Video adapter for the Mac Mini Question.

2013-05-31 Thread Jim Noseworthy

Hi Folks:

I've got the necessary components to run my Mac Mini without a monitor.
My question is, is there anything particular that I need to do with the
VGA to NTSC converter or does it just work out of the box? I did plug it
in to a USB port on the mac as well as connected it to a mini display
port VGA adaptor.

Thanks.

Re: Video adapter for the Mac Mini Question.

2013-05-31 Thread Esther
Hi Jim,

You might want to wait to hear from John Panarese, or some other Mac Mini owner
who uses the adapter combination in place of a monitor, but my understanding is
that as long as the VGA to NTSC converter from Sewell Direct is plugged into
the VGA end of the Apple mini display port VGA adapter, this should work as
though you had connected your Mini to a monitor that is turned off. I think the
Mini tries to detect whether a monitor is present when it starts up, so you
might need to have this adapter combination in place when you start up your
Mini.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

This is true. As long as you have that setup, the Mini beleives it has a

I think you'll need some sort of display connected to the Mini in order to use
it. If it's the same as the 2009/2010 models, they made it so that it wouldn't
work properly without a monitor.

Re: Mac Mini question.

2011-07-27 Thread Kevin Barry
In my opinion, it's just plain weird for a server to require the
presence of a monitor.

Many servers sit alone in a closet and have zero use for a display.
And, I am talking about sighted users.

HiJim

I used to have one that a friend made for me. But it stopped

The primary server is a 2009 MacBook, (late 2009) and it definitely
requires a display. The mid 2010 versions seem to need it but not
always. My advice to you to be utterly honest would be stick with
what you have unless you have a compelling reason to switch. You'll
lose a lot of the advantages of the MacBook series and other than
additional ports I can't see why you'd want to switch to the Mini
being totally honest.

The Mini is not designed for portability. It is marketed as a
desktop computer. That's why it is logical that it needs a monitor.

Only the mid level one has a discrete graphics processor.

 Hi Folks:

I am considering celling my MacBook Pro in favour of a Mac Mini for
