Using Pages On My iPon

Hi!

I'm using Pages on my iPhone to compile my fortnightly shopping list, this is 
the second time I've used the App for this sort of thing, a very mundane task I 
know but a task that demands high priority nevertheless.

So to my question, I've typed out all the items I want on the list and I have a 
heading nicely centered in bold and underlined at the top of the document so 
how to number each item in the list?

I imagine that you select the text you wish to work with and then select 
"Lists" from the "Format" options? That's as far as I get, I can't see anything 
which makes reference to bulleted or numbered lists, I can see indenting and 
all the other stuff.

There are sections of the formatting screen that Voiceover doesn't read out 
though I know they're there as I can hear Voiceover skipping over what appears 
to be buttons so perhaps the bulleted and numbered list items are amongst those 
things which Voiceover isn't reading? If that's the case then I' wonder if 
there's a way of say labeling those parts that Voiceover isn't reading, anyone 
any thoughts on this?

I suppose - if worst comes to worst - I can just run back to one of the 3 Mac 
machines I have here, run the Pages App  and do the numbering format from there.

Hi Dane,

Sorry, I don't have any pages info, but just wanted to tell you about the 
quickest and easiest 
method I've found for shopping lists. It's the built-in reminders app. I just 
set up a list called shopping, or grocery, or whatever else I need, and then 
use SIRI to populate the list as I think of things I need during the week.

Using Siri, you can use the "add" keyword to add items to your list, and then 
once finished with the list , you can easily delete them off the list with a  
flick and tap of  the actions menu.

Example:
"add eggs, butter, bread and milk to grocery list".
or, "add to grocery list, eggs, butter, bread and milk"
that will put a reminder in the grocery list that says "eggs, butter, bread and 
milk".
As long as siri is up and running this method is so quick and easy that I don't 
bother with writing out lists in textedit or the notes program anymore.
The important thing is to use the keyword "add", and the name of the list in a 
phrase like "to shopping list".

It really works well and is just  something you might want to consider.

Yes I certainly will consider this as I had no idea that Siri was so powerful 
so thanks for the suggestion, this will save me heaps of time and certainly 
will be far more convenient.

Okay, I'm replying to my own message as I have a question about your shopping 
list, how do you get the output of the list when you need to go shopping? For 
example do you print it, eMail it or what?

First of all, thanks Phil for the suggestion.  I knew that the reminders app 
was powerful, but I'd never looked at lists.  Now from preliminary testing, 
I have a few suggestions for retrieving the list data.


1. Tell siri something like: show my grocery list.

2. go into reminders -> list name.

Hopefully someone can come up with a better suggestion, but it appears to me 
that in order to eMail or print, you would need to traverse your list item 
by item and select and paste.  The three finger quadruple tap gesture 
introduced in IOS7 will speed up the process of copying the items, but I can 
see where this method would involve a lot of toggling around between Mail 
and Reminders if the list gets long.  Siri will read multiple items though, 
hence the gesture referenced above may save a lot more time.


As for printing, I use an app called PrinterPro by Readdle.com.  This app 
supports printing from the clipboard, texts, or eMail messages.

I bring the iPhone along with  me when I go shopping. I simply open the 
reminders app and select the list I want. Then, as I walk through the store 
with the iPhone in my hand,  I run my finger down the list (or flick right and 
left) to hear its contents. no need to print or email anything.  And, if I have 
a sighted assistant helping me find the items, they also hear the items read 
aloud and that helps us to work together as a team so to speak. 
You can tell siri to "show grocery list", for example, but opening the list in 
reminders gives more  flexibility in using the list. For example, you can check 
off,or delete the items from the list as you go - -something not possible when 
the list is simply "shown".
I think we're expecting a level of complexity that simply isn't there.  After 
all, why print out the list when you can simply carry it with you, checking off 
items as you go?

As an aside, when adding items to your list as you think of them, if siri gets 
it wrong,  you can interact with her and tell her to "change title". then, 
re-speak the item name. Siri will ask confirmation of your item and then add it 
to the list. It's a lot easier for me now to add items to my various lists as I 
think of them, wherever I may be. No more sitting down and trying to come up 
with a complete list (which inevitably  lacks one or two items).

Points taken, I'm going to have a look at the Printer Pro App after I've 
finished my breakfast, this App handles a wide variety of printing jobs so 
perhaps printing reminders is one? Either that or perhaps you can use the Notes 
App with Siri in much the same way as you're using the Reminders App.

Printing - if I possibly can - is the best method for me in noisy background 
environments where I can hardly hear what my sighted assistance is saying let 
alone what the iPhone is babbling about but certainly! if I could I'd be using 
your method of swiping through the list.
