Hi,
For all practical purposes, either upgrade method is the same, they get you to
the same place. Software update was traditionally used, but it doesn't matter.
Best,

after an hour on fibre optic broad band it said re start and amazing
all works now.
Please can I really say how thank full I am to one and all who helped
and sorry about being confused.

Hi Matthew,
FYI, the entire message you wanted to send was put into the subject line, and
thus a bit confusing. Make sure you're actually typing that into the body in
future.
That being said, without more information it's hard to help you. Is the drive
turned on, or does it not need to be? Is it plugged into power, or does it get
that from the computer? Have you used it before?
In short, please give us more info so we can help. :)
Yours,
Zack.

Finally got my head around iTunes, Thanks Lynn!

2013-03-03 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi all

Well, I guess others should get some credit here as well. But Lynne sat down
with me this morning when she saw how frustrated I was getting with iTunes.
She explained to me how the visual appearance changed when you do things like
expose the sidebar. In fact, exposing the sidebar is the most helpful aspect
of this, as it totally changes the behaviour of the application. It also makes
sorting much more user-friendly and searching is also far easier. I am very
behind, as is Lynne, on E-Mail. I think it was Sarah who suggested on list
that I try that trick, so thanks.

I'm now able to see all of the things I just wasn't seeing before and, now that
I've got my head around it, I am coming to understand how powerful the new
interface actually is.

RE: Thanks for all the help

2013-02-25 Thread David Griffith
You will see a message from me earlier saying that all you need to do is
plug an external drive in and then hit the yes button when the Mac asks if
you want to use the drive as a Time Machine backup.

That is all you have to do.

well as the direct link to read the user manual in my own web browser.

 Hi all

Is it me, or do others find the manipulation of text and media messages on
the iPhone to be very clunky? For instance when editing a group of messages
that you want to delete, you have to keep going in and out of the message
 screen.

Is it me, or is this the case for everybody else as well??

2011-11-16 Thread robert doc Wright
I am very new to the Mac world but not to voiceover. I have had my iPhone
3gs since January. I recently purchased an old Power Mac g4 aka EMac. Its
running Leopard 10.5. I found a tutorial thanks to a lady named Esther. So,
once I set up a mental hard drive for voiceover commands and become more use
to it I figure I can then start saving up for a real Mac.

Though, it keeps bugging me to do a software update, which I cannot because
the previous owner did not get the system disk when theunit was given to
him, I do nhot know the password. the user name is mac user. with it being
listed as obsolete I doubt that I can take it to an Apple store to get help.

have a keen interest. We hope you will feel free to post your questions
and constructive comment, whatever your skill levels may be. Be assured,
there will be none of the ridiculing and flaming which we know takes place
in other groups. That kind of behaviour is not tolerated in Mac-Access.

Anything Mac OS and iOS is on topic for this group. In the case of
virtualisation applications such as Fusion and Parallels Desktop, the
configuration of the applications themselves, plus the configuration of
the virtual machines is on topic. However, the configuration of Windows or
any other operating systems within that virtual machine is off topic. The
exception to that is if you're using another instance of OSX within the
virtual machine. This has always been a bit of a grey area; but we hope
this clarifies the position.

If you have any list-related queries, please do not hesitate to contact
either Gordon and myself, (the list owners), at supp...@mac-access.net,
or one of our very capable assistant list controllers; Anne Robertson,
a...@anarchie.org.uk or James Austin, james.aus...@mac-access.net and
we will be happy to help you.

Once again, a very warm welcome to the group. We hope you find your
membership an enjoyable experience.

Finally, I would like to add that currently, we are offering all
Mac-Access. members the opportunity to purchase the Take Control Of Your
Mac publications, published by Tidbits.com, at an 80% discount.

Re: Thanks

2011-11-13 Thread Sarah Alawami
lol. For me it was nothing but patterns. Once I recognized those I was good to
go and was using the mac almost flawlessly with in about 24 hours. How did I do
this/ I took it to class and took notes and just used it. I had some issues at
first but they were resolved in a few days once I got the concept down pat.

Im glad you are enjoying your mac and keep going with it. It is a nice tool to
have.

Thanks so much! and another questionn!

2011-10-17 Thread Desi Noller
Thanks to Anne and Sarah, and another friend locally, I did get my e-mail set
to classic view. I used to be able to go through my message list by up and
down arrowing and then pressing enter on the one I wanted to read without
having to interact with the table. I don't seem to be able to do that now. Is
there another setting I need to change? Thanks so much for any further help
here! Once I get my e-mail completely set, I'll be able to take my time and
slowly learn all the rest of the new stuff in Lion! You guys are fabulous!

Re: Thanks so much! and another questionn!

2011-10-17 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Desi,

First of all, is the preview pane still showing? In other words, when you arrow
down through the messages, does each one open in turn and get marked as read?
If so, position yourself on the horizontal splitter that divides the headers
from the message body, bring the mouse to the VO cursor, and do a double click.
That should put the horizontal splitter at the bottom of the window, and you
should be able to arrow down through the messages and press Return on the one
you want to read. It should then be read straight through.

This is how I read my messages.

Cheers,

Anne

OT: From Lynne Gordon; Our Heartfelt and sincere thanks

2011-09-13 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello everybody

I don't want to be accused of monopolising this list as happened last time I
dared to make personal comment here. But the response has been so
overwhelmingly favourable this time that I felt I had to write at least once.

First of all, thank you very much to Anne and James for stepping into the
breech as such short notice.

I am deeply touched by all of the good wishes on the forum by members. I won't
forget it. Gordon had an operation this afternoon and I'm on my way to see him
very shortly. I have special dispensation from the hospital owing to the
circumstances to stay late tonight with him.

I won't detail on list what happened; but if anybody wants to know feel free to
contact me privately, ly...@mac-access.net and I'll gladly let you know. I
will also be sure to pass on all of your kind comments to Gordon; I am sure
that at this difficult time he will find it uplifting.

I am grateful to each and every one of you who has written, privately or
otherwise. I want you all to know also that should anybody be thinking of
purchasing TC books at this time, please don't hesitate. I will probably take a
little longer than usual but I will still be more than happy to expedite your
orders.

My sincere gratitude once again to each and every one of you who have written.
You put those who were supposed to be our friends but have ignored us of late
to shame.

Lynne

Spotlight question and thanks

2011-08-31 Thread Kristeen Hughes
Can I search with Spotlight on my mac for files and folders that are on a drive
on my networked PC? It seems like I can, but I don't know how to make it happen.

Also, I have appreciated the help of this list since purchasing my Apple. You
folks are very patient and helpful. I hope someday I will know enough to be
patiently helpful as well.
