Re: Keyboard Settings Not Saving
It will save properly once you have a monitor connected. It is a known issue with the Mac Mini. Robert Carter On Feb 22, 2013, at 12:47 PM, Harmony Neil harmony.n...@gmail.com wrote: I am, but going to get a different monitor tomorrow hopefully, because this one has the wrong connection and to get the correct adapter will cost more than the monitor i bought last weekend itself. I don't understand though, what does a monitor being connected have to do with the computer doing its job? I mean, I know it's a perifferal device (one that can be plugged in), but it isn't essential. Does it really speed the computer up and make it stop saying busy so much? Anyway, going back to the topic, I don't have a monitor plugged in right now, but still, pretty much all my other settings are saving. I have opened each of the Epub books with Adobe digital editions and there is no problems with the actual books as they display and read fine under Adobe. On Ibooks the only buttons I can hear are Not necessarily in this order. Edit Purchased Books Review Author Title Category Store None of these buttons reveal the non purchased books. I have also tried going to the store and looking under Library and again the only book available is the Purchased book. How is it possible to read a non purchased Epub book on the IPod using Ibooks? I am asked if I want to securely erase the trash. This is my personal preference so I let it go ahead. 3. I then get a window with the buttons remove unlocked files and remove all. 4. I click remove unlocked files. 5. It goes ahead and empties it for a while, but then I'm taken back to the Finder. The same is true if I have clicked remove all. But what concerns me is the window I described above, plus I have about 13,000 files in the trash, which just won't go away. Should I consider booting to the recovery partition, erasing the Macintosh Hd volume, then reinstall Mountain Lion from scratch? This is on a 2012 Macbook Pro 13 inch without Retina Display. Re: Audio Editors
Hi Lynne and list, I did a brief demo of editing with Sound Studio as a podcast. It is on my site which is http://www.dr-carter.com In short, to use VoiceOver with Sound Studio, you need to turn cursor tracking off. The spacebar will start the file playing and the comma will pause the file at the current playback position. The letter m will place a marker at the playback position. The option+left and right arrows will move backward or forward between markers. When you add the shift key, this will select the audio between marks. Finally, the number 1 key will scrub backward and the number 2 will scrub forward through the file. You need to be running the latest version of Sound Studio. Now I have a question for you, where do you get wave pad? Thanks, Robert Carter On Sep 23, 2012, at 5:58 AM, Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith ly...@mac-access.net wrote: Hello Robert You say you are using Sound Studio to edit your podcasts. We also wanted to make it known that another editor which we really really like, known as WavePad from NCH Software, an Australian based company, is also in our collection because to be honest, it is our editor of choice, even over Amadeus Pro. Gordon finds Amadeus Pro a bit irritating at times. WavePad uses conventional word processor-like commands, and best of all you can hear what you are selecting in real time. Anyway, there you are. Re: A Dilemma
Hi, If you are happy with the capabilities of the 4s today, it will likely retain those capabilities for the next two years. If, however, you think that you would really like to be able to take advantage of whatever capabilities the new phone might have that the 4s doesn't have, you should wait. My wife, for example, could care less about the new phone. She just wants a 4s so that she can have siri. I, on the other hand, am an early adopter and get really excited about being able to play with the latest and greatest. You just have to figure out what kind of personality you have and make your choice based on what is most important to you. My dilemma is this. I know the new iPhone is coming out soon. Should I wait for it, or should I go ahead and buy an iPhone 4s knowing that I will be buying into another 2-year contract? Has anyone heard of any compelling reasons to wait, given that my current phone, a Haven, is dropping calls and no longer holding a charge? My Apple friends are encouraging me to wait, and because the timing is so close, that approach makes perfect sense to me. On the other hand, my current phone is going down more and more each day and I don't have a land line. Have those of you who have the 4s been happy with it? Re: Dropbox install process not working
Hi, Last week, I installed Mountain Lion and reinstalled DropBox by going to the http://www.dropbox.com site and downloading the latest version of dropbox for the Mac. This is version 1.4.12. When this dmg is extracted, you now have a DropBox.app that you simply copy in to the applications folder and open with command+o. When I did this, I was prompted for my Username and password and all installed perfectly. Robert Carter On Aug 10, 2012, at 5:14 PM, Eric Caron eric_ca...@mac-access.net wrote: Hi Gordon, Thanks very much for your help with this Dropbox mystery. I repeated the steps again and this time restarted my computer. I then ran the Dropbox installer 1.5.8. Sadly it acted the same way. It never asked me if I had a account or needed to open one. It just did Dropbox has no windows. Earlier today before getting the tip to restart I had a sighted visitor so asked him to try. Even when he followed the sighted instructions it got to the point where it had no info and never asked for my user name and password. I used this same installer on my new Mac book Pro and the old Mac Book following the process and it worked fine. Any tips on what I can try with the Mini is appreciated. Everything else seems fine on the Mini at the moment. The Mountain Lion update was done only yesterday. I actually rely on DropBox so it is difficult not having it working on this machine. I'll probably try the 1.4 version again but don't think that will make a difference. Again, tips wanted! I tried both version 1.5 and 1.4. In all cases I got the dreaded Dropbox has no windows. I was never asked for my sign in criteria. New Tech Doctor Podcast
Hi All, There is a brand new Tech Doctor podcast at http://www.dr-carter.com Here are the show notes. During this hour, Robert has a fascinating conversation with, Jolie Mason, the founder and program director of the Los Angeles Radio Reading Service. The LA Reading Service can be heard world wide on an iOS app called a href=http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iblink-radio/id332027117?mt=8;iBlink Radio/a In addition to her radio reading service work, Jolie hosts a radio show on a Los Angeles radio station a href=http://www.kpfk.org;KPFK/a The show is called Access Unlimited and can be heard online by going to the KPFK site. Jolie is an enthusiastic iPhone user but did express some frustration with the fact that VoiceOver users are required to use different gestures than those that are used by sighted iPhone users. Robert mentions a new book that teaches iPhone VoiceOver users everything they need to know. The book is available from the National Braille Press and is called a href=http://www.nbp.org/ic/nbp/IPHONE-IOS5.html;Getting Started with the IPhone and iOS 5 for Blind Users/a Jolie and Robert discuss an excellent website filled with information about Apple accessibility. The site is called a href=http://www.applevis.com;Applevis/a There is a new iOS, Android and PC app that allows people to voice chat with other users of the app throughout the world. It has become very popular with blind people. The app is called a href=http://www.zello.com;Zello/a One thing that can quickly become a problem is finding a particular app on your iPhone. Re: TC-Conferencing software.
Hi, Getting the TC conference mac software installed will probably require some sighted assistance. When the program first installs, a java dialog comes up that is not accessible to VoiceOver. Once the button to install has been clicked, the installation will proceed. Assuming that the software is installed, do the following. 1. open safari and press vo+space on the enter this room link. 2. After a few seconds, VoiceOver will report that TC conference is running. 3. Press vo+d to go to the dock. 4. type tc to put focus on the tc conference application and press enter to open it. 5. Press vo+f2+f2 to open the window chooser menu. 6. use the down arrow key to go to the login window and press enter. 7. When in the login window, type the name that you will use while in the room and press the login button with vo+space.
