Hey you guys,
Does anybody know the direct link to get pages on the App Store? There's
at least ten thousand pages, and I need the exact link.

Thanks in advance,

Re: Logitech Bluetooth UE Boombox, I Eat My Words

2014-03-17 Thread Dane Trethowan
Okay, that's a different model from the UE Boombox I've described which has a
button, a slider switch and 2 sockets on the left and the volume up/down on the
right with no buttons or switches on the top or back.

Does this sound like the same thing? When I pare, it does show up as
logitech U E mobile boombox, but, I tell you, nowhere at all do I see a steel
handle on the top. What am I missing?

Do they have multiple models of the U E mobile boombox? Unless I'm just
dumb, I don't see a steel handle. Mine simply has the speaker grill then
all around it is a rubber piece which the grill is seated inside. I don't
think the rubber piece can be removed. It looks permanently glued to the
speaker. On the top however of the rubber piece are little indentions for
your buttons vol down, discover mode which is a big round button in the
center you hold in for a few seconds, then volume up. On the back of the
one I have is the micro USB charger, and a two-way slider switch to turn the
unit on. When you power it up, you hear an electric guitar D mager chord
being strummed, then once it connects, you hear that same guitar very
quickly and very staccato striking that same D chord, to confirm. The model
I have comes in a few different colors: yellow, blue, black, red which is
what mine is, and I think maybe gray, and maybe silver. In the states, I
paid about $99 for mine. Does this sound like the same thing? When I pare,

Logitech Bluetooth UE Boombox, I Eat My Words

2014-03-17 Thread Dane Trethowan
Yes I eat my words, after my previous experience with a Logitech Boombox system
I made it clear that I'd never ever purchase another Logitech Boombox again,
that product had serious design flaws.

I'm now in the possession of a Logitech UE Bluetooth Boombox and I have to
admit that the sound out of this unit - given its small compact boombox size -
is quite stunning.

No, the UE Boombox isn't the standard of some of the other pieces of equipment
I have here but nor should one expect this given the price tag associated with
the unit.

The Boombox can handle up to 8 pieces of equipment paired at the same time, you
might for instance take the UE Boombox to a party where you and your friends
can take it in terns to play their favorite tracks.

Build quality of the UE Boombox isn't lacking in any department, just damn good
quality throughout with a nice metal grill all around for the speakers and a
steel handle on the top.

UE by the way stands for Ultimate Ears, you may have heard of the Ultimate Ears
brand of headphones. In 2008 Logitech acquired the Ultimate Ears company and
have since used the branding on many Logitech products, the Ultimate Ears Radio
for example.

An Ultimate Ears Logitech Air Speaker is also available which is supposed to
sound even better than the Boombox described here.

Re: Item Chooser turning VO off

2014-03-17 Thread Zachary Kline
Hi,
THis is a VoiceOver crash, and should not be happening. might I suggest using
the web rotor instead? It’s a sortable list of the elements on a web page, and
more focused than the Item CHooser. Try it with cmd-u.
That being said, I’d report this one to Apple Accessibility. I don’t use the
Item CHoose at all myself, but I’m sure they’ll want to know about it. Their
adress is accessibil...@apple.com.
Best,
Zack.

Re: Item Chooser turning VO off

2014-03-17 Thread Sarah k Alawami
What it is is a voice over crash. I've had this happen before but it's rare.
Can you maybe just find he text you are looking for by typing it in the box
when you hit vo f, then hitting vo g until you get to the text, or if the site
is well layer out you can navigate by heading with the vo cmd h and vo cmd
shift h. vo cmd m for same level you just hit and vo shift cmd m for the
previous same heading you were just on.

Take care.

Item Chooser turning VO off

2014-03-17 Thread Kristeen Hughes
When I am in Safari, not all but some times, if I want to use the item chooser,
I will press vo+i and after a short time of busy, the Mac will say, "welcome to
Mac OS 10; Voiceover is running." There is no item chooser list. I'm not sure
if it makes a difference how many items are on a page, but I think the more
items, the more likely it is to happen. Does anyone know why this is happening?
It makes dealing with some very important sites on the web very difficult.

Thanks in advance.

Can't get some mail on Mac

2014-03-17 Thread Juaanita Marttin
Since this morning, I am not receiving all my mail on the MacBook Air. I am
getting gmail on it, and all mail from both accounts on the phone. I can also
receive mail on the Windows laptop. I haven’t changed any settings that I know
of. I went into system preferences and I found that one of the internet
accounts could not receive mail. I was asked to enter the password for that
account which I did. The password was not recognized. What do I try next?
I also restarted the Mac but that didn’t solve the problem. I can send mail
from the account, I just can’t receive mail.

Re: Updating HP Wireless Printer Software for Mavericks [was Re: Printing wireless with Mac]

2014-03-17 Thread Esther
Hello Juanita,

According to HP, all you need to do is run Apple's software update to get
printer drivers for Mavericks. If your computer is not having any trouble
seeing the new router and downloading software updates, then after running
software update from Apple, you just need to follow the procedures for
replacing the router being used for the printer at the URL:
http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/wireless-printing-center/reconfiguring-system-help3.html

With those instructions you should either be able to use the original software
CD, or to use setup software that is built into the printer's hardware control
panel to set the new network. (This is the part that is not accessible, with no
spoken feed back on the device control panel or indication where the control
buttons are located.)

Good luck. Best,

Esther

Re: Giraffe Reader

2014-03-17 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Leo,

Here’s the e-mail address for Sam Jewell:
>> sam.jew...@gmail.com

The Giraffe Reader is not as good as the StandScan Pro as it doesn’t have its
own lighting. However, it can be used in situations where the StandScan would
not be feasible, such as in a restaurant to read the menu. The Giraffe Reader
is much smaller to carry, takes up less space when erected and only weighs 70 g.

The Giraffe Reader could be very helpful to anyone who has trouble positioning
the iPhone to take pictures of text. I have both the StandScan Pro and the
Giraffe Reader and consider them complementary.

Cheers,

Anne

It may be easier for her to just update the software. After all, it is her

She said something about a control yesterday when she was trying to set up the

I ask because I have seen instances where if the currently logged in
user was not running VO when the computer went to sleep, and you wake
the computer up and are at the password prompt to log back in, Cmd+F5
does not work. But if you type in the password blindly, and press
enter and you hear the confirmation tone, then you should be able to
start VO with Cmd+F5 for sure.
 Good luck.

2014-03-17 Thread Esther
Hello Juanita,

For VoiceOver on the MacBook Pro, if Command-F5 or Fn-Command-F5 does not work,
you may need your daughter to set up a separate account for you, so VoiceOver
can be configured to come up automatically, or else have her configure the
system preference settings under Accessibility for her account, so that you can
easily bring up VoiceOver with Command-F5. As others have said, you may need
to know where you are in the login process to get VoiceOver to turn on.

You asked:
We have a wireless HP printer and two Macs. We recently got a new router.
Since then, we have not been able to print wirelessly. I know it has to do
with changing the network name. How do you change the network name and
password. The printer is trying to use our old info. My sighted daughter will
be the one setting this up. We tried to run the software from disc but it
doesn't support 10.9.

For the HP-specific part of your question, there are support web pages on
updating the printer drivers for Mavericks using Apple's Software Update, and
also on replacing a router for their wireless printers. Since the release of
Mavericks, HP has been distributing drivers through Apple's Software Update.
I've read that for some all-in-one printers the Scanner drivers do not yet
resolve issues with Scanning that is done without using the HP-specific
software.

Here is the link for OS X v10.9 Mavericks: Installing and Using the Printer on
a Mac:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03967522&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en

HP has an instruction page on replacing a router for their wireless printers:
http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/wireless-printing-center/reconfiguring-system-help3.html

After navigating to "heading level 2 Replacing Your Wireless Router", navigate
to the in-page link for "Changing wireless settings" and activate it (double
tap on an iOS device or VO-Space on a Mac). Note that they say you may have to
unplug the power cord from your modem and wait at least 30 minutes for the
modem to reset. If you have difficulties you might have to set the device up
as though it were a new printer, by connecting with an ethernet cable directly
to the modem of your Internet Service Provider. Also, some HP printers like
their newer AirPrint printers may have a Wireless Setup Wizard that can be
accessed from the printer's control panel. That process is not accessible,
but your daughter should be able to run this, if necessary.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Yes, there are hotkeys for zoomtext mac. Google is your friend. A quick search

 Hi!
Also to help you can turn on single key navigation!
And lots of keys do things like H, for headings and 1,2, 3 through to
6 will move through heading levels 1 to 6!
If that is useful to you!
 Hi!
OK 1, open Voice over utility VO+f8.
2, then press command+8 to take you to commanders.
3 Arrow across to quickNav tab and select it.
4, There you will find the check box to start single key navigation
and a button to show info about what key does what!

Re: Printing wireless with Mac

Hi, if she tells you where you are on the computer that may help. If you are
somewhere like in the desk top you should be fine, but if she has already set a
password on the mac it will be a little tougher for you to get VO to work if
she didn’t enable voice over to work on the lock screen when she set it up.

You can do that in the view mini, yes, even set up a keyboard hsotcut, but I
would not recommend doing this. it would just make a big mess of things and
probably take up mor system resources then I care to know at this point in time.

take care.

I have no clue as to where I am in the log in process. This is my sighted
daughter's computer and VO hasn't been tried on it until this morning. I will
tell her to update the software though.

Great Colin, much appreciate that. Like you I have a button there but will
leave alone and take other advice given re exploring what the commands do

Ok Sorry Chris I'm not sure what OS your running but On mine running
Mountain Kitty there is a button but it is to see what keys are active and
if needed a option to add new ones!

And Eleanor!
There is need to do anything unless one of the keys are not doing what it
is supposed too!
But a good way to see the options without messing with the key settings is
to open VO+HH and arrow down to Quick Nav and go into that menu and all
the keys are listed and what they do!

HTH Colin.

To use the rotor press up-left arrows or up-right arrows together until it
says words or characters. To navigate simply use the up or down arrow
keys, not together but individually.

You can turn quicknav on and off anywhere but especially on web pages
where navigation is far more logical. Give it a try and you'll see
what I mean. Quicknam can also provide keys to navigate to various web
elements but these are off by default but can be turned on in
VoiceOver Utility, commanders, quicknav tab.

Whenever you lock the VoiceOver keys they remain so until you unlock
them. Whether this is reset when restarting VoiceOver I do not know.
To save even more keystrokes why not toggle quicknav on and off with
left-right. You then just use arrow keys for navigation.

Re: Printing wireless with Mac

2014-03-17 Thread Rodney Haynie
When you tried the Cmd+F5 to start VO on the Macbook Pro were you at
the password prompt of the loging/wake-up screen?
I ask because I have seen instances where if the currently logged in
user was not running VO when the computer went to sleep, and you wake
the computer up and are at the password prompt to log back in, Cmd+F5
does not work. But if you type in the password blindly, and press
enter and you hear the confirmation tone, then you should be able to
start VO with Cmd+F5 for sure.
Good luck.

need to delete a dropbox folder out of Voice Dream

2014-03-17 Thread meadowlark77
Hello y'all,

I have a strange question. I had a folder that corrupted in dropbox and
had to delete it. So, it went off my phone. But when I regained my purchases
and all and could restore Voice Dream to my iPad Mini, that folder is
mentioned in Voice Dream, as my default dropbox folder that I decided to put
my books into. How do I delete it out of Voice Dream, when it is no longer
in Dropbox? For some reason, it did not default to the present folder that
my books from bookshare or gutenberg would go into.

Thanks in advance,

Brenda

Actually, it isn't necessary to install Xcode, though it does give you
dashboard which organizes the plist files nicely, and let's you see
what goes where.
These plist files are plain text files. Simply open them in text edit
or something similar, and edit away. Just be sure not to overwrite
any of the xml tags, or the settings won't be understood by vo, and
all your hard work would be in vane.

2014-03-17 Thread Red.Falcon
Ok Sorry Chris I'm not sure what OS your running but On mine running Mountain
Kitty there is a button but it is to see what keys are active and if needed a
option to add new ones!

And Eleanor!
There is need to do anything unless one of the keys are not doing what it is
supposed too!
But a good way to see the options without messing with the key settings is to
open VO+HH and arrow down to Quick Nav and go into that menu and all the keys
are listed and what they do!

To use the rotor press up-left arrows or up-right arrows together until
it says words or characters.

Whenever you lock the VoiceOver keys they remain so until you unlock

To save even more keystrokes why not toggle quicknav on and off with
left-right. You then just use arrow keys for navigation.

RE: Beginner's Clarification On Voice Over Keys

2014-03-17 Thread David Griffith
That is it precisely.
Remember also that you can interact with quick nav down and right arrow.
Un interact down and left arrow.
Up and down arrow together is the same as vo space.

However The voiceover lock keys are useful if you are also using lots of
other voiceover commands in a sequence of tasks as well as navigation. For
example a powerful feature of Voiceover is its ability to copy not just text
but any content spoken through Voiceover . you may repeatedly want to use VO
C to copy last phrase spoken to clipboard. This becomes simply shift C.
Also it helps if you are doing lots of virtual mouse clicks then you can use
shift spacebar rather than shift vo spacebar. However for straightforward
navigation purposes Quick Nav is far simpler and far more powerful on the
web.

Re: Beginner's Clarification On Voice Over Keys

2014-03-17 Thread Chris Apple boy
I'm saying that yes. But quicknav is only for navigation hence the name.
I also forgot to mention that with quicknav turned on you can use the
VoiceOver rotor from the keyboard and for example navigate by words or
characters even if it's text you can't manipulate. It's just so awesome
and makes using the mac overall a breeze as I can just use it one handed
thanks to quicknav.

OK now I am not quite following you Chris, I know about quick nav but

to know when I have to have it on and when to turn it off by trial and
error or can you give me a rule of thumb about it?

Whenever you lock the VoiceOver keys they remain so until you unlock
them. Whether this is reset when restarting VoiceOver I do not know.
To save even more keystrokes why not toggle quicknav on and off with
left-right. You then just use arrow keys for navigation.

Re: Adium as of today

2014-03-17 Thread Chris Apple boy
It's sorted now thanks to my own messing. Turned out I had it speak when
contact returns from away and or idle causing it to say "contact become
active" which I didn't really want. What I'd like to see though is the
ability to preview what will be spoken for that event. It's all very
well having it speak the event aloud but what will it actually say? We
don't know till it actually happens. Now as for sounds they play just
fine in the events table. Otherwise I like it and consider using it full
time if I choose not to use Skype.

How is Adium as of today? The last time I used it it was ok but didn't
like the system voice announcing when someone is connected then
online. If they're connected then to me they're online or in some
other status other than offline so don't need to know whether they're
connected as well as their actual status. As a result I gave up on it.
Any comments greatly appreciated.

Adium I use all the time. I have it set up so when a new chat comes in
from a different person, I am alerted. Since I can have up to 5 to 8
conversations going a time. It is important I know who has just
updated or
pinged me. No other IM does this sort of thing.

It is all configurable and is one of the best IM chats on the market.
