[MacGroup] Adobe Flash Player

2013-05-23 Thread Suzanne Blake
Dear Ones,

Can we now download with giddy abandon whenever the pop-ups appear? The last
bazillion times, I've not used the pop-up & gone to the Adobe website

Thanks, Suzanne Blake

[MacGroup] Adobe Flash Player

2017-01-23 Thread Harry Jacobson-Beyer
In Safari, on several sites, I keep getting the message "You need the latest
Adobe Flash Player.” Then there is a button to press to get Flash Player.

I never use the button I always go to system preferences, but when I click to
check for updates preferences tell me there are no updates.

What gives? Why do I keep getting the message? Should I update through the web
site?

Thanks.

2017-01-23 Thread Ed Stivers
>From Jacquie Lawson: "
"Handy Tip! Until recently, Adobe's Flash player has been pretty much the
only show in town when it comes to web-based animation and as some of you

you'll see some changes to our website in the coming months as we start to

How do I install Adobe Flash Player and do I want to.

There is a website that says it is needed but I can’t get it installed. Get
message saying the application “Install Adobe Flash Player.app" can’t be opened.

Flash Player is holier than a screen door and seems to have a security update
every week or so. You should always check with Adobe at
 because there have been several
false updates going around. It's a real nuisance.

My solution is to not have Flash Player installed at all. Google Chrome has
Flash built in, and Chrome updates itself magically in the background so you
don’t get nagged about the updates. When I need Flash, I run Chrome. There
aren't very many sites I hit that really need Flash. Usually it's only for ads
that I'd just as soon not see anyway.

Update:

I opened Firefox and went to the same site that in Safari told me I needed to
update Flash but in Firefox I didn’t get that message.

I’m confused.

Apple does this due to the voluminous security problems with Flash, Apple wants
you to be sure you know the site before Flash is opened

Remember, Jobs would not allow Flash on any of our mobile devices, he was the
lone wolf, so the more progressive sites have been reprogramming to HTML, now
Google has adopted the same for their mobile devices, not allowing Flash.

John,

Thanks so much. My preferences were a little different than yours. When I
clicked on Security then Plub-in settings Adobe Flash Player was already turned
on. But in the right-hand window there was a list of "configured web sites”
with Adobe Flash Player turned on and there was a another window with
“Currently Open Websites” and the web site that was open was the one that
needed Flash player. It was turned off for that web site. I turned it on and
everything worked well. Thanks. for you help.

Re: [MacGroup] Adobe Flash Player

2017-01-23 Thread William Rising

Flash also has had a bad habit of sucking down resources once opened. I use
Chrome when a site requires flash [1] because (at least in the past), Chrome
was vigilant at having the most recent Flash with the most recent security
patches. Of course, I think Google has cooled towards Flash, so this might not
be a long-term strategy.

Bill
[1] If you turn on the Develop menu you can easily jump over to Chrome to open
the website without the need to copy and paste the URL.

I don’t ever install Flash because it’s long been one of the leading targets
for malware. It’s amazing to me that after all these years people are still
finding what Adobe calls “critical exploits” in Flash.

Whenever I positively need Flash—and those times are getting rare—I go to the
site with Chrome instead of Safari. Chrome has a special sandboxed version of
Flash built in.

However, Google is trying to discourage everyone from using Flash, so they’ve
turned it off in the newer versions of Chrome. To turn it on, check out this
