Checking Battery Status

2010-12-29 Thread Les Kriegler
My hard drive needed to be replaced and now I'm using the Battery Menu to check
battery status. When I navigate to it, hours remaining is all over the place.
When it was fully charged, battery remaining showed at a little over 4 hours
which I thought was quite low. Then, at 94%, that number went over 5 hours.
Then I checked at 86% and it was showing as a little over 3 hours remaining.
Now at 85%, the number is back over 4 hours. Is this specific to my machine or
is this a bug in the software itself? Thanks.

2010-12-29 Thread Michael Thurman
the ammount of time remaining can change alot depending on wha tyou are doig at
the time for example I can get 7 hours when i fire up th emac and am not
doing anything but it settles down to a reasonable 5 hours after a littl ebit
it is based on current power consumption rates and such screen brightness
makes quite a difference as does disk and optical drive use and processor load
screen set on bright listening to a cd or dd and in a skype call and my mattery
will go down quickly an dthis will be indicated on the time left display for
me it seems to be fairly accurate if you continue to do what you are already
going with the machine at the time of your check

Re: Using new Mac Mini without a display connectedn

I run windows on it now, but I did have 2.6.4. I also now have my LG TV

very long. It could be a recent thing, I plan to re-install OSX on that
machine soo, so I'll do it without the tv pluged into it, and see what happens!

been after the 10.6.5 update, but not positive. I'm wondering what might be
different between your mini and mine. Can you tell me what Mini model you
have, what keyboard/mouse you're using, what other peripherals you have
connected, and what OS version you have?

I've got the Mini 2.66 server version running 10.6.5 client, not server. I

Adium and Facebook chat

it will show a facebook contact, is if they start a conversation with me first.
Is there any way I can get round this?

2010-12-29 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay,

1. Is Click to flash turned on?

2. In the settings, do you have it set so that the initial behavior is set to
load but not play videos automatically?

If so, you should notice a difference. ONe small detail. When you VO+right
over an audio book, and you pass the book title, you might need to VO+left and
right to get the Audio element control tool bar to show up.

 mind, I have two questions.

 1. For those of you who also have this flash extension, have y'all
 noticed this difference in audible.com?

 2. Now, for those of you without the extension, are you still needing
to play samples using the mouse method?

 Thanks.

Re: Interact with Messages Table

2010-12-29 Thread Colin M
Hi Jim!
Yes you can!
But you might need to do a bit of customisation depending on what you like or
need!
Anyway open vo utility vo+f8 and interact with the categories table!
Pick verbosity and stop interacting, then press vo+space on the general tab [
it might already be selected ] and scroll to the verbosity setting button and
choose low!
Now you will find a lot of things are no longer spoke to you including the item
you wish to stop!
But before you change the verbosity have a look at what is set in the high
settings!
When on the general scroll to the disclosure and expand it with vo+\ then there
will be a table of everything and how its set, just interact and have a look!
You can change what and how things are in there!
Each item has the option to go from high to custom!
So pick one that you think might solve your issue and change it to low!
Then leave the window and see if it worked!
If not go back and put that one back to high and change another!
You might set it up in other ways to help you that I cannot think of! ::]
Sorry for the long post but I hope this helps!

It does, but it's a bit fiddly. I have my view set to as columns in Finder.
You have to interact with the file list first, then navigate with arrows to the
file you want to get the public link to. Only available in the dropbox\public
folder. Then, the copy public link is in the dropbox menu. Select that and
the public link goes to your clipboard.

question about compalation cds

2010-12-29 Thread Sarai Bucciarelli
All:
I have the latest version of iTunes 10 on a MBP. When I transfer a cd with
verious artists to my new Nano, and set it for album view, it will say
something like Passion The Awakening Various artists. When I switch to artist
view, then I can see all artists. However if I transfer the same album to my
iPhone 4, it will say Passion Awakening Hillsong. Hillsong is an artist on
that particular cd, but not the main artist. How can I fix this to show
correctly on my phone? It shows correctly in iTunes, and on my Nano.

Re: Click to Flash Now Working with Audible

2010-12-29 Thread Justin Ekis
Hi Teresa,

I think I see your problem. You certainly don't want to add audible to the
whitelist. The whitelist tells click to flash to allow the site to load it's
original flash content instead of converting or blocking it. It kind of feels
backwards, but by adding a site to the whitelist you are disabling click to
flash and letting the site do it's own thing.

Hope this helps.

A dropbox issue.

2010-12-29 Thread James Malone
Hi guys. I'm having a slight drop box issue on my MBP, which I've never had on
my Mac Mini. I just downloaded and installed the latest version of dropbox, and
all went well. Once I tried to open dropbox, almost nothing happened. When I
say almost, I mean almost.
Dropbox opened, but voiceover treated it as if there were no windows, and
nothing I did worked. I tried to click the mouse, but voiceover said it
couldn't bring the mouse into that area. I turned cursor tracking off, but it
still didn't do anything. It was as if voiceover was focused on 2 things at
once. Both the partly opened dropbox, and finder. The only thing I could do,
was press enter. Once I pushed enter, dropbox would completely close
altogether. I tried to go into the menu bar with this partially opened dropbox,
and VO just treated it as if I was still in finder. Therefor, it showed me all
the finder menus. Has anyone else had this issue? and most importantly, how do
I fix it?
Cheers, James.

Hi,

Yup, this has always happened to me. There is nothing you can do about it.
If you want to make changes to dropbox, you need to access it from the dropbox
icon in the status menu

Making Music on a Mac

2010-12-29 Thread Austin Seraphin
It always amazes me how Mac users have a family vibe. We feel empathy when we
hear of the death of a fellow Mac user. Because of this, I first wanted to pass
on the sad news that a long-time Mac user and professional musician has passed
away. Peter Sleazy Christopherson helped found such legendary industrial
bands as Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, and Coil. He died in his sleep on
November 24th.

While reflecting and self-reflecting upon these reflections, I decided that
this marked the time to finally get into making music on my beautiful iMac.
I've started using Amadeus Pro at the excellent recommendation of list members.
That does multi-track editing. Now I guess I need a sequencer. I don't even
know exactly what I want. I created .mod files as a teen-ager, if anyone
remembers those. I also toyed with some Windows sequencing before my
installation crashed fabulously for the final time.

I've heard about the new Garage Band, supposedly with improved accessibility.
One guy told me he didn't find it so, but others seem to like it. I've also
seen some other music programs in the Apple store and elsewhere. I want
something I can easily learn, something with which I can start making trance
music as soon as possible, and something that will give me room to grow, with a
shallow learning curve. I also plan to do strange and wonderful things with
instruments, including using sacred mathematical scales, as researched by Hans
Cousto. http://akashaproject.de gives examples of this. I'd appreciate any
recommendations anyone may have. No doubt others have asked similar questions,
so I apologize in advance.

 - Austin

PS: I have iLife 11 on my MacBook Air. I would rather have it on my iMac. I
wonder if I could just transfer it from one machine to another? If not I guess
I'd have to pay the $49 if I want to go that route.
