Odd works here for me. I'd contact the vienna devs and see what's going on.
The folks are very helpful in the forums. I've been using it now for about 1-2
years and love it.

2014-07-17 Thread David Griffith
It is definitely not security related as I have installed several non app
store apps without any problem. For some reason Vienna just does not respond
and open on my iMac when I try to open it.
I rare-downloaded the app but that did not help.

I reinstalled Mavericks this morning for other reasons and in general
everything is quite snappy and working well at the moment apart from Vienna
so I guess I just have to give it a miss.

Re: Focus Blu now Connecting Via Bluetooth

2014-07-17 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Eleanor,

All the commands that are programmed into your Braille display show up in a
table when you click the Assign Commands… button in the VoiceOver Utility,
category Braille, Displays tab. You can add VoiceOver commands if you find that
you need to. To find the table, just press VO-Down Arrow after clicking the Add
button.

The Status cells give all kinds of information. Each dot has a function, and if
you enable the Status cells, you can read about them when you press the router
button above the cell. Dots 7 and 8 in the first cell show the direction in
which panning can go on the current line. So, if both 7 and 8 are shown, you
are somewhere in the middle of a line. If only dot 8 is shown, you’re at the
beginning of the line so you can only move right.

Status cell 2 shows such things as bold, italic, underscore, etc.

I can’t remember what cell 3 does, but if you enable it, you can press the
router button above it and read what it says.

I have a Focus 14 Blue, so I’m disinclined to use up 3 cells.

I don’t normally use my Focus 14 with my Mac, I got it for my iPhone, mostly
for reading books. I use a Braillino with my Mac.

Cheers,

Anne

OK Ann, making progress, now what do the following mean in display,
show general display status status cells unchecked (I unchecked this as I
was tryhing to remove clutter). Maybe I need it!
show text style status cells unchecked (is this to do with bold, italic and
underline)?

show extended text style status cells unchecked
Left show status on v
right show status on v
display alert messages, I have put this to off at present.

Many thanks.

Hello Eleanor,

In VoiceOver Utility, go down to the second from last category which is
Braille. Select Layout. You’ll find several check boxes such as Use 8-dot
Braille, and others. Then select the Verbosity category and select Braille.
Set Braille verbosity to either low or medium.

2014-07-17 Thread Eleanor Martha Burke
Well my problem is even a bit more basic than that David. when connected by
usb the focus blue 40 is there and when I unplugged the usb to connect via
bluetooth, it seemed to be there because I had an option to remove it in the
bt section, yet there was no communication between the braille display and
the mac.

It is definitely possible but I have no personal experience . I understand
from other posters that the pairing process is tricky as Apple give so
little time to complete the pairing. A lot of people have had to resort to
sighted help.
I did see someone post who said that they succeeded in getting to the
right

part of the screen fast enough by using item chooser and typing focus.

Is there a podcast on connecting braille display? I am still not happy
about some things like when on the Finder I am having 8 cells displayed and
though I have my vo set to low the braille keeps changing with every
announcement, e.g. you are currently on... I have looked at the Braille Tab
but I do not understand all the options in it so would appreciate if there
is a focusblu 40 user on list and if you could give me some pointers please.

You can disable wigits and the dash board completely in system prefs,
keyboard, then shortcuts, then highlight the mission control tab. I'm
doing this from memory so it might not be there, now just uncheck
everything and you should be good to go.
