Re: Installing Lion from scratch

Hello Sarah

Yes; we've done that once. The build of Lion we have as an install.app is
obsolete I'd guess but I'm not sure about that. Has anybody downloaded it
recently from the App Store?

Re: Installing Lion from scratch

2011-11-02 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello James

We've now changed our mind on this one. We don't want the machine to be an
exact duplicate of the MBP's we use because those machine are all configured
with Lion Server and that isn't how we want the little MacBook to be configured.

So I'm now looking for another way of installing Lion from scratch. We could
maybe create a DVD but it's a bit messy.

We do have some UsB thumb drives although I don't think those will work either.

As far as I know, this should work, as the Lion download is not specific to any

Hello John

Many thanks indeed. I thought it would work; but I decided to check first
because I didn't particularly want to waste the time otherwise. It will take a
while because the ™ backup is on a network volume.

Thank you again.

I've done this before and works like a charm.

The only thing I can think of if you have licensed programs you might have

It works good and hope you have good luck with it.

Hello everybody

Gordon and I own a number of Macs; one of which is a 2007 MacBook with 4GB
of RAM in it. Currently this machine has no OS installed, and I would like
to mimic one of our MacBook Pro's using Time machine backup to restore it.
The backup is on a Time Capsule.

What I would like to know is this; can I boot into the Snow Leopard Disk
Utility and then select the "Restore from Time Machine Backup" option,
given that the machine is not the same one as that which created the backup?

Advice appreciated.

Lynne
