Re: Text Expander.

2013-11-29 Thread Esther
Hi Dónal,

Yes, TextExpander for the Mac is accessible, as Matthew stated. Here's a link
to an AppleVis podcast demoing some of its features:
• TextExpander for Mac: Type Short Abbreviations to Enter Text Snippets,
Automatically Correct Misspelled Words, and More
http://www.applevis.com/podcast/episodes/textexpander-mac-type-short-abbreviations-enter-text-snippets-automatically-correct
If that link wraps, here's a shortened version:
http://bit.ly/115xfRs

By the way, your 50% off sale link is short of the full coupon code. You can
either use the link you gave, which will get you to the Smile website store,
and then type in the coupon code of TE2013BFF (without the quotation marks)
at check out to get the discount, or use the full link which has three extra
characters (the BFF) at the end. Their promotional email says that the
discount is valid through Monday, December 2, 2013, and that you ca use the
link:
http://sites.fastspring.com/smile/product/te?coupon=TE2013BFF
or else use the coupon code TE2013BFF at their website.

I was also able to use Typinator, which is another text expansion app for the
Mac that I got as part of an old MacUpdate bundle. These apps are all text
based, so I expect them to be accessible. One advantage TextExpander has over
these other text expansion apps is that it has an iOS counterpart, TextExpander
Touch, which you can use to sync your expansion definitions to between Mac and
iPhone, for example. And early on, having text expansion on the iPhone made a
big difference, especially typing accented words with just the on-screen
keyboard. The devs were the first to have the clever idea of releasing their
SDK for free, so other note editing apps, Twitter apps for iOS, etc. could
build in TextExpander support and have this work, despite the policy of app
sandboxing.

I originally recommended TextExpander to another Mac VoiceOver user back in
Fall 2009. He wanted a boilerplate template to fill in student reports,
without having to retype certain stock paragraphs. You can do a lot more with
TextExpander, especially for programming.

Life Hacker has a couple of interesting recent articles on The Best Clever
Uses for Text Expansion:
http://lifehacker.com/the-best-clever-uses-for-text-expansion-1429848608
and The Best Text Expansion App for Mac:
http://lifehacker.com/5843903/the-best-text-expansion-app-for-mac
You'll want to use Safari Reader (Command-Shift-R on the Mac) to read those
pages.

The quick summary is that they liked a $5 app called aText for the Mac that
doesn't do as much as Text Expander, but is cheaper than the $35 list price of
TE; however, this didn't take into account Text Expander's recent addition of
the capability to design and fill in forms with TextExpander. I've tried this
on the iPhone, and it works, but is unstable in the apps I used it with.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Hi Gordon, Matthew, Dónal, and Others,

I've been using TextExpander on the Mac, but I'm not upgraded to Mavericks. I
have been finding the latest iOS version of TextExpander Touch has some
stability problems if I try to use the new forms features, but I can't figure
out whether that's because the apps that use this have still been transitioning
in their iOS 7 optimizations. Sorry that I can't provide insight into using
TextExpander under Mavericks.

Cheers,

2013-11-29 Thread matthew stubbs
the ios app has a problem apparently ios 7 has removed the clip birds
that text expander used as there were other companies miss using the
ability to make clip birds so apple have removed them. Smile who make text
expander had to try to make a work around it they first tried using
reminders how ever apple have informed then that this is a miss use of
reminders, so smile are trying to come up with away round this problem.
the idea that smile have stated they are aiming to do to get round the
fact that you carnet use the text expander click boards is to import the
snip its into each app that uses text expander.
this is how I understand it to be according to the article on the smile
software web sit regarding this matter.
hope this helps

Text Expander Under Mavericks

2013-11-29 Thread Dane Trethowan
I know the problem Gordon's talking about and I fixed it here though I can't
for the life of me work out how I found out what the problem eventually was, I
stumbled across it somehow but I do remember how to fix this.

You need to go into the Security preferences under System Preferences and allow
Text Expander to have control, you will need to press the lock to make changes
before you start.

Re: Error When Updating Text Expander for OSX

2013-06-23 Thread Gordon Smith
Are you using version 2, 3 or version 4? If 2 or 3, the upgrade is a paid
upgrade so you won't be able to update. All the same, you might like to inform
Smile Support.

Kind regards

Text Expander was Bosjock IOS App

2013-06-19 Thread Dane Trethowan
Since Text Expander has had a mention here does anyone know if its compatible
with Notezy?

 Hi Brenda,

Audiobus compatible apps are mainly designed for music and audio creation
programs. One way to get around the sandboxing issue that does not let apps
share with other apps is to freely release a common software development kit
(SDK) that supports this kind of sharing. If the app developers build this
into their apps, then the apps can be made intercompatible. TextExpander
first introduced this idea in 2009, by releasing an iOS SDK for other devs to
use, that would let people who had the TextExpander app use the custom
keyboard shortcuts that they defined in that app in every other app they had
that incorporated the freely available TextExpander SDK. As a result, almost
every major iOS notetaking app worth its salt now supports TextExpander.
(Using the TextExpander Touch app to customize your own keyboard shortcuts
and type accented words was a much bigger deal back then, when there was only
the touch screen and no external keyboards of any sort.)

For Audiobus, the idea from developers and users of music apps is that they
would like to be able to use the output products of apps that recorded or
synthesized audio as the inputs to other audio creation apps. So, you could
create tracks in GarageBand and use them in another music creation app that
had its own synths, for example. But so far, Audiobus compatible apps are
mainly designed for the creation of new audio products with iOS apps -- not
for streaming radio stations or Pandora. So the apps that you use for
listening to podcasts or radio streams, or music like Pandora are not going
to be compatible with Audiobus. That's why, in an earlier post, I suggested
that you might find it better to use the recording features of radio apps
like TuneIn Radio or Ootunes. It is possible to get the recorded programs
out of those apps with third party programs on your Mac. I think Courtney
used DiskAid to transfer the recordings to her Mac:
 http://www.digidna.net/products/diskaid

It may also be possible to transfer such files with PhoneView, which was
discussed in an earlier thread about transferring voicemail, contacts, and
 text messages from your iPhone.

 HTH. Cheers,

 Esther

 Okay, som interesting information here.

You can mix a Line-In source into Bossjock by using the camera kit,
apparently this has some sort of line input, I've not seen the later camera
 kits so can't comment.

Regarding recording from Radio Apps etc? Bossjock will record from any App
which has an Audiobus Out can be mixed into Bossjock as a command source,
not quite sure what that means at this time but I dare say I'll find out
 smile.

 Hi!

I had the pleasure of trying the Bossjock app and I'm very impressed with
what the app offers given its price of $10 Australian.

The App is perfectly accessible though I shouldn't have been surprised,
 the
developer mentioned that he'd had a lot of positive feedback etc from
 other
Voiceover users and that's helped form the excellent Bossjock App.

This App is by no means a fully fledged Broadcasting suite but it does
 offer
enough features and facilities to do some serious recording work and
Netcasting in conjunction with other available Apps.

The main screen is made up of 3 tabs, the Studio tab is where all your
Kart players are, your faders, the control for microphones and so on, the
Recordings tab is where all the recordings you plan to use reside and
 the
Settings' tab is where you'll find the settings to control the app.

How easy is Bossjock to use? Loading tracks into the kart players and
double-tapping on the 1 you want to play couldn't be easier and Bossjock
offers a variety of ways to get those tracks loaded onto the Kart
 players,
the iTunes library is the obvious source for music and audio but how
 about
Dropbox and Wi-Fi? This alone makes Bossjock very powerful and easy to
integrate with other devices such as computers etc.

 I'm still discovering

Re: Text Expander was Bosjock IOS App

2013-06-19 Thread Esther
Hi Dane,

Yes, Notesy has had TextExpander support since it was introduced in Fall 2010,
though I didn't pick the app up until it was briefly free in December of that
year. I did say that almost every iOS note-taking app worth its salt supports
TextExpander Touch, and Notesy is definitely in that category as a very good
note-taking app.

By the way, I'll make another suggestion along the original line of Audiobus
compatible apps: AudioShare – audio document manager by Kymatica. Once you
have your AudioBus compatible apps and are trying to manage all those great
sound files you created in those apps, having something that can manage and
organize those files, create folders, and handle the file transfers between
apps and between your iOS device and your computer is a boon. You can also
record to the app, convert formats, and normalize sound files. So even though
it doesn't get the wow of the other audio creation apps, using its support
for importing and exporting to Dropbox, uploading to SoundCloud, zipping and
unzipping files, using AudioCopy, importing from iTunes, and support for
playback in the app can be pretty handy.

Cheers,

Esther
