Hi Claude,

Good to know there are other froggs in this list.

I've been on the mac boat for a bit over 2 months now, and i don't
think i will boot up windows for a while, at least until they make win
screenreaders more intuitive and add the multitrack pad. Just can't
praise this enough.

Well, if your english isn't to par, it doesn't appear not to be :)

Re: songs appearing in iTunes?

2009-09-27 Thread Esther

Hi Donna,

If you want to check the source of tracks that are in your iTunes
library that you think may have been purchased, you can do so.

You can check when iTunes tracks were purchased (and by whom) by
selecting the track and using "Get Info" (Command-I), and choosing the
"Summary" tab. You'll be able to read off whether the track has DRM
(the "Kind" field will include the word "Protected" -- e.g.,
"Protected AAC audio file" instead of "Purchased AAC audio file"), the
size, bit rate, sample rate, play count, last played date, along with
fields for "Purchased by", "Account Name", and "Purchase Date".

Even "free" tracks from the iTunes Store are registered as "Purchased"
-- just for $0.00. On the other hand, tracks that you've encoded
yourself won't have these fields. You can also check your complete
purchase history on iTunes by logging in, and checking your account.
If you've logged in, then the "Store" menu on the iTunes menu bar will
have an entry for "View my account" (followed by your account name),
and you'll be prompted for your password. There will be a button for
"Purchase History" that you can press (VO-Space). You'll get a list
of your purchases shown by date (most recent first), and a Previous
Purchases menu where you can select a month and year period to check.

I think that just querying the tracks you don't recognize with
"Command-I" will tell you what you need. The other possibility, as
others have mentioned, is that your iTunes Sharing preferences have
been set to view other iTunes libraries on the same network, and that
you're able to play songs that are in someone else's iTunes library.
You can check your iTunes preferences with Command-Comma to bring up
the preferences menu, then select the "Sharing" tab and see whether
"Look for shared libraries" is checked. However, music tracks that
are from shared libraries shouldn't appear mixed in with your own.
The libraries show up (identified by name) in the source table, and
you need to expand those libraries to view and play the associated
music that is shared for streaming play.

HTH

Cheers,

Esther

Hi Kevin,

The answer is yes, you should be able to use your keyboard, and VO will give
you enough feedback to do what you mentioned. And you will be able to do a
lot more as well, I advice you to use iLife 9 with GarageBand 5 included,
and run it with Snow Leopard. You will then obtain the best possible level
of accessibility currently available in GarageBand.

a question about pocket tunes for the Iphone

2009-09-27 Thread John J Herzog

Hi listers,
When I first got pocket tunes, I could click on search, and use it to
find stations all around the country. Recently however, I clicked
search by location just out of curiosity. Now I wish to once again
search the entire catalogue for stations. How do I turn location based
searching off? I don't see a button to change the setting back to its
default of not using my location. Furthermore, when I turn off
location based services in the settings of my Ipod touch, pocket tunes
tells me to enable location based services so it can perform a station
search. How do I get it back to the way it was before?

Thanks,
John

Question on Burning an Audio CD

2009-09-27 Thread David McLean

Hello, I've noticed in the Finder context menu there is a burn to disk
option. However when I use it to burn a folder that contains mp3
files it doesn't convert them to a standard audio cd, instead it just
burns the mp3s.
Is there any way to use this option in Finder to create an audio cd
instead or is the only way to do this through Itunes?

Appreciate any help.

Gmail, Voiceover and Leopard

2009-09-27 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,
I'm still practicing on my wife's Mac powerbook with Leopard and
Voiceover. I was looking at my Gmail account and while I could arrow down
the list of messages and hear the first few lines of the message after the
subject was read, I couldn't open the message to read the entire thing in
Gmail. When writing to you on my PC, I use Outlook 2002 and it downloads
all my mail from Gmail and leaves copies on server. But when I was reading
the mail on my wife's Mac, I couldn't actually open the message to read it.
I tried both VO spacebar and a straight ENTER, and neither opened the

Thanks,

software question

2009-09-27 Thread Maxwell Ivey Jr.

Hello group; I haven't seen any discussion about this topic, so I
hope someone out there can help with some good suggestions. I've been
using my mail program on my macbook to create bulk emails for my
business. I have been building groups in my address book, and after I
create a message with photo attachments and html links; I send it to
that group using the bcc field and the group name. Recently, its been
suggested that maybe I should invest in a newsletter creation program
to help with the process and make my offerings more professional. So,
first question is should I need the additional software? I'm told
they can also be used to help track responses and offer other
features. And second, is there a program any of you would recommend
for this? I'm almost totally blind, so it will have to be very
accessible with voiceover. I'll appreciate any help I can get. Thank
you in advance, Max

I've found this as well. Often if you command tab out of automator,
then command tab back in, the busy signals stop. I don't know why
this is, but it seems to work.

Thanks for all answers.
Here's a new one.
Does the iPod Touch (and iPhone) have regular mini-jacks or are they
smaller than the normal ones?

RE: load of rubbish!

2009-09-27 Thread Simon Fogarty

I've played with the iphone over a couple of months and I've gotta say, that
although it's not a device for me.

It's a bloody good attempt at accessibility and I think that
1. apple should be commended for their attempt at making it accessible out
of the box.

2. it's a great device for those needing to do email and document reading
that don't have access to a blackberry, and don't want to carry a laptop /
net book around with tem.

3. it should be shown to any VI or totally blind person as an option as a
usable cellular device.

It takes a bit of getting use to but it's very usable if you have the time
to use it.

I myself needed to switch back to a symbian based device for the reason that
I was on the go all the time and needed something that I could use with one
hand while walking but would also give me full PDA / appointment time
managing features.

As well as a better battery life than the 3gs IPhone was giving me.

Sadly, this does seem to be the opinion of people that have not tried
the device. I would have hoped that since peter knows that his show is
quite popula he would have at least sat down with it for a day or so
and got to kno it. If infact he has done this and still thinks its
inaccessable, whilst I can't see why he does, its still an eduicated
opinion and I don't see anything wrong with this. It seems that people
here "touch screen" and dismiss the phone instantly.

Sharing music between user accounts

Podcasts and resources about VoiceOver on the iPhone and iPod Touch [was Re: touch screens?]

Hi Christina,

You wrote:

>

I'm not sure which podcasts May referred to when she said that
listening to podcasts about the iPhone before she got the iPhone
helped her to learn about the iPhone, but there are a lot of these
around. Shane Jackson came out with a number of podcasts on his new
iPhone 3GS at the BlindWorld Blog and Podcast back in June, and there
were some later podcasts by Dennis Bartlett and others at that site.
The Serotek blog pages and podcasts have had some really good
coverage, also including the new features (like copy and paste) that
were implemented with the recent OS 3.1 update to the iPhone 3GS and
iPod Touch. Mark Taylor has also covered a lot of iPhone tutorials
and tips on his Candleshore blog and in his podcasts. There have also
been round-table discussions in the mac-cessibility podcast.

Here are a few resources, starting with the pages for some of these
podcasts that you can subscribe to through iTunes:

• BlindWorld Blog and Podcast
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=291664937
web pages at:
http://blindworldblog.blogspot.com/

• The Mark Taylor Candleshore Podcasts
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=322878129
web pages at:
http://mark.candleshoreblog.com/

• The Mac-cessibility Network - News podcasts
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=279093812
Also check the web site for tips:
http://www.lioncourt.com/category/quick-tips-iphone/
And especially for the list of accessible iPhone/iPod Touch apps:
http://www.lioncourt.com/the-accessible-iphone-3gs/

Some great sources of articles and podcasts, like the Serotek blog
pages and their Serotalk web pages, don't have podcast feeds or
entries in iTunes.

• Go to the Serotalk web pages at:
http://serotalk.com/
and check the archive entries by month, particularly the dates close
to the release of the iPhone 3GS at the end of June and the beginning
of July.

There's also the viphone list at Google Groups:
http://groups.google.com/group/viphone
and you can subscribe to:
viphone-subscr...@googlegroups.com

HTH. This is not meant to be an exhaustive list, and someone who
actually has an iPhone may be able to provide a better summary. The
viphone list is not archived at the secondary Mail Archive site, so
unlike the case for this list, I find it harder to keep track of
content posted about the iPhone and search out content.

Cheers,

Esther

If you are in an area with a lot of people using wireless routers you and they
can sometimes be getting the same signal. Where I live there are 584 other
units in the complex and at any given time there are at least one other wifi
network open. If either network are open you and or others will see play lists
from other computers. One of the new features of I tunes 9 is the ability to
share Itunes content from all the computers in my "home network". I have four
macs and all have differing content from movies, music and pod casts. Since I
neither have the time of desire to duplicate itunes libraries on all those macs
I just turn on sharing between the macs I want to use.

For example, the computer in my bedroom has a lot of old-time radio on it. If I

RE: songs appearing in iTunes?

2009-09-27 Thread Donna Goodin

Yeah, I agree, it does seem odd that Itunes would do that, you would think
there'd be copyright issues. I had the whole song, at least for the two that I
checked. The selection was also weird. With the exception of the Randy Neumann
song, they were all instrumental, Lioness and Lucy is of course the Charlie
Brown theme song, the other one was jazz piano, and the fourth one was sort of
a hip-hop thing. So it kind of had that marketing feel to it, you know, a
smattering of different types of music so that at least one category might
appeal. Who knows, but I'll definitely be watching my library for a while.
Take care,

RE: songs appearing in iTunes?

2009-09-27 Thread Donna Goodin
Hmm, interesting. I would not have thought of that. It's only about four
songs, and I don't see any playlists other than the ones I created, which was
why I wondered if Apple wasn't doing something to try and entice me to buy more
music. But turning off sharing sounds like a good thing to do regardless of
whether or not that's the problem, so I will definitely do it. Thanks for the
suggestion.

I'm no expert, but I do a lot of things with Itunes. From the way you describe
your situation it sounds like you are getting someone Elses wifi and their play
list is popping up on you machine.  Go into Itunes preferences, click "sharing"
and turn all that stuff off.

Hope this helps.

After tabbing over to songs, interact with songs and then expand songs
then move down to genres and select your genre and interact with that
genre. Once you do that, another list opens inside that genre with
relevant streams. So move down to each stream and select it and then open
it up.On Thu, 1 Jan 2009, Robert Dehard wrote:
