mavricks
Hi all, I finally upgraded the mac to Mavricks. Thus far, it seems to be running smoothly. One thing I knotice is when it starts up, it says finder and desktop and twice which is the norm as I have dropbox. But then it says finder busy finder ready. Do any of you get this and if so, is there a remedy? Do I need to make any changes say in preferences? Any tips would be greatly appreciated, otherwise, I find it seems to be a smooth ride. RE: iPad and pages
Hi all, I also have the iPad 3 and the iPhone. I use the iPad for music as I am deafblind and the larger speaker sounds so much basier. I also use the iPad for reading and I am thinking of putting pages on it. Does anyone know if the pages will work on the iPad and I can do documents and send via dropbox to computer to print? Zack, I am sorry, I don't know if I understand. Maybe I am making harder than what it should be, but after I add my music to my music folder in the mac, do I go to iTunes and go to file menu and arrow to add file to library. RE: advantage of an iPad over an iPhone?
Hi all, I have an iPad 3 and a beautiful iPhone 4S. I plan to use these 2 devices interchangeably with a braille display. I have cochlear implants and have some issues with continuly using artificial speech on both devices and mac and windows. I love my hearing ability, but I am so looking forward to working my devices quietly and preserving my listening abilities for conversations and phone conversations with family and friends. I am planning to use the services of Relay for businesses. I love the speaker on the iPad as it is a bit bigger than the iPhone, but I have my music on the iPad due to the fact that the speaker on it makes the sound of the music in lower tones than iPod touch. I like the iPhone for reading when I am out of the house. I usually don't take my iPad out the door. LOL! I also love reading on the iPad. Usually on both devices, I use the wonderfulness that is the Apple Wireless keyboard. I have the k800 Keyboard so I can use for both the iPhone and IPad. Yesterday I ordered a external battery power source which is very small and will give power to my iPhone when battery is running low. I got it through Verizon. Hugs and 73 Linda C. success
Hi Well, I lived to tell the story. LOL! I went into voiceover utilities and did some reassigning of command keys for the pac mate. I didn't like the fact right and left panning was done with whiz wheels. So I reassigned the first router button for right panning and the last router button on the right end for left panning just like it is for when i am using the pac mate with ordinary reading when the whole unit is together. So life is good. Yea! Hugs and 73 Linda C. the pac mate braille display woes.
Hi all, When i connect the pac mate to the mac, it recognizes it right away. I am not understanding how the router buttons work. I've read Chapter 10 of the vo getting started guide till i'm blue in the face. Also I am use to the advance buttons in panning. But it appears that the right whiz wheels up or down permit right or left panning, and i don't understand this either. I'm frustrated as i want to use the display but this panning or advancing with right hand and then reading with life hand is quite awkward. I have the pac mate with the qwerty keyboard. Can i plug the entire unit to the mac? The book says though that it supports the braille display only. I'm thinking of giving up, but what happens one day if my implants quit and i need to use the computer in silence. The pac mate is USB. No Bluetooth. Also, in another instance, I have a dbc braille Note MPower that is listed as supported and i can't get it to pair with my mac. It is bluetooth. and finally another question, Can i pair my mPower with my iPhone? and if so, how does this work. I tried to pair it yesterday and i couldn't get it to work or maybe i am missing something. So can anyone here rescue me? LOL! Hugs and 73 Linda C. a question about the inbox window in mail on the mac
Hi all, I have a brain freeze. For the life of me, I can't figure it out. When you open the mail program on the mac, you see the inbox. Ok, I was setting up art's email preferences and as I looked in his inbox Going up and down the list of email, I couldn't tell when the list began or ended. It just kept recycling through the messages. On my email list window I could go through my list and it would stop at the beginning and stop when I reached the bottom of the list. the calendar on the mac.
Hi all, I have two questions about the calendar on the mac. 1. In creating an event: For example, I am in September. Ok, I want to select next month; I activate the next month and interact with the October grid. I select Monday October 7 and I interact with it. Then I press command N and write in the event such as Lighthouse class at 2:00 pm. I press enter. I am now in inspector and I vo right till I see Event details scroll area. I then interact. Then I check what I want such as the time and alerts. Then I stop interacting and press done. I am now back in the calendar area. I then go check the date and event I just did. It still shows September 2 2013. What is the best way to enter events in another month instead of the current month? 2. What is the easiest way to delete an event that already happened? braille translation decision
Hi all, I said I would keep yall posted on what I do about the blazer and braille translation on the mac. First, I will use the mac for the internet when I get more comfident and i am using its calendar, calculator when needed and will do documents and printing them and other things. On the pc, I have Duxbury and I will do my braille translation and embossing via the pc. I just don't need complications as the blazer is quite old, but very faithful. So since I paid for Duxbury, it make lots of sense to use it and not make things more difficult. Thank you, Hugs and 73 Linda C. Hi all, I have a five page document on my screen in pages. It stops reading at the end of the first page. Is there a setting I can set pages to automatically wrap? I've looked everywhere and I must be missing something. Thank you Hugs and 73 Linda C. volume
Hi all, Well, I have another question. Thank you Anne Robertson for your instruction on the font. I was surely getting ready to tell it where to go. LOL! Now, I have a question on volume. I have my system preferences set to standard keyboard. Do I have to go into the menubar to find the volume and adjust as needed? Or does anyone have a suggestion of a different way. The F12 and F11 doesn't work since I made that change. Thank you, Hugs and 73 Linda C. question from a new member about settings on the mac.
Hi all, I discovered this list while researching vo keyboard shortcut commands through the internet. I am a new mac user and I am very excited. I have set up my email program and doing ok there. So I haven't scratched the surface. LOL! My husband also has a mac-he has the Macbook pro 13 and I have the iMac 25.5. I am interested in suggestions on mac settings themselves so I can make using the mac a bit more accessible. I've learned a lot about vo commands and there is lots to learn.
