? -

Buring a video DVD: with a bit of a twist.

2013-08-18 Thread Chris Gilland
Here's the situation. I have a file which is a really weird format. It's in
.mkv format. I haven't been able to find anything whatsoever on either Windows
or the mac, preferably the mac, that will play the file aside from the obvious
of VLC. But then, I knew VLC would play it. that's kind of obvious. I mean
really… what won't vlc play? Anyway, that's kind of not the point, the thing
is, I don't know of any software that would let me burn or re-encode this
thing. If it was an AVI, or MPG, or the like, even a .mov, I'd be fine, but
being it's mkv I'm not really sure. I understand I could simply use Audio
Hijack or something and just capture the audio from the thing, but being this
is probably over 72 hours long for the entire set of files I have… and yes,
before any asks, this is totally legal what I'm doing. I bought this online
through a digital online store. Unfortunately, they use this format, which I
didn't realize ahead of time, so don't even go there! If anyone knows how I
can get these on dvd so I can play them in my DVD player in my bedroom you
would really make my day to share your knowledge. Usually I'm quite good at
looking things up online, and normally speaking, I can generally make Google
cry for its mamma, and can bring it to its knees, but in this case, I'm
striking out.

Chris.

Try itext express and see if you can open the doc that way, it's free and so
is the bean word processer. I don't know if those will work, but it's worth a

Re: Opening a password protected document

2013-08-18 Thread Andy Collins
Before I go for those apps, can you confirm if Text Edit allows for adding
passwords? I can get round the Windows doc issue by just opening it on my
Windows machine, and copying it to my Mac, but I would then want to password
it. Will Text Editor allow for this? as I can't seem to find such an option -

Re: Do I need to buy pages to password documents?

2013-08-18 Thread Red.Falcon
Hi!
OK you could make a password protected disc image with disc utility and [if you
like incripted as well] and then put any text edit doc's in there!
and then save it to Document's like I have!
When you need access to said Document's hit Command+O on that DMG in Document's
you will be asked for the password and then the DMG will be mounted on your
desktop interact with it and select the Document you wish to look at and
pressing Command+O on it will launch it into text Edit!
So you can do with it what you need to!
HTH Colin
PS making the DMG is fully accessible!

After launching the disk utility, go to file, then new, then blank disk image.
After that choose the highest inscription they have and put it on your desk
top at first so you can test it out.

After hitting save, you will be presented with a password prompt. enter one but
do not check the remember in key chain.

Re: Do I need to buy pages to password documents?

2013-08-18 Thread Andy Collins
Thank you - this is very helpful. I've just taken an initial look, intending to
go further tomorrow. Can I ask what the disclosure triangle is all about? I
have seen it under Text Editor, when it comes to saving a doc, and it was there
again when I was looking at the Disc utility. Sometimes it is checked, other
times not. I leave it alone as I don't know what it is refering too? As far as
the other settings go within Disc Utility, is it best to leave them as they
are, I was thinking mostly about where it mentions partitioning, if I leave
that as set, will it leave my hard drive as it is, or does creating this new
disk image add an additional partition to the drive? -

 Hi!
OK you could make a password protected disc image with disc utility and
[if you like incripted as well] and then put any text edit doc's in there!
and then save it to Document's like I have!
When you need access to said Document's hit Command+O on that DMG in
Document's you will be asked for the password and then the DMG will be
mounted on your desktop interact with it and select the Document you wish
to look at and pressing Command+O on it will launch it into text Edit!
So you can do with it what you need to!
 HTH Colin
PS making the DMG is fully accessible!

That will let you brows exactly where to put something for example in a folder
in your documents. If you close that you can only go to either to the last 10
places you've saved, or through the short cuts for desk top and documents and
home directory etc.

Geoff, can we make a sublevel under a folder or not? After supper, I'm going

Hi Brenda,

In the main Voice Dream window, there is a button in the upper left corner
that toggles between"home" and "folders".

When "folders" is selected, you will notice an add button which is located
at the top of the window near the center of the screen. That button
presents a dialog where you can name a folder. As you may already know, one
of the items in Voice Dream's settings allows Voice Dream to link with
DropBox. Assuming that you've done this, you can import files into a
specific folder from dropbox as follows.

1. Select "folders".
2. Select the target folder under "my folders".
3. Select the "add" button which is located in the bottom left corner of the
window.
4. select "dropbox".
5. Select the folder of interest, and double tap the file to import it into
VoiceDream.

It is not possible to drag files around within a folder, but you can use the
"sort order" button and choose between "add date", "title", "author" and
"size".

Hope this helps.
Geoff

Hi Chris,
This is probably really really unconventional, but it works. Try an app on the
mac called tunesify. It won't burn the file to anything, but it will convert it
to mp3 or m4a or any other audio format. It works really well. I've trhown all
kinds of audio and video formats at it since I got it about two years ago. You
can get it in the mac app store for $1.99 or something.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tunesify/id412675054?mt=12

and the current price is $3.99 which still is not bad at all.

Will also take a look.

Take care and be blessed.

Robert,

You're exactly right. Just operator error plain and simple.

Hi Don,

The Mac remembers separate volume settings for its internal speakers and for

subfolders under Voice Dream? Is that possible?

2013-08-18 Thread meadowlark77
Hello y'all,

I made a folder in voice dream. Now, I want to make a sub under that.
Can we do that? I don't seem to see that option. If not, then, what I'm
trying to do, will have to be named in numeric sequence. I have 450 recipes
to deal with, all under different categories. If I cannot deal with them in
subs, then, I'll have to deal with them in number sequence. Should I then,
start with number 001 and not 01? I'm wanting to get this thing right.

Thanks and take care,

Brenda
