Well it appears to work now, for now. I won't be able to do any work in 
automator but I don't have to worry about that yet. I hope it does not quit 
working. but let's say to parity a podcast title, this is not my favorite  
weekend in tech lol!

Hi Sarah,

Try creating a new folder under home directory. Then check if you can save 
files to that directory.  In the default setup the folders in your home 
directory like Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Movies, and Pictures  have 
some odd indirect address setup.

In a pinch, you'll be able to work and save files to that folder while you work 
out what the problem is.

Hi Sarah and Geoff,

There was definitely something odd about using column view to display the 
Command-Option-L shortcut for Documents in Sarah's earlier post.  I had no 
problems when I switched to List view (Command-2) for Finder.  But that didn't 
affect my ability to write files.

I had this issue last Summer and steps such as repairing permissions and 
clean reinstalls did not fix it.  Strangely noone else could reproduce the 
problem and while preparing  my post I can't seem to make it happen, though 
at some point I'm sure it will when I'm attempting to write to my hd while 
in a hurry.  Since it does not appear to affect most people, I suspect this 
bug only bites those who have done a clean install, and perhaps is model 
specific also?


I know this sounds strange, but try switching views.  I don't recall exactly 
which view was problematic for me (column I think).  So try switching to a 
different view such as list and you'll probably have no problems writing to 
your HD.
