Selecting Destination For restoring on Disk Utility

2011-11-18 Thread James Lee

Hi,

I'm trying to restore a partition from a CCC image using disk utility.
When I go to the restore tab, I can click the image button and select
the image file created by CCC, but I cannot drag the partition to a
destination field.
I wiped out my entire internal hard drive in order to partition my
internal hard drive for my need and start from scratch, so I cannot use
CCC to restore. Only option I have is to restore using the disk utility
from the lion installation flash drive.
However, drag and drop function on lion Voice Over doesn't work on this
case. It says something like drag and drop failed. I also tried the old
drag and drop method with vo+shift+space, but it doesn't work either.
I searched the archive, and someone mentioned that there is a podcast on
this topic. However, I couldn't find any link for the podcast. I'd
really appreciate if someone can either explain how I can select
destination for restoring on disk utility or send me the link to the
podcast.

Thanks,

JL

questions about videos

2011-11-18 Thread Stephanie Mitchell

Hi all.
I have a link that was given to me of some videos. They are in
mp4 format. When I try to download them, there is a play button,
with another thingy that tells me how many mins or seconds it has
to go to have it downloaded I think. but when it got to 0
seconds, and I press play, it starts the process all over again.
How do I download these vidoes? I need them for a course I'm
studying.

Re: Itunes Match

2011-11-18 Thread Dan Roy
yes, but, it won't automatically replace them. You would have to first delete
the old version, then, if iTunes has a match for the song in the iTunes store,
you would then be able to download it. Also, after setting up match, it needs
to upload the songs that iTunes doesn't have, this does take some time.

I have found a few miner glitches where it says it uploaded a song, but either
didn't get it all or something like that.

Re: Logitech Solar Keyboard for Mac

2011-11-18 Thread Scott Rumery
Yes you did answer this question a couple of days ago, but as I said in my
latest message on my Mac when I go into system preferences, keyboard, and
then the keyboard tab there is no check box for using the F keys for software
functions. That is why I asked if there was anyone on the list that was using
this particular model keyboard, and if so if they were able to enable the F key
functionality.

Word Games for the Mac?

2011-11-18 Thread Brianna Snyder
Hi,

I've been looking for word games. The only ones I've been able to find were for
the IOS devices, and even those weren't totally accessible. However, I thought
that it would be nice to be able to play some kind of word game on the
computer. Suggestions, anyone?

How about any other Mac games, aside from the RS games client?

Thanks,
Brianna

Re: accessable banking?

2011-11-18 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

To each their own. It is accessible in my opinion, and I think that was your
original question. Is it cluttered? Yes. But all the functions and features
of the website can be accessed with voiceover. I understand accessible can be
subjective. If you know exactly what your want to do, you can jump right to it
with the rotor or item chooser. In my experience, all sites with screen
readers or like this. I state again, I think the site needs work as far as its
layout but, its accessible.

I never even thought of that. But doesn't that make reading a long book

update for Vmware Fusion available - not looking like anything new in the accessibility department

2011-11-18 Thread Matthew Campbell
Hi everyone.
VMware Fusion 4.1 is out. Not sure how long it's been out but I just saw it
today when I checked for updates for the heck of it.
I've updated and it doesn't look like theres anything new in the accessibility
department. I personally think that this is okay. I've always found Fusion easy
to use to get done the work that I need to do in windows.
There is however a new shortcut that can be used to put the VM in to full
screen mode. It is Control Command F. The older keystroke can still be used if
you wish as well. When you put the VM in to full screen, VO gets really chatty
about what space you are in so be prepared for that.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone.
Sorry if you are seeing this information twice.
Matthew Campbell.

cannot save script

2011-11-18 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Hi,

I'm trying to work with the following code:

> tell document 1 of application "TextEdit"
> set wordcount to the (count of words) as text
> set charactercount to the (count of characters) as text
> end tell
> say wordcount & " words and " & charactercount & " characters"

I paste it in to the source box and leave everything else as it is with the
results box checked and the Results radio button selected. No matter how much
I try, though, I just cannot save the thing. I try to save it in the
Macintosh/Library/Scripts folder but I get a dialog that says that the script
cannot be saved. What gives?

Re: Macbook Air just died!

2011-11-18 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I've seen this with other Apple laptop models. It has something to do with the
SMC (System Management Controller) which normally you can reset without going
to the Apple Store.

1. Make sure the unit is powered down.
2. Plug in your power adapter to the wall and the computer.
3. Hold down the left side shift-control-option keys and the power button at
the same time.
4. Release all keys at the same time.
5. Wait a few seconds then press your power button.

If it restarts now, you should be up and running. If it does not, then to the
Apple Store you should go. It is sometimes remedied by simply removing the
MBAs built-in battery for 15 to 20 minutes then replacing it. This should only
be done by a qualified Apple Technician. If that doesn't do it, then it's most
likely something to do with the power supply or logic board. In either case,
it's a job for the qualified Apple Technician.

Good luck.

Logitech Solar Keyboard for Mac

2011-11-18 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello, I recently purchased a Logitech Solar keyboard for my Mac and I really
do like this keyboard except for one thing. It seems as though that the F keys
perform hardware actions, and I need them to perform software actions, but I
can't see anywhere on my system where I can make this change. I know that it
is suppose to be in System Preferences under Keyboard within the keyboard tab,
on my Mac there is no place where I can tell my Mac I want the F keys to
perform software functions. My question is; is there anyone else on the list
that has this Logitech Solar keyboard, and if there is were you able to change
the way this keyboard handles the F keys?

Re: Skype and VO

2011-11-18 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
Hi Kirsten:

you can set up a keyboard command to open Skype or bring it to the front with
Keyboard Commander with VO. There is no global hot key to answer a call
unfortunately. Command Shift H, while in the Skype window, will hang it up.

Pressing just the control key will shut VO up; this is a toggle; press it again
and VO will resume speaking from that point, unless you've typed a command or
used the keyboard. Command F5 (or Cmd Function F5, depending on your settings
and computer) will turn VO off and on quickly without the need to reboot. If
one doesn't work, try the other; E.G., if Command F5 doesn't turn VO on, try
Command Function F5 if you're on a Macbook.
If you want more help, add me on Skype and we can talk it out.

Macbook Air just died!

2011-11-18 Thread Goodin, Donna
Hi all,

I just had the strangest thing happen. My MBA was asleep, not plugged in.
I lifted the lid to wake it up, and VO started saying "no Items"over and
over again. Ihit control to stop the speech, and then tried to navigate
around to see what was up, but VO wouldn't say anything. I tried to shut
down but couldn't, so did a force shut-down, i.e. held down the on/off key.
Now it won't come back on at all. I was sure that the battery had a lot of
juice left, but just in case, I plugged it in, but that has made no
difference. Have any of you other MBA owners seen anything like this? If
so, was there any solution other than a trip to the Apple store?
Thanks,
Donna

With regard to how to use the piece of code someone sent for the Text Edit word

Skype and VO

2011-11-18 Thread Kirsten Edmondson
Hi,
I have finally got Skype to work! Yipee!
However, I'm having VO trouble …
It talks too much and is really annoying when I'm on a call, so I switch it
off, but for some reason, I can't get it back on again after the call has
ended, I have to reboot the Mac first … and press the key stroke several times
… can anyone advise how I can mute VO quickly for while I'm on a call, and
particularly how I get it back afterwards?
Also is there somewhere I can go for the key combination commands for Skype?
Like hanging up and particularly answering a call? I can't seem to find a list
and I've looked in the Apple, Skype and File menus with no joy …
Thanks.
Kirsten.

Re: word count in Text Edit? Yep.

2011-11-18 Thread Hai Nguyen Ly
Hi Ray,
All you need to do is to copy and paste the script in to the script source edit
field within a new document using AppleScript Editor and save the script in a
preferred location. Once this has been done, you can use the VO keyboard
commander to create a shortcut key to activate the script.
Hope this helps.

Re: accessable banking?

2011-11-18 Thread Karen Lewellen

I really must disagree here.
Not only from the website standpoint, but in General.
I also appreciate all the wisdom.
Still I base banking on the over all company behavior, and as someone who
was a customer of Chase for more than ten years, I would not recommend
them to anyone.
Your files example is a case in point. Why should you have to work around
it, instead of their fixing those files...if they are so understanding of
accessibility?
You know how to work around them but would a person new to adaptive and
now new to chase who then had to call for information get support?

I know not.
Add in the number of consumer complaints about them in General, and I say
steer clear if you can.

It might be easier to associate a keyboard command with the following Apple

tell document 1 of application "TextEdit"
set wordcount to the (count of words) as text
set charactercount to the (count of characters) as text
end tell
say wordcount & " words and " & charactercount & " characters"

You might accidentally have muted VO from the trackpad. I find that if my
kitties' tails decide to swipe across the trackpad, they unerringly mute VO.
Ok, sometimes it's my sleeve that does it. LOL Anyhow, it's a
three-finger-double-tap to toggle on and off. There might be other issues, but
that's most often been the culprit for me.

temporarily lost speech

2011-11-18 Thread Eugenia Firth
Folks, we may have addressed this earlier, I don't remember. However, I just
had a somewhat frustrating experience, and I think I somehow did it to myself.
I was writing in TextEdit using a Focus 40 braille display. All of a sudden,
VoiceOver said Speech Off, and I couldn't get it back for a while. Luckily, it
continued to run the braille display. The track pad wouldn't turn on either. VO
plus f8 didn't work either. Restarting the computer didn't work either because
the speech immediately turned itself off when the computer came back up. I
finally got smart and did VO spacebar and typed voice. That brought up the
utility, although it didn't have anything on the braille display except the
word voice. Luckily, I was able to use the braille display to get the speech
back.

If this ever happens again, is there a keyboard command which apparently I
typed somehow to get the speech back?

Regards,
Gigi

Re: Moving Mobile Me to iCloud Issues

2011-11-18 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hello Kevin.

I also had this problem but Mark Taylor was very kind to help me.

The steps are here for you to follow.

1. Please go to HTTP://mobileme.com/move.

Then follow the instructions. This may not work with Jaws as there is some kind
of graphics. Hopefully this should work with Voice Over. If not, try another
screenreader in Windows. I could not use Safari to do it, but Mark did it fine
for me at the time over Skype.

Kawal.
