VoiceOver prefrences

2013-09-16 Thread George Cham
Hi all,
Now that I'm using VoiceOver commands instead of the mouse, I came across the
VoiceOver preferences, in VoiceOver section of accessibility.
It said that the user can export VoiceOver preferences.
My question is this, how do you import the VoiceOver settings back onto the
Mac?
Also please take note, I'm using a new email address.
Just sending this message through to make sure that it's working ok.

to import the prefs you can go to file, import and follow the prompts, you do
this from the voice over utility. I believe the key board short cut is cmd
shift I, but just in case that does not work it is is under file menu.

to shut down or put in sleep mode. also, what is Mavrick?

2013-09-16 Thread Linda C. Knight

Hi all,

As mac users, are you suppose to shut down the computer or just let stay in
sleep mode. Or is it just a matter of preference.

Also, what is Mavrick I've been reading about on here. Is that the future
update to mountain lion?

Thanks

Re: to shut down or put in sleep mode. also, what is Mavrick?

2013-09-16 Thread Bryan Jones
Hi Linda -- In my opinion, shutting down versus sleeping is largely a personal
preference. I normally shut down or restart all of my computers, tablets and
smartphones at least once a day, but I'm a an old IT guy who was burned once
too often by operating systems that would not reliably wake up after being put
to sleep. Fortunately, sleep mode inMountain Lion seems pretty reliable, and I
will often sleep / wake my Macbook Air several times a day by closing / opening
the lid.

Maverick, properly named Mavericks, is the name of the next release of Mac OS.
A quick web search for Mavericks Apple should take you to Apple's page
dedicated to Mavericks.

HTH,
Bryan

I shut down my mac but that's my own choice and this is coming from
using i.t. for years. Maverix is the next major update to Os X.

Re: to shut down or put in sleep mode. also, what is Mavrick?

2013-09-16 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hi Brian,
I nearly always put my iMac to sleep rather than shut it down. I do this
because it is then much quicker to startup the next day. I just have to enter
my password to startup. the disadvantage of sleep mode is that the computer
does consume a small amount of power while asleep.

Maverick is the next release of Mac OS due in the Fall (November?). If Apple
follows its usual practice you should be able to upgrade from Mountain Lion to
Maverick via the App store for a modest cost - I recall that it was about 29
dollars to upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion.
