System Preferences Alert Ssaying Busy: Why?

2013-11-24 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello,

I just added some pictures from DropBox to iPhoto. I know in system preferences
under display there is the option to image this to my Apple TV. However, the
MBA continues to say Busy when I press any keystroke combination or arrow
keys. Why is this happening and how can i correct this? Any suggestions would
be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Eileen

Nicecast: I? am about? to, scream!

2013-11-24 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
OK, so this was a real nice way to wake up and start my birthday. Yayayay!
No joke, yes, today's really my BD. Anyway... I bought a lifetime license
to WHMSonic which I've installed on a dedicated server running WHM/CPanel.
I got that working perfectly. Now however, I've tried to connect to one of
my streams using Nicecast. I set the new server I added to Nicecast as
Shoutcast, I made sure the address was correctly set on the broadcast screen
under info, I made sure everything under quality was set correctly, I made
sure the password was in correctly, yes, I checked the radio button in the
servers table to select the shoutcast server instead of the internal server,
yes, the port is opened on my firewall on the server running WHMSonic. Yes,
Auto-DJ works fine on the same port when configured in WHMSonic, yes, I can
connect to the server with the shoutcast dsp plugin in WinAmp on Windows.
I'm totally at a loss! It's 11:00! I've been working on this damn thing
since 8 this morning non-stop! Frankly, I'm about ready to scream! I wrote
whm sonic support, they tell me it's a problem with Nicecast, which I tend
to believe by the way. I write Nicecast support, they got back with me, and
told me it's an issue with WHM Sonic to contact them. I'm getting thrown
round about. Why do we want to use WHM Sonic to start with, cause
Centovacast is crap, in my opinion, to put it bluntly, plus, I can't
entegrade regular shoutcast DNAS server into WHM/CPanel, so there went the
idea of me hosting shoutcast servers if I want to down the road. Icecast 1
and 2 isn't helping either. I found a place that offered free trial servers
of both, and Nicecast won't connect to them either. All I get when I try
connecting with any compatible player is Icy 401, service unavailable. Yes
before you ask, my source is set correctly, and yes I double checked. If I
connect via local host to my own mac running Nicecast using Nicecast's own
dedicated built in server, that works, but again, then we don't get all the
cool things offered by WHMSonic like auto DJ etc, so that won't work.
Again, Auto DJ works fine, and if I enable that in WHMSonic, I can connect
from ITunes, VLC, WinAmp on windows, whatever, and the stream comes up
without any issues at all.

I'm starting to wonder even though WHMSonic says it's based on the Shoutcast
DNAS server, if theyr'e lying. It would surprise me, seeing that they're
support has been anything but helpful from the very get go. When I told
them I may dispute the charge for my purchase, they literally said, go
ahead, we can dispute it right back. We dare you! Those were there exact
words virbadum! Needless to say, I'm pissed! I can't even find out truely
what server things backbone off of. I know auto DJ let's you select if you
want the stream to be AAC, AAC+ or mp3. I know the shoutcast DNAS server
doesn't stream in AAC of any sort. Only in mp3. this is another reason I'm
being led to wonder if there is something else maybe it's actually back
boning off, even though most shoucast clients like Nicecast in this case
technically, should be able to connect. This just makes no sense. Even if
not Shoutcast through WHM Sonic, has anyone successfully gotten Nicecast to
connect to a shoutcast server? I know this is somewhat unrelated to the
Mac, but Im justifying my post in that I'm trying to get this working with
Nicecast. Frankly, if I get told this is off topic, and to post elseware,
I'll be beyond irate, so much so, it may risk me leaving the list for good.

Anyway, thanks for your help. And yes, I know, happy BD to me. Thanks for
the present of the gift of successfully having me break things, apparently.

Chris.

Brilliant discovery

2013-11-24 Thread Chris H

Good evening everyone.
Tomorrow I'm going to exchange the iPhone 4 for cash. Just done an erase
all content and settings so it's good to go for the prospective
customer. Actually made a brilliant discovery. Even if I triple click
home and VoiceOver comes on once I power off the erased phone and power
it back on again VoiceOver will not come back on. Superb job Apple!

This is why I don’t use shout cast on nice cast. I could never get it to work,
or it would say not connected but I would be transmitting anyway. I use ice
cast instead, or did when I was broadcasting. It was and still is unreliable.
did you make sure the mount point was not filled in not that itwoudl matter.
but just in case? I would try reading the server and see if that helps.

Good luck.

may have asked this before

2013-11-24 Thread meadowlark77
Hello y'all,

I may have asked this before, but just in case I haven't, well, here
goes.

Can we move books in voice dream from one folder to another? For
example, I'd like to make a folder where all the bookshare gbooks and stuff
go, instead of having to see all items individually. I realize you can
search for what you're looking for, that is, if you know what you're looking
for. But how about if you don't know and you're just wanting a book to read?
I don't want to have to go through all items. Just want a folder called
Other Books or something like that, and want to move all those bookshare
books and gutenberg books and stuff like that into it. Can that be done on
the iPhone5 in Voice Dream? If no one knows, is there a voice dream list we
can go on and ask questions?

Thanks in advance,

Brenda

Yeah, I rebooted the server. No go. Are you saying that Icecast was
reliable where shoutcast wasn't, or are you saying even Icecast wasn't. I
can try getting an Icecast server, if you think it's worth it, but I hear
that doesn't really work either.

This is why I don't use shout cast on nice cast. I could never get it to
work, or it would say not connected but I would be transmitting anyway. I
use ice cast instead, or did when I was broadcasting. It was and still is
unreliable. did you make sure the mount point was not filled in not that
itwoudl matter. but just in case? I would try reading the server and see if
that helps.

Jabra 2 HD Voice Hands Free Speaker

2013-11-24 Thread Dane Trethowan
Bought one of these yesterday so thought I'd give the list some idea of what it
does.

Firstly the Jabra 2 - although its designed for in car use - can be used on a
desk or anywhere without any issues.

The speaker has a mounting clip at the back which allows mounting to a sun
viser or similar in a car though this can be used to mount the speaker to a
shelf or similar depending on the users needs.

Setup is very straight forward and you will be given specific instructions via
a voice guideance system as soon as the speaker is charged and powered on.

First thing I did was to try to issue Siri commands to an IOS device, I had no
problems whatever with this but then again I shouldn't have worried given that
this phone is HD Voice Compatible and uses Bluetooth 4.

The Speaker works equally well with Facetime though I haven't as yet tried it
with Skype.

If Hd Voice is part of your mobile phone network then you're in for a treat
with the Jabra 2 speaker as the Speaker can take full advantage of the HD Voice
calls thus bringing the conversation to life as though you were in a room with
the other party.

We did some noise tests, I spoke to a plumber both in his van and outside
working and the HD Voice system handed noise cancelation quite well. What is
even more remarkable is how the noise cancelation system works even if loud
volume is applied to the Jabra 2

The Speaker has few buttons, a button on the speaker when pressed brings up
your iPhone's Siri and when held down allows you to access voice commands to
control the Jabra 2 Speaker system, What Can I Say will have the Speaker
speak a list of commands that can be issued for Speaker control.

At the top of the Speaker is a button marked by a tactile line which is used to
end a call but when in Standby reports the status of the Jabra 2, how much
talk time is available and so on. As far as I know when the Jabra 2 is charged
20 hours of talk time is available.

The power on/off toggle switch is on the left and a mute button is on the right
though I'm not sure if the mute button does anything whilst the Jabra 2 is in
Standby mode.

When on a call and the mute button is pressed the microphone is muted but the
sound of the call can still be heard through the speaker, a beep is sounded
every 30 seconds to remind you that you have the mute button enabled.

A cigarette lighter to USB adapter comes with the device as well as a standard
USB to micro USB cable so you can easily charge the Jabra 2 with your iPhone's
charger and so on.

I'm sure to discover more about the Jabra 2 as I continue playing and I'm yet
to even start looking at the instruction manual.

I found this product in the Apple Store using the Apple Store IOS app.

naturally the streaming of music is also supported to this device.

new key stroke for adding to the doc in mavericks.?

Bleh! Ok! I taught that to add an item to the doc it’s cmd shift t. This holds

Setup is very straight forward and you will be given specific instructions
via a voice guideance system as soon as the speaker is charged and powered on.

First thing I did was to try to issue Siri commands to an IOS device, I had
no problems whatever with this but then again I shouldn't have worried given
that this phone is HD Voice Compatible and uses Bluetooth 4.

The Speaker works equally well with Facetime though I haven't as yet tried it
 with Skype.

If Hd Voice is part of your mobile phone network then you're in for a treat
with the Jabra 2 speaker as the Speaker can take full advantage of the HD
Voice calls thus bringing the conversation to life as though you were in a
 room with the other party.

At the top of the Speaker is a button marked by a tactile line which is used
to end a call but when in Standby reports the status of the Jabra 2, how
much talk time is available and so on. As far as I know when the Jabra 2 is
charged 20 hours of talk time is available.

The power on/off toggle switch is on the left and a mute button is on the
right though I'm not sure if the mute button does anything whilst the Jabra 2
 is in Standby mode.

When on a call and the mute button is pressed the microphone is muted but the
sound of the call can still be heard through the speaker, a beep is sounded
every 30 seconds to remind you that you have the mute button enabled.

A cigarette lighter to USB adapter comes with the device as well as a
standard USB to micro USB cable so you can easily charge the Jabra 2 with
your iPhone's charger and so on.

I'm sure to discover more about the Jabra 2 as I continue playing and I'm yet
to even start looking at the instruction manual.

I found this product in the Apple Store using the Apple Store IOS app.

naturally the streaming of music is also supported to this device.

I thought you did ask it but I have since cleaned out the folder where I
store this list. I think I remember you couldn’t, but I’d wait until you got
a second opinion just in case I goofed up.

 Hello y'all,

 goes.

Can we move books in voice dream from one folder to another? For
example, I'd like to make a folder where all the bookshare gbooks and
 stuff
go, instead of having to see all items individually. I realize you can
search for what you're looking for, that is, if you know what you're
 looking
for. But how about if you don't know and you're just wanting a book to
 read?
I don't want to have to go through all items. Just want a folder called
Other Books or something like that, and want to move all those bookshare
books and gutenberg books and stuff like that into it. Can that be done on
the iPhone5 in Voice Dream? If no one knows, is there a voice dream list
 we
can go on and ask questions?

 Thanks in advance,

Re: Jabra 2 HD Voice Hands Free Speaker

2013-11-24 Thread Dane Trethowan
I'm amazed at what this unit is able to do for its small size, sound is
incredibly crisp and clear.

This has been discussed on list before so I hope people don't mind if I repeat
a few things.

If you plan to use Siri then you have to be very careful about the Bluetooth
device you buy to pair with your IOS device as many just don't have the Band
Width required for Siri to work correctly.

I've looked at quite a few different Hands Free Speakers and many are still
using the Bluetooth 2.0 or 2.1 standards. Whilst this will suffice reasonably
well for music streaming its no good whatever for HD Voice communication,
Facetime or Siri, the clarity of the human voice just isn't available to use.

Moving books to folders in Voice Dream Reader [was Re: may have asked this before]

2013-11-24 Thread Esther
Hi Brenda,
To move books in Voice Dream Reader from one folder to another,
1. From the All Items home screen, double tap the Folders button in the top
left corner.
2. On the Folders screen, flick to the folder you wish to move books from and
double tap. (I usually have these outside of folders on the All Items screen
and start from there. If you already have folders you set up, and just want to
move books into them, you can skip all the earlier steps and just start at step
3.)
3. Double tap the Edit button in the top right corner.
3a. Flick through your books and double tap to select entries. There is also a
Select all button in the bottom left corner, and an Unread button 1 flick
to the right of it.
3b. When you are finished selecting items, double tap the Move to button that
is the 3rd of 4 buttons at the bottom of the screen. (The 4th button is
Delete).
4. On the Move to screen, flick to the folder you wish to move your books to,
and double tap. If you need to create a new folder, navigate to the Add
button at the top of the screen, just right of the Move To screen heading,
and double tap.
4a. A new folder with the default name of Folder will be created at the end
of the list under My Folders, and focus will be at the end of the text field
for that name with the on-screen keyboard enabled.
4b. Give the folder a new name, e.g. Other Books, and double tap the Done
button in the bottom right corner to dismiss the keyboard.
4c. Double tap the Done button in the top right corner to leave folder
editing mode.
4d. Double tap the new folder you created to select it as the Move to folder.

You can also reorder or delete folders when you are in editing mode. The
reorder button is to the right of each folder entry. When focus is on this
button, do a double tap and hold anywhere on the screen. Without lifting you
finger from the screen, move the entry up or down to the position you want
before releasing. The delete switch button is to the left of each folder
entry. When you double tap delete, focus will be on a Confirm deletion
button. To avoid deleting the entry, either flick left back to the delete
switch button and double tap it again to toggle it off, or double tap the
Done button in the top right corner of the screen to exit editing mode
altogether.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: Moving books to folders in Voice Dream Reader [was Re: may have asked this before]

2013-11-24 Thread Esther
Hi Sarah,

Maybe the quick conceptual way to describe moving books to different folders is
that any actions that involve moving or deleting items in Voice Dream Reader
requires you to be in Edit mode in that folder or screen. When that occurs,
the buttons at the bottom of the screen change from ones that deal with the
reading and display of the current folder's contents to buttons used to select
all, move to another folder, or delete.

Apart from that, you only need to know how to navigate to folders from the
default All Items home screen (using the Folders button in the top left
corner to go to a Folders screen that lists your folders), and how to create
new folders. You can either create new folders with the Add button on the
Folders screen, or, if you started moving books and suddenly realized that you
never created a the new folder to hold them, by using a similar Add button at
the top of the Move To screen.

Adding new folders automatically puts you in edit mode, since many people want
to be able to specify a name. If you just want to take the default value, and
deal with renaming later, when you're on the Move To screen after double
tapping add at the top of the screen, just double tap Done at the bottom
right corner (to exit the on screen keyboard) and then Done at the top right
corner (to exit edit mode). Then do a four-finger tap on the bottom half of
the screen to go to your last folder (which will be named Folder), and double
tap to move the contents there.

The instructions only get long when there was no previously created folder. In
most cases, there are already folders, and you just select the one you want to
move to on the Move To screen.

Also, I probably should have left out the general editing information at the
end of the instructions, but they're included just in case somebody needs to
know how to delete or reorder folders. I suppose that we can assume that
anyone who wants to change folder locations already knows how to navigate to
folders in Voice Dream Reader, but the instructions are stuck in there for
completeness in case someone creates a folder they later want to get rid of.

The only part of the explanation that I remember for myself is the need to go
to Edit mode in the starting location, so that selecting items allows me to
use a Move to button at the bottom of the screen.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Jabra Tour review - Bluetooth hands-free car kit

2013-11-24 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

I found a review of the new Hands Free Speakerphone I've been talking about.

I agree with pretty much everything the review states however my testing with
Sire on this device is somewhat different from the results the reviewer
achieved. I've had no problems whatever but then again there could be reasons
for our differing results, this review was done a while ago and a firmware
update may have been released since the time of the review. It also may be
that the environments in which we've done our respective testing could have
vastly different noise levels and so on.

I also stand corrected again smile as this device is not a Bluetooth 4 unit
rather a Bluetooth 3.0 unit but still performance is pretty good as you'll see.

askedthis before]

Hi Brenda,
To move books in Voice Dream Reader from one folder to another,
1. From the All Items home screen, double tap the Folders button in the
top left corner.
2. On the Folders screen, flick to the folder you wish to move books from
and double tap. (I usually have these outside of folders on the All Items
screen and start from there. If you already have folders you set up, and
just want to move books into them, you can skip all the earlier steps and
just start at step 3.)
3. Double tap the Edit button in the top right corner.
3a. Flick through your books and double tap to select entries. There is
also a Select all button in the bottom left corner, and an Unread button
1 flick to the right of it.
3b. When you are finished selecting items, double tap the Move to button
that is the 3rd of 4 buttons at the bottom of the screen. (The 4th button is
Delete).
4. On the Move to screen, flick to the folder you wish to move your books
to, and double tap. If you need to create a new folder, navigate to the
Add button at the top of the screen, just right of the Move To screen
heading, and double tap.
4a. A new folder with the default name of Folder will be created at the
end of the list under My Folders, and focus will be at the end of the text
field for that name with the on-screen keyboard enabled.
4b. Give the folder a new name, e.g. Other Books, and double tap the
Done button in the bottom right corner to dismiss the keyboard.
4c. Double tap the Done button in the top right corner to leave folder
editing mode.
4d. Double tap the new folder you created to select it as the Move to
folder.

You can also reorder or delete folders when you are in editing mode. The
reorder button is to the right of each folder entry. When focus is on
this button, do a double tap and hold anywhere on the screen. Without
lifting you finger from the screen, move the entry up or down to the
position you want before releasing. The delete switch button is to the
left of each folder entry. When you double tap delete, focus will be on a
Confirm deletion button. To avoid deleting the entry, either flick left
back to the delete switch button and double tap it again to toggle it
off, or double tap the Done button in the top right corner of the screen
to exit editing mode altogether.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Radium for the Mac

2013-11-24 Thread Orin
Hi all,
I just needed to mention that if you happen to be a fan of internet radio, you
might want to go purchase Radium. Better yet, get it on iOS today, since it’s
free for a few more hours. If you are a Sirius XM subscriber, it is by far the
best way to listen to Sirius XM on both Mac and iOS, though keep the Sirius app
for those times when you want on-demand. Everything is driven by the keyboard,
though I wish there was an accessible way to import external stations from a
playlist file if you can’t remember the URL.
Enjoy!

Paprika Recipe Manager Mac and iOS Apps on Sale for Thanksgiving

2013-11-24 Thread Esther
Hi All,

The Paprika Recipe Manager is on sale for about half the regular price in
celebration of (U.S.) Thanksgiving. This is probably my favorite recipe app
for iOS, because of the way it lets you find and import recipes from many top
recipe sites around the world, import your own recipes, and use the meal
planner and shopping tools to sync with the Paprika app across all iOS devices
and Mac apps (and Android devices with the Paprika app, if you have it) via the
cloud.

Paprika will also let you import recipe formats from other popular Mac recipe
apps (like MacGourmet, Sous-Chef, Yummy Soup)

usually lists for $4.99) by Hindsight Labs, LLC

and portability of shopping lists.

Try the link from the AppleVis page for the Mac app:

Re: Paprika Recipe Manager Mac and iOS Apps on Sale for Thanksgiving

2013-11-24 Thread Esther
Hi Dane,

There are separate versions of Paprika Recipe Manager for the iPhone (and iPod
Touch), iPad, and the Mac. You might not see the app come up for your iPhone
if you're running iOS 6. But in that case you should be able to purchase the
app from iTunes on your computer, and then download the latest version of the
app for your operating system directly onto your iPhone. That's the May 2013
version, I think, and it's perfectly accessible.

The layout of the app uses the area of the iPad screen, so I think it was a
different enough design problem to warrant a separate app.

I'm a little less panicked now, because I realize these apps should stay on
sale at least through Thanksgiving (this Thursday). I was trying to find a
blog article stating how long this would be on sale, and came across an old
entry that said it would be through Sunday (meaning that last year it was four
or five days, since they didn't put it on sale until just before
Thanksgiving.). Thinking that it would only be on sale until tonight didn't
make much sense.

So anyone who wants to ask more about these apps at leisure, go right ahead.

Cheers,

Esther

iPod Touch), iPad, and the Mac. You might not see the app come up for your
iPhone if you're running iOS 6. But in that case you should be able to
purchase the app from iTunes on your computer, and then download the latest
version of the app for your operating system directly onto your iPhone.
That's the May 2013 version, I think, and it's perfectly accessible.

The layout of the app uses the area of the iPad screen, so I think it was a
different enough design problem to warrant a separate app.

I'm a little less panicked now, because I realize these apps should stay on
sale at least through Thanksgiving (this Thursday). I was trying to find a
blog article stating how long this would be on sale, and came across an old
entry that said it would be through Sunday (meaning that last year it was
four or five days, since they didn't put it on sale until just before
Thanksgiving.). Thinking that it would only be on sale until tonight didn't
 make much sense.

So anyone who wants to ask more about these apps at leisure, go right ahead.

 Cheers,

 Esther

Well actually I'm at fault yet again smile, I was looking to see whether
my iPhone had downloaded my purchase of the IOS App and then I realised that
only an iPad version was available, I'm not using an iPad right now as I'm
waiting to purchase an iPad Air but the application has certainly been
purchased so yes, both IOS and Mac versions are now owned by me and both are
available in Australia so sorry about all the unnecessary trouble I've put
 you through in checking.

Okay, downloaded the Mac App and this is odd because - as you say - the Mac
App is available in Australia but not the IOS app.
