Re: Moving DropBox

2014-05-30 Thread Sarah k Alawami
All you need to do is option click to show the menu. I think I neglected to
mension that as I sssumed that everyone knew about the change since 2 years
ago. If it kickes you out go back t the extras and try again. Then arrow down
to prefs and there you go.

Gake care.

Re: Moving DropBox

2014-05-30 Thread Gordon Smith
I wish it were that simple. How, for instance, are you supposed to get into
the preferences? I can’t get it to open from the menu bar, nor does it work
when I run the application, but then again I didn’t expect that second option
to work right,.

So, I tried going into the Users & Groups preference pane and on the Logon
Items tab, I looked for DropBox but it was nowhere to be found. In a lame
attempt to prevent it from loading, I renamed the ap and restarted the machine.
Even that didn’t work right. But I can’t find a way of doing it.

Kindest regards

Re: Moving DropBox

2014-05-28 Thread Sarah k Alawami
Acutally I can sort of do it wih tout sighted help. I jsut hit spqce on what I
remember is not selected. I have discussed that these check boxes do not read
with voice over and probably nvda at the dropbox forums and they know of the
issue but they have not as of yet fixed it. I keep contacting them after every
publically tested build and they keep saying they are aware of the issue but
they never fix it.

RE: Moving DropBox

2014-05-28 Thread David Griffith
Thanks Yes Yes - I am trying to do all this from within the preferences and
settings tab of DropBox. Before upgrading to Mavericks I had to get sighted
help for this step under Mountain Lion but even with sighted help it failed
at the end. At least under Mavericks I can access DropBox settings now but
unfortunately with identical results of Dropbox failing to complete the
transfer. It creates a folder on the target drive with all the necessary
files but claims it cannot move the DropBox sync to this new folder at the
end of the process. So basically I end up with dropBox creating a new
folder on the target drive but at the end of the process refusing to abandon
the original one on the small solid state Mac Os drive. If the error
message was more helpful apart from complaining about permissions and gave
you an idea of what to do about it to resolve the issue it would be a start.

By the way I repaired disk permissions repeatedly without success, even in
Recovery Console. I think there is something mangled in my Mac kernel
somewhere as every time I repair permissions I get identical errors
regarding Safari permissions which recurs, even though Disc Utility claims
that they have been repaired. So if I run repair disk permissions
immediately after a repair it will find the identical error which it claimed
it had repaired before.

RE: Moving DropBox

2014-05-28 Thread David Griffith
I went and checked the Inspector and the folder was indeed unlocked but,
thinking about it, this has to have been the case otherwise the DropBox
synch could not work as it should.

I then thought give it another go. You never know.
Again the DropBox app spent an hour transferring files before giving up the
ghost saying I did not have sufficient permission to complete the task. This
is a real annoyance as I have a small 256GB solid state primary drive and
DropBox is unnecessarily hogging up a whole 60gb of this.

I think a complete clean install of Maverick is probably my only course and
hope that this time when I install DropBox that I can specify the DropBox
folder location at install stage.

Really? I can successfuly do this every single time. I woudl make sure that the
folder is unlocked in the inspecter as that's what might be causing the issue.

RE: Moving DropBox

2014-05-27 Thread David Griffith

Actually I have tried to do this 4 times now and failed annoyingly right at
the end when DropBox tells me I do not have the permission to do this. It
would be more helpful if the preferences panel told you this at the very
start rather than labouring away apparently moving the folder for you.

I have ensured that all my other dropBoxes on devices and PCs are offline,
even to the extent of turning off every other device I have dropbox on, and
not synchronizing but still after about an hour of chuntering away copying
material across DropBox refuses to reassign the official DropBox onto the
drive I have tried to move it to on my iMac. The result is simply that I get
a copy of dropBox on another drive but my original setup is left
undisturbed.

I have tried to Google this problem without success. This is only a problem
on the Mac side as I have moved DropBox folders without problem on Windows

Moving DropBox

2014-05-26 Thread Gordon Smith
Good morning all

Does anybody know whether it’s possible to move your DropBox folder once the
client is installed? Ours is becoming too large for the home drive and I want
to move it on to our Thunderbolt drive. On the PC it won’t make any
difference, just the Mac. The reasons for this requirement are numerous, but
one of the most pressing is space saving. My own MacBook Air’s internal flash
drive is becoming rather too full. There are other reasons but I am not going
to detail them here because it would take me off topic.

Kindest regards
