Re: Problems upgrading iPhone?
Hi Paul can I ask you how the 3GS runs on IOS 6. I also have a 3GS running IOS 5.1 and I did not want to rinstall 6 cos people say it slows the phone up heeps. Cheers Michael. -Original Message- From: Paul Hopewell Sent: Tuesday, September 23, 2014 7:28 PM To: mac-access Subject: Problems upgrading iPhone? Hello, I have an iPhone 3GS 16GB running the latest IOS 6 and syncing to my iMac running the latest iTunes. I have about 30 Apps on the phone which I spent a long time arranging into folders on the home page. Many of these Apps have associated data such as userids, passwords, favourite destinations, weight, and so on. I am about to purchase an iPhone 5S 32GB. I initially want it configured identically to the 3GS - same Apps, same folder structure, and same App data. I initially want to keep the 3GS as a backup phone. Later I may want to add some extra IOS 8 only Apps to the 5S and also add more music to the 5S to exploit its greater storage. When I first connect the 5S to iTunes will it get the same name as the 3GS by default? If so will the 5S then be automatically configured like the 3GS with the same Apps, same folders, and same App data? Does the fact that the 3GS is IOS 6 and only 16GB while the 5S is IOS 8 and 32GB cause any problems? IF the above works OK can I still connect the 3GS to iTunes and sync it possibly with new Apps in the normal way? Can I later change the name of the 5S so that I can add IOS 8 only Apps and more music to that and meanwhile leaving the 3GS with is current Apps and music? If I give the 5S a different name than the 3GS during initial 5S setup then will iTunes consider it to be a completely different device? If so then presumably I would have to do all the work on the 5S to manually build the same folder structure to the 3GS and I would also have to manually set up all the Apps on the 5S with the same data as the Apps on the 3GS. That looks like a lot of work. However it would then enable me to install extra Apps and extra music on the 5S. What do you advise me to do? Many thanks. Re: iphone question.
Hi Travis thats good to hear I would like a 4S but worried that the phone maybe getting bit old for updates. After all i would be updating from a 3G witch has been a verry reliable phone. So are you not in a hurry to up date to a 5 or 6 model. I can only buy a 4S 8 gig brand new from Telstra so I was worried people saying the up dates can take up room so I hope it would be big enough. Cheers Michael. -Original Message- From: Travis Siegel Sent: Wednesday, September 24, 2014 3:10 AM To: OS X iOS Accessibility Subject: Re: iphone question. I still use an IPhone 4S. I'm still using version 6.113, only because I didn't wish to get caught up in the vo navigation issues loads of folks were reporting when they upgraded to version 7.1. My understanding now though, is that those are fixed. I've been told that the 4S can handle ios version 8, but I've not confirmed this yet, so take with a grain of salt. I have the 16GB version, and I've had very little trouble with it. The biggest issue I have at the moment, is that sometimes (happens more when the battery is low) when I double tap on something to activate it, the phone will instead move to the next item on the screen, instead of activating my chosen option. I then have to swipe left, and try the double tap again. Otherwise, things work fairly well for me, so interpret as desired. hth. Re: iphone question.
Hi Christopher in Australia hear Telstra sell the 4S new for $400.And their 5 model around $700. And I do not want to spend that much 4 to 5 is my top. I have looked on ebay and can get a brand new 16 gig 5 or 5s for round $500. All I would do is text make calls play music and surf the net some times. So thought the 4S would do that well. You can probably only get a 4s second hand or refurbished as Apple stopped selling them as of the launch of the iPhone 6/6+. The oldest phone you can get now is the 5c which is a rebranded 5 but with a plastic shell and a choice of several colours hence the c. iOS 8 is the latest and probably last release to run on the 4s. It runs ok but a little slow but that's to be expected on three year old hardware. Good luck in whatever you decide. Hi Glen I have not felt the size of each yet. I guess it depends on what we want the phone for. I just thought for the money the 4s would be good I don't want just the 4 model. The thing with Apple if you want the latest and greatest it will cost every year they reliese a new model. I still useing my old 3GS witch has been a good reliable phone and still is like new.
