I was just looking at installing Vienna when I was presented with Mac update
desktop 6 which sounds easier to download apps. Are there any pros or cons to
downloading apps using desktop 6.
Many thanks Judy

[Mac-access]: Finally installed Windows on the MacBook Pro

2015-05-02 Thread Brian Hartgen
Hi

Following my earlier message, I went ahead and installed Windows on the Mac
this morning and got JAWS installed and activated. This was done as a
virtual machine.

While there are work arounds for the keyboard which I can carry out, what I
cannot live with is the occasional dropout in audio. Sometimes, the screen
reader will miss the first syllable of a word for example. I did allocate
what I thought was enough memory for the Windows side.

My questions are:
If I get a USB soundcard to connect to it, is this likely to resolve the
problem, or is this just one of the consequences of running it in a virtual
machine?
Is there a way of using the virtual machine configuration and convert it to
bootcamp instead or do I have to start over and install again from the DVD
media I have?

Thanks for any help.

Brian

Re: [Mac-access]: Finally installed Windows on the MacBook Pro

2015-05-02 Thread gs
Brian -
Is your VMWare Fusion updated to the most recent version? Unfortunately, JAWS
and Windows using a virtual machine isn't quite as good a performer as with
bootcamp. However, I really do not tend to encounter the issue you mention very
often at all. It did occur more frequently in the past but Fusion updates have
improved it.
I have tinkered with the amount of memory allocated to the VM and have found
that, for me, 4 GB works well. I have dedicated one processor core. This is on
a Macbook Air mid-2013 with 8 GB of total memory.

I am using VMWare Fusion Version 6.0.6 (2684343).

You have probably purchased version 7 since you are a new user, so this is
obviously going to be a difference.

[Mac-access]: BBC weather App on IOS 8.3.

2015-05-02 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I am running IOS 8.3 on my iPhone 5S. I really like the BBC weather App which
worked perfectly on earlier IOS releases but does not work well on IOS 8.3.

In previous IOS releases I used to flick right with one finger across the list
of 10 days to hear the wether summary for that day. In IOS 8.3 this gesture
just lets me access the first 4 of the 10 days and I cannot see the data for
the other days. Similarly I used to double tap on the day summary to display an
hour by hour weather forecast for that day. I was able to flick right with one
finger to access the data for the whole day hour by hour. In IOS 8.3 I can only
access the first 4 hours in that way.

I am told that visually the extra hours and extra days are off the screen to
the right. Have the VoiceOver gestures changed in some way so that I have to
use a different gesture to access the whole 10 days and all the hourly
forecasts for the current day? Or is this an IOS 8.3 bug or maybe a BBC wether
App bug?

Many thanks for any tips.

You turn it on in the spelling dialogue. You check the check grammar and you

I do it this way. It installs it for you and then you can update *all* apps
that are on mac update and on your system. It's way too cool! and very

OK, but will this duplicate it to another DVD, keeping all the chapter marks
intact, all the root menus, all the sub menus, all the sub titles, all the
extras/hidden scenes, all the different aspect ratio settings if any, etc?
I'm literally wanting an exact! 1, hundred! percent duplication of the DVD.
I want the copy to be as if I'd gone out to Amazon or wherever and have
gotten a second copy.

I want the checksum of the DVD iso to be exact.

Chris.

Re: [Mac-access]: DVD Copier for the Mac

2015-05-02 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Actually, Handbrake encodes the video, plus, if it is a copy protected DVD
not only does it have to encode, but it also has to decode the incription as
well. One hour for a 3 hour long movie is actually not bad when you
consider. This means it's basically encoding at 3X. Even on my newer
system, when you say old, I'm not sure how old you mean of a system, but on
my mac mini mid 2012 running OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks, so not even Yosemite, and
16GB ram, with the Apple® USB aluminum Superdrive, it takes me about that
long for a 2 hour long DVD, but again, that's only encoding the DVD to
things like an AVI, or M4V, or .MPEG, etc. That's not what I, at least, am
wanting. I'm! literally wanting to make a 100 percent duplication.

Before anyone asks, why can't you just use a program that makes an exact CD
or DVD to CD or DVD copy? It's not that easy. If the movie's incrypted,
then, that isn't gonna work.

Chris.

Re: [Mac-access]: mac update desktop

2015-05-02 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
That's exactly what I did Sarah. This looks really really cool. The only
thing is, I tried upgrading to the $20 anual plan, but when I submitted my
card info, it pops back up and says "Application Error." My bank told me,
when I called them that it did indeed charge me. So, I'm not terribly
concerned, but I did open a ticket with Mac Access Support, as I need to be
sure that my account did indeed get upgraded. It's kind of hard looking
from the web site itself for me to determine if it did. Is there a surefire
way I could look once logged in to know?

Also, I never got an e-mail with my user name. I know the e-mail address I
registered with, but that's all. Yes, I did check spam/junkmail, and
nothing's there either. When I opened the ticket, they asked for my user
name, as well as asking for my E-mail address. I'm hoping that my user name
is! my e-mail address. That's what I typed into the form. I just typed the
same for both fields. I hope that will be sufficient for them to look me
up. LOL!

that can brake the digital fingerprint of a dve and clone it to antoehr dvd. I
can't remember what any of them are, at the moment but maybe macupdate might
be able to help you.

Take care.
