This seemingly allowed me to correctly install XML::Parser. Yes, you have to do perl Makefile.pl EXPATLIBPATH=/usr/local/lib EXPATINCPATH/usr/local/include With these changes, I was able to get XML::Parser to work for my own Perl CGI application (http://www.lightandmatter.com/spotter/spotter.html). As I recall, I think I e-mailed someone relevant (Clark Cooper?) about this, but got no response. (My memory could be faulty.) The XML::Parser web page at http://wwwx.netheaven.com/~coopercc/xmlparser/intro.html gives Cooper's e-mail as coopercc at netheaven.HEDOESN'TWANTSPAM.com, but anyway, maybe it's something that should just be posted to the perl-xml mailing list. This has come up several times on this list. Is there anyone here who also subscribes to perl-xml and wants to try to initiate a discussion there? Heck, I could probably write up a patch to the makefile myself -- it's just a question of establishing contact with the maintainer and getting this trivial problem fixed for once and for all. Feel free to copy this message to perl-xml.

I am trying to run a cgi which requires Expat and XML::Parser. However, I had some difficulty when installing both Expat and XML::Parser. Using CPAN I was not able to locate Expat, so I pulled it down directly and ran configure, make, make install. However, I had to remove references to xmlwf in the makefile to make that work. Then once it worked I had to modify the Expatlibpath and expatincpath in the makefile. This seemingly allowed me to correctly install XML::Parser. (obviously not) Has anyone had any similar problems? One piece of advice I did receive was that would be caused by your expat libraries and the XML::Parser module being compiled against different sources. Recompiling these from the same source should solve it. Can anyone confirm this? And if so, how would I proceed. Thanks I am running OSX 10.1.2 with developer tools installed. The answer is simple. It has not been uploaded yet since MacOSX::File is still development phase. But it is faily stable now so I should upload it soon. Dan

If so, is there something we can do to fix this? Most of my Nope, you're not. I think this thread has passed this list before. It's not just menus, hovering over any gui component causes a crash. Haven't had time to try and track down the problem though... rick
Re: Perl/Tk on Mac os X
Phil, I have followed the same procedure as you and I also get a bus error with menus. In fact, the widget demo that comes with perl/Tk gives a bus error for almost every part of its interface. Are we the only two people having this problem? If so, is there something we can do to fix this? Most of my Tk scripts have menus! -Aaron Lawson On Sunday 04 November 2001 05:03 pm, you wrote: > Does anyone know the proper procedure for installing Perl/Tk on Mac os X? > > I've installed xfree86 and the Tk:: module... > and this library: http://www.Lehigh.EDU/~sol0/Macintosh/X/ptk/dyld-tk/ > > Now I can run a perl/tk script with a simple file->exit menu and when I > hover over it, I get a bus error. > > _ > Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
