2014-02-03 Thread Sarah k Alawami
I'm thinking the one you baught from the store is running mountain lion. go to
about in the apple menu and vo right. if you hear anything other then 10.9.1 or
10.9.0 you are running either mountain lion or lion.

I had a phone do that with me. I had to get a new one and it was running
ios6.0.4 which was about 2 years go if I recall. they do not update the new
phones when they get them. they assume you will.

Take care and be blessed.

Hi,

It does sound like you might be running Mountain Lion. When you VO-m to the
Apple menu bar, VO-down arrow to "About this Mac", press enter, and then
VO-right arrow to the operating system version, does VO say "Version 10.9.1?"

You can upgrade to Mavericks if you're not already running it.

Cheers,

Are you running mavericks at all? It seems like you are not as you are showing
the lion and mountain lion voice over config boxes. I have mute sound
effects, enable audio ducking, enable positional audio, and output device
which is set to my build in output in my case. then a help button then a
search text field.

You did just to make sure hit vo f8 then cmd numrow 6 correct?

The best way I know to do this is to hit control option command and right or

2. go to the sound part with cmd numrow 6.
3. uncheck ducking.

Not exactly. I don't want to install to the drive. I want to clone like I can
with carbon copy clonerthe installest.dmg to make the bootable installer in the
first place.

Re: Is there a way to make 2 boot disks via partitions?

2013-11-02 Thread Christopher Gilland
Keep in mind that if you want to do this, Sarah, you’re actually going to need
a 4 partition scheme. 1 for Mountain Lion, one for Mavericks, one for ML
Recovery, and one for Mavericks recovery. That’s partly why disk utility made
things look really strange.

Is there a way to make 2 boot disks via partitions?

2013-11-01 Thread Sarah k Alawami
Hello to my mac gurus. I have an odd question for you all.

I have a friend who wants to do this. He already has a ML partition on a 32 gig
flash drive. My thinking is he can make another partition on said drive and
create another boot partition with mavericks. We tried to do this but ended up
removing all the partitions and starting over. When we went to disk utility and
clicked add partition it added one, but made it 16 mb. We could not change this
to 16 gigs no matter what we did including trying to type gb.

Next we created 2 partitions and called one 10.8.5 j and one 10.9. He is still
on ML so we ran lion disk maker and it erased all of the partitions on the
volume and made it 1 big 32 gig partition with 10.8.5 on it. Is there a way to
preserve the 10.8l5 boot disk and create a mavericks install boot disk using
the terminal command, and would the terminal command work with the ML thing so
maybe we could do both partitions?

Thanks and be blessed.

You could prob write an apple script to do this but I just do it by hand as I
suck at scripting lol! I hope someone can prob help you with this as it can get
quite annoying. Maybe an automated work flow could be written or recorded as
well.

rtf files are files that had formatting such as bullets, fonts and stuff. Plain
text is the files with out formatting such as justifying, etc. Someone can
explain to you off list as this is not on topic.

Hi Sarah,

You wrote:

Yes, you can use as AppleScript to batch convert these .rtf and .doc files to
.txt using the convert function of textutil, which is one of the utility
programs on your Mac. I just tested this script, which will take any files
with .rtf, .doc, or .docx extensions in a specified folder and create a text
version of the same file with the same name and a .txt extension.

I'll paste it in below, but it's probably easier to send you the AppleScript
file as an attached file off list. Jonathan and anyone else can check this out
by opening the AppleScript editor, pasting in the appended lines, and then
pressing Command-R to run the script. You'll be prompted to select a folder
that holds the contents you want converted. (I prefer to check things out
non-destructively, so I created a test folder on my Desktop and copied in a set
of .rtf and .doc files.)

HTH. Will also send this separately, but the AppleScript is pasted in below my
sig. And by the way, Jonathan, I happen to like Paprika Recipe Manager on iOS
devices. It will handle any of the formats from MacGourmet, Yummy Soup, or a
ton of other standard sources you can grab from the web, including several
international recipe web sites. Also works well if you want to input your own
recipes -- the input keyboard for that mode has an extra row of keys for
quantities, and an easy way to switch between English and metric systems. Also
features integrated shopping lists and cloud synching, scaling of ingredients,
etc. The basic app was pretty accessible to start with, but the developers put
in a lot of updates for VoiceOver users in the latest version update, and are
now working over their Mac desktop app for similar improvements. You can take
a look at the user guides for their iPhone or iPad apps at their web sites, if
you're interested in the features:
http://www.paprikaapp.com/help/iphone/

Cheers,

Esther

Re: Is there a way to batch convert rtf files to txt using osx

2012-07-15 Thread Jonathan Cohn
You have a few options.

The first is to see if there is a save a copy function in the automation work
flows.
Even if not, one should be able to write an AppleScript to duplicate a "Pages"
document.

Next is the question of batching.
Is this a one time event? Do you want a contextual menu? Or perhaps a "folder
action" that occurs every time a new file is added to your recipes folder and
it is type "rtf".

Also, are you going to attempt to process the recipe for example, look for
ingredient lists and reformat them to one ingredient per a line.

You might want to look at one of the recipe management software packages
instead. My wife and children love Yummy Soup, though I have only tested it to
seee if I can read a recipe and never made extensive use.

Best wsies,

Jonathan

Not a silly question you will hold down the 6 and 4 keys just as you hit the
power button and hold it down for about 15 or so seconds.

Also how long would I hold3 and 2 or 6 4 down for?

Sorry for such a silly question

Hi,

If you switch to 32 bit mode. You will not address all the memory. Be aware of
this.

The question I have on this topic is how do you know you are running in 32 or
64 bit mode.

Re: Is there a way

2012-03-10 Thread Sarah Alawami
I know how to switch it but I don't think it will hurt it.

Just hold down the keys 6 and 4 at boot up and it will remain in that state
until you reboot. I do this for my video editing when I do it and my audio
editing when I can get round to it.

Take care.

Is there a way

2012-03-10 Thread Mike Maslo
Hi list, I was wondering if there would be a way I could switch my mac lions
running in 64 mode to 32 mode? If I do this is there bad things which can
happen? Is there a way I can switch back to 64 bit if I wanted?

viols line. Is there a way to stop this behavior?

2011-10-18 Thread michael maslo
Hi list:

Was wondering if anyone has tried tintin?

I have and found out it works outside of the fact that when a new line comes
across the screen, it stops the previous line from reading. Is there a way to
stop this behavior?

In other words, is there a way to make it finish reading one line before it
starts a new line that comes across the screen?

thanks for any help.
