Typing Spanish characters

Hi,

Is there a way to quickly type Spanish symbols using the Mac? Also, is
it possible to change the writing language of TextEdit to Spanish?
Thanks.

hey May,
when text edit is running, it will show up in the dock as running. to
keep it there, go to your dock, find it and do VO shift m to bring up

Re: skype on the iphone

2009-09-17 Thread Thuy

Hi Rebecca. I use Fring, which is an instant messaging/voice over ip
app which includes skype.
http://maccessibility.net/iphone/apps/#
the maccessibility site is a brillint resource for all things Apple
including Macs and IPhones. You can get a whole list of accessible
apps for the iphone at
http://maccessibility.net/iphone/apps/
Fring has a few unlabelled buttons, but it's fairly easy to guess what
they are, for instance, if you need to dial a number, there is a
numpad which just says 'button' on each one. You can press one of them
and see what digit has been put in the display and basically count
your way through the unlabelled buttons. Hope this helps?

it seems it only works one way, if at all. Any help would be

Subject: lowering the verbosity of the finder column view

 Hi all

I wanted to know if anyone else on here uses column view in finder,
and if anyone else has found a way to cut down on the verbosity of
voiceover in this view? It seems to want to announce a list view
everytime I right arrow into a foler, but I really don't care to hear
this since I already know that I'm in a list. That's all the column
view is. Could anyone direct me to the correct verbosity settings
that need to be tampered with to get rid of this?

Dear Lindsay,

In System Preference (which you will find in the dock) interact with
the scroll area and choose language and text button. There you will
find a few tabs that will help you customise various features to do
with foreign languages. One of the tabs is input tab where you check
the keyboards you wish to use. once you have checked them, they will
appear in a menu on your menu bar which you activate with control+f8.
Then you arrow left a few times, and there you will find your button.
The keyboard which is currently active is immediately spoken. press
down arrow to open your menu and arrow down and vo+spacebar on the
keyboard layout you want.

You can also use keyboard shortcut keys to file through your enabled
keyboards and stop at teh one you wish.

Hope this helps.

I haven't done this yet, but apparently you have to upload the books
to a server, then download them to your iPhone using the Read2Me app.
The books have to be in plain text.

 2. do you know if there are other tts languages , i.e. italian o

No, the only TTS language is English, but your iPhone voice can read
the text. Unfortunately, when you use the iPhone voice, you can't use
the Play/Pause control.

It would be worth contacting the developer to ask for other languages
since the app uses the Acapela voices.

A possible solution to the Voice Over not responding when using certain options in Keyboard Commander

2009-09-17 Thread James Nash

Hi folks,

Firstly, thank you to Anna for telling me how to enable the option for
hearing how many unread messages are in Mail via Keyboard commander.
After experiencing the same issues as some list members where Voice

solution. I use Fred as my default Voice Over voice, so make sure that
your System voice is different from your favourite Voice Over voice

Voice Over occasionally stops speaking in Text Edit

2009-09-17 Thread James Nash

Hi list,

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour? Occasionally in Text Edit,
Voice Over will stop speaking or it will not allow you to edit text
and the only way to fix this is to turn VO off and on again. It's
quite annoying as sometimes you have to do this more than once. I will
report this to Apple Accessibility, but I just wondered if anyone else
was having the same issue?

Thanks

Oh, and an other question: Is there a build-in spellchecker in the

Re: Typing Spanish characters

2009-09-17 Thread Justin Harford

Another thing worth mentioning if you don't want to change back and
forth between keyboard layouts is that you can use the option key.

option+e then type a vowel and it puts an accent over it
option+n and then type the n and it putes a tilde over it

option+u and then type u and it puts a dialisis over it.
option+shift+q? makes an inverted question mark
option+1 makes an inverted exclamation mark.

You might not like that voiceover still, even when localized in
Spanish, does not read inverted questions and exclamations right. I
changed this in the pronunciation dictionary so it says, pregunta
invertida and exclamación invertida etc

appreciate your help. I would still like to know how to page up and
down. Especially when on a long pdf or web page. :)

 Dear Christina,

you shouldn't feel embarrassed about not knowing these things. It took
me an inordinate amount of time to work the navigation in text
shortcut keys. Somehow they didn't seem to register in my mind. I came
to mac from Windows and Jaws two years ago but it took me a long time
to learn the key combinations you are asking for. Here is what I can
do and remember. Others will surely chip in.

 1. To jump to the beginning and end of line, press control + left
arrow and right arrow respectively. Voiceover will helpfully say the
word which is at the beginning or end of line and remember that when
voiceover has said the word, it has just passed it. It's very reliable
and with time you will learn to trust it.

 2. To jump to the top row and bottom row of a table once you are
interacting with it, press vo+shift+left or right arrow respectively.
I hope I'm not getting it wrong. I don't do it that often but I
remember Esther had helped me with that one. So try it and if it is
wrong, please ask the list again.

 3. To jump to the beginning or end of a document either in TextEdit or
in the body of a mail message with which you need to interact, press
 command+up arrow or down arrow.

I've never successfully managed to find and execute a way of jumping
up and down the document by page although others on the list have
suggested key strokes for that. So I hope that someone else will
 provide those.

 Hope this helps.

 Best wishes,

 Simon

I haven't done this yet, but apparently you have to upload the books
to a server, then download them to your iPhone using the Read2Me app.
The books have to be in plain text.

 2. do you know if there are other tts languages , i.e. italian o
 russian ?
No, the only TTS language is English, but your iPhone voice can read
the text. Unfortunately, when you use the iPhone voice, you can't use
 the Play/Pause control.

It would be worth contacting the developer to ask for other languages
since the app uses the Acapela voices.

The developer is David Hoofnagle and contact details can be found on

Re: play list instructions

2009-09-17 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn

Pete,

I believe you should be able to find some good historic references,
and I don't use play lists much right now... However I wanted to make
sure you know there are two kinds of playlists
1. Manual These are static lists of songs you add from your main
library and don't change unless you change them.

Smart Play Lists: These are more dynamic, you could create a smart
list of all songs by Peter, Paul and Mary that you have not heard in
the last 60 days. Or you could create a smart play list of all songs
in the album The Wall.

In either case you would start by creating the appropriate List from
the file menu of iTunes. With the Smart Play List, you then have to
specify a set of rules and if you want all or any of the rules created
to be used for your list.

Hello list,

I've been experiencing sluggish typing while typing an e-mail. When
I'm composing a message voiceover speaks very slowly. So, I don't
know if it's actually typing slowly on the screen or if it's just
voiceover speaking very sluggishly. It's weird because I have this
sensation as though I'm typing in mud. This doesn't always occur
while typing a new message. It definitely happens every time I reply
to a message. It is very frustrating.

Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have any ideas as to
why this has been happening since I upgraded to SL? I love my mac and
SL so I don't want to sound as though I'm complaining. :)

Thanks so very much,

Do Ipod Classics have VoiceOver?

2009-09-17 Thread Pete Nalda

Folks,
this is a sad day of sorts as my 5th generatiion ipod has finally
given up the ghost. It can not absolutely be revived. I've some
sight and could read the menus a little but want to upgrade. It was a
32gb. I'd like something with VO so I guess my 2 choices are Nano
and new Touch? Any classics?
TIA.

why did my Ipod become corrupt? Anyone else experience this?

2009-09-17 Thread John J Herzog

Hi listers,
I received my Ipod touch on Tuesday, and everything was working fine
last night. However, when I turned it on today, none of my installed
apps would launch. I would double tap them, but the home screen would
not go away, and the app refused to run.
Long story short, I had to reset my Ipod by erasing everything and
installing it all from scratch.
If anybody is using a touch, have you had similar experiences? Also,
what could have caused things to go wrong? Are you supposed to not use
any applications when your Ipod is plugged into the computer charging?
I was on a fring call when that occurred last night. And that's the
only remotely feasible thing I can think of that caused data corruption.
I'm interested to know your thoughts.

John

Hi Pete,

I'm pretty sure the Classic doesn't have VoiceOver, unfortunately.

Best,
Anna

Re: Sync-question on the Iphone

2009-09-17 Thread Søren Jensen
Awesome. Thanks for your reply. I just didn't thought Itunes was able
to sync all that stuff like mail and the calender. Can't wait to get
my Iphone. :)

 Hello Søren,

When you connect your iPhone, it launches iTunes. Find your iPhone
in the Sources table, then navigate right to the scroll area. When
you interact with this, you'll find all kinds of settings to play
 with.

 Explore and have fun.

 Cheers,

 Anne

 Hi Anne.

Thanks a lot for your answer. Do you know if these things are
synced using Itunes? And is it possible to choose what you wanna
sync? For example if I don't wanna sync my mail for any reason?
 Best regards

All mine were synced automatically. My Address Book is there,
sorted into groups, just like on my MacBook. All my bookmarks are
there in Safari, and all my iCal events and reminders are there.
All my Mail accounts are set up properly, too. It's just so easy!

Oh, and an other question: Is there a build-in spellchecker in the
 Iphone like on the Mac?
I haven't looked at that, but there is autocompletion.

You're going to wonder how you ever managed without it.

 Cheers,

 Anne
