there's a podcast on Applevis.com about a battery app that deals with all
things battery. David Woodbridge did the podcast, and a search on the site for
"battery" will probably bring it up.

RE: battery status

2013-11-19 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hi,

When I first got my MBA about 2 1/2 months ago, I had the same question.
Over the weekend, I finally got my first alert when the MBA went down to 5%.
So, you stated that you were plugging in at 7%, which would not trip the
alert. I have no idea if this alert can be changed like increasing it to
10%. I was wondering if other more seasoned Mac users can chime in on how to
configure the battery alert percentage to be increased or to have a shortcut
on the desktop to access this info instead of opening the status menu.

Thanks.

Eileen

You can also hit voice over plus shift plus K to enable keyboard commander. This

In addition to Sarah & Phil’s responses, I’ll add the following:
 1. There is a built-in hotkey to announce the date & time. The hotkey is
Right Option + T. I believe this hotkey is disabled by default. To enable
it, press VO+F8 to open the VO Utility, select Commanders, select the
Keyboard Tab, then tick the box to Enable Keyboard Commander. This will
also enable you to launch Safari by pressing Right-Option + S, and to
launch Mail by pressing Right Option + M.

 2. My personal preference for finding form fields or other web elements is
to use the web rotor, which is accessed by pressing VO+U while on a web
page. Once the web rotor is open, use the left and right arrow keys to
move between categories of web items e.g. Links, Headings, Form Fields,
etc), then use the up and down arrow keys to move through a list of the
available items in that category. Once you’ve found the desired item,
press Return or VO+Spacebar to move focus to that item on the website.

The only thing I can think of for you to get such a slow reaction from Option+T

Oops? I guess I musst have been still asleep. I don't generaly teach the qn way
first as you have to enable the quick keys first and those are off by default.
hence why I gave gthe safari directions as that's how I I taught myself.

Hi!
And yet further to what has been said! *smile*
To make sure that the shortcuts work properly when you go to VO+f8 you should
be on the general option arrow right until you find [allow voice over to be
controlled by apple scripts] and make sure that is checked!
Then you can press command+8 to take you straight to commanders to switch them
on!
Also if you are using Mountain Lion you have the option to use either [option
key] or even both I have it set to use both!

I find using VO and pressing letter m twice is the quickest way to access menu
extras, for checking battery etc. Checking the time might already be set up via

Re: checking battery status and time, finding edit box on webpage, going back a page?

2013-10-17 Thread Bryan Jones
Hello,

In addition to Sarah & Phil’s responses, I’ll add the following:
1. There is a built-in hotkey to announce the date & time. The hotkey is Right
Option + T. I believe this hotkey is disabled by default. To enable it, press
VO+F8 to open the VO Utility, select Commanders, select the Keyboard Tab, then
tick the box to Enable Keyboard Commander. This will also enable you to launch
Safari by pressing Right-Option + S, and to launch Mail by pressing Right
Option + M.

2. My personal preference for finding form fields or other web elements is to
use the web rotor, which is accessed by pressing VO+U while on a web page. Once
the web rotor is open, use the left and right arrow keys to move between
categories of web items e.g. Links, Headings, Form Fields, etc), then use the
up and down arrow keys to move through a list of the available items in that
category. Once you’ve found the desired item, press Return or VO+Spacebar to
move focus to that item on the website.

HTH,
Bryan

2013-10-17 Thread Phil Halton
Actually, command shift comma won't get you into the preferences window for
safari. just use command comma.

Another way to find edit boxes in a safari webpage is to turn on quicknav, and
press the letter "f" for form fields, then turn off quickNav in order to type
in the edit field
each press of "f" while in quicknav will move you to the next form field, with
shift "f" moving you back to the previous field.
Quick Nav is turned on and off by pressing the left and right arrows
simultaneously. .

I've just got a Macbook Pro.
How can I please check the status of the battery?
How can I check the time please?
What's the easiest - quickest way to find an edit box on a webpage, say logging
into a bank account please?
How does one go back to the page they were on when on a website please?
If it's better to ask each question in an individual email please let me know!

Re: Battery status

2011-11-12 Thread Bryan Jones
Hi Catherine,

Here's one way to do it. The following steps assume you are running OSX Lion
10.7.2.
1. Make sure your system is set to display the battery status in the menu bar.
You can do this by checking the check box under the battery tab of the Energy
Saver preference pane.
2. Press VO+M+M to move the VO focus to the status menu, which is located on
the right side of the menu bar along the top of your screen.
3. Press VO+left or right arrow repeatedly until you reach the battery status
icon, whereupon you should hear something like "Battery 80 percent remaining"
or " Battery charged."

HTH,
Bryan
