RE: how can you tell when Jambox needs updated

2013-09-27 Thread meadowlark77
I don't know about that site you are talking about. I don't think I use any
program that gets those.

At any rate, what's confusing about this updater is that it seems
that the sound that lets you know it's connected, only works when the device
is off. If I turn the device on, like I have to do with any other device I
have, it doesn't even show up in the system tray. If I right click on the
Jawbone Updater, and if I arrow down in the context menu, It will say:

Jawbone plugged in: disabled

What's that all about? It's plugged in. But if I turn the device on, nothing
shows up in the system tray whatsoever. Jawbone comes on at Start-up, and if
I don't hae the device plugged in, of course, it'sll say:

Jawbone not plugged in.

Boy, they could sure use some help in accessibility. I have not updated mine
probably since about April or something like that.

Take care and thanks,

Brenda

Hello. How can you tell when the small jambox needs updated? It's plugged in

Apple's response to my enquiry about flash accessibility

2013-09-27 Thread Andy Collins
Hi all -

In my frustration at not being able to listen to a sports stream, I contacted
Apple accessibilty, below is there reply. It doesn't quite add up, as they say
Adobe hasn't made flash accessible to screen readers, and yet JAWS for one does
pretty much ok these days with it. Non the less, perhaps if lots of us folowed
their sugestion of contacting Adobe, this time it might make a difference? -

Andy
  Hello,

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately there is an issue with the Flash
component that makes it inaccessible to screen readers. Apple has reported this
issue to Adobe over the years and in March of 2011 they announced plans to fix
it, you can see their blog post in the link below:

http://blogs.adobe.com/accessibility/2010/03/flash_player_and_flex_support.html

Unfortunately, Adobe has not made the appropriate changes to Flash that make it
screen reader compatible. We would encourage the you to contact Adobe and
request that they implement the changes that will make Flash content
accessible.

Re: Apple's response to my enquiry about flash accessibility

2013-09-27 Thread Mike Arrigo
This is more of an adobe problem than a voiceover issue. Windows is a
different platform, and Adobe has made flash somewhat accessible on
that platform, but this has not been done on the mac. Fortunately,
flash is slowly going away and being replaced by html 5 which provides
all of the same features and is much more accessible, hopefully this
site will move to html 5 soon.

Hello Andy,

Extensions are not like normal apps. You don't see them in your Downloads
folder. To set up Click2Flash to suit your needs, you open Safari preferences
and select the Extensions tab. There, you'll find a table of installed
extensions, interact with it and select Click2Flash.

It has a long list of its own preferences for which you can set shortcuts.

Some time over the weekend, I'll send you a private message with how to set up
Click2Flash with shortcuts that don't clash with anything that's there by
default.

Sorry I can't do it tonight, but I'm falling asleep.

Cheers,

Anne

 Hello,

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately there is an issue with the
Flash component that makes it inaccessible to screen readers. Apple has
reported this issue to Adobe over the years and in March of 2011 they
announced plans to fix it, you can see their blog post in the link below:

http://blogs.adobe.com/accessibility/2010/03/flash_player_and_flex_support.html

Unfortunately, Adobe has not made the appropriate changes to Flash that
make it screen reader compatible. We would encourage the you to contact
Adobe and request that they implement the changes that will make Flash
content accessible.

This is very kind of you. I've just had a look at it, and it does seem a bit

functions etc.

Looking forward to receiving your help.

Ah perhaps it better then to move the thread if possible to the techno chat
list as a lot of windows topics and I believe some jam box stuff is
discussed on there. windows is not aloud on this list according to the rules
on the website for this list. If you need the info I can give it it to you
as soon as I go through my disorganized chaos. lol!

If you are working on a mac try using safari. There is no system tray
 under
 mac osx.

 Take care.

 Hi Brenda,
They are notoriously difficult to update.
I haven't done it for a while but, I believe once you've chosen the
 correct
update, the next step is right at the very bottom of the page.
If you use Audioboo, Andre Lewis did a very good podcast about it.

 Cheers,

Hello. How can you tell when the small jambox needs updated? It's plugged
 in
right now, but when I go to the jawbone updater page, I go round and
 round
in circles. I can't tell if it needs to be updated or not. It sees my
device, but I can find no update buttons.

 Thanks in advance,

 Brenda
