Installing an accessible version of Chrome on the Mac?
Hello everyone, Could someone please refer me to some documentation on how to install the latest version of Chrome with accessibility on my Mac? I am just a bit confused. Is the latest accessible version of Chrome called ChromeVox or is ChromeVox an extension for Chrome? Lastly, which version of Chrome should I install? I am not really into beta testing these days, unless I have to, so the version number for the latest stable, non-beta version would suffice nicely. Re: Installing an accessible version of Chrome on the Mac?
Hello Michael, Just go to: http://www.google.com/chrome If you go there from your Mac, the site will automatically present the link for downloading the latest Mac version. The download is a dmg file, so you install it the usual way, by copying the .app file inside it to your Applications folder. Note that Chrome includes a process to update your installed version, so after installing it for the first time, the browser should install new versions automatically. Re: Installing an accessible version of Chrome on the Mac?
Thank you very much, André, for your quick response. My question, however, is whether this version will automatically have accessibility built into it or whether I need to install something else. Does Chrome automatically detect that I am using VoiceOver? From what you wrote, I may be incorrectly surmising that this is the regular version of Chrome which, if I understand correctly, still needs an accessibility plug-in. Blackboard Accessible
Hi Shanna, I use black board with VoiceOver, I know it was just updated for my university while we were on break. I find VO works pretty well with it, I have used it with VO for 2 semesters soon to be three when this semester is over and Jaws fr the other 4, I would say both work alright with it. I can and do participate on the discussion board and can access all of the links on my professor's pages. I am using Safari for BlackBoard tough rather then Google Chrome which I just installed to see if it would work better than Safari. Use the track pad or VO keys with BB not quick nab because sometimes they don't work and try interacting with the content, this will allow VO to read and work with the discussion Board. Jumping to pages in Preview
Hi Everyone, I am in the process of reading some multi-paged documents in Preview, and can't seem to figure out how to quickly jump to a specific page. Re: perhaps not new but solution for safari busy… : google chrome
Chrome is on a roughly 6-week release cycle so it doesn't take long to get old. It should prompt you to update. Most people will be on the Stable releases whcih currently is 16.0.912.75. If you're a little more daring you can jump to the preview beta release (17.0.963) or the even more bleeding edge developer build (18.0.1003). If you want the very latest there is also the nightly build called Canary which is like the webkit nightly. All the latest new features and all the latest new bugs. Canary and regular Chrome can co-exist on the same machine. CB On 1/10/12 8:46 AM, Rose Morales wrote: William, Wow, it turns out that I was an 11.0.x build. Mac Mini pro audio weirdness
So I've been fighting with nasty audio distortion on the audio out on a Mac mini and finally solved it, but I don't understand it. Last March I got a Mini which I use for AV purposes connected to a Mackie 16 channel mixer, amps etc. The audio out from Keynote, iTunes and such was horribly distorted. If I used headphones it was fine. The built-in speaker was also fine. As it turns out the house sound system is mono so, like I usually do, I have a Y cable that connects the left and right together before plugging it into the mixer. On a whim I had pulled one of the cables off the Y and the audio problem went away. In other words, if I just have left or just right it works fine, but the old Y cable trick made it all distorted. What was weirder was if I ran the mini's left and right into separate channels on the mixer it was also fine. All I can figure out was that the output signals combined were too hot for the mixer to handle (doubtful) or there is some digital weirdness that the two signals together cancel or combine in a horrible way. The same files through the same Y cable from my wife's MacBook worked just fine. Soo, not sure I have a question other than theories as to why this happens and if you run into the same kind of trouble, don't Y the left and right audio outputs from a Mini together. Hi Lindsay. I haven't used matlab, but I am using Numbers a lot. My use of Numbers improved immensely when I discovered headers, both for rows and columns. RE: Just Curious -- Why Is Safari Not As Problematic and Busy On the IPhone as On the Mac?
Hi, I'd assume because it's a stripped down version of Safari on the iPhone, which requires less processing power and ram to run sufficiently. Plus you also have to keep in mind safari on the mac could also be running lots of extentions, which could ultimately slow down performance. -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Christine Grassman Sent: Wednesday, January 11, 2012 1:47 PM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com; viph...@googlegroups.com Subject: Just Curious -- Why Is Safari Not As Problematic and Busy On the IPhone as On the Mac? Hi Lindsay. I have the latest version of Numbers. Here are some things I really like about it over Excel. Let's say you want to add a column of numbers. After you have put in your numbers in a column, you just go to Insert and then choose function. Then the first one on the list is sum. You don't have to type in the formula. It's got averaging and multiplying in there as well, and I can't remember what else. Re: Clearwire internet? Is it any good?
Hi Matthew, I'm using Clear's mobile plan, so I don't know whether any of these comments are relevant to the accessibility of setting up or administering your home service. Basically, this involves using a personal WiFi hotspot that picks up service from Clear's 4G towers. A fully charged ClearSpot will run for about 4 and a half hours, and support up to 5 connected devices. These numbers will vary according to the number of devices you connect, and the condition of the signal. (I never have as many as five devices connected simultaneously). In order to query the connection status, assuming I have connected with Clear, I point my browser to: 192.168.1.1 This gives the summary status page for the connection. For example, the maximum WIMAX signal is 5 bars, and the graphics will be announced as 5 png image (or a lower number). The battery charge is shown eithaer as charging if the unit is connected to a mini-USB charger, or else is given in terms of a maximum of 3 stars (also announced as a number from 1 to 3 with png image appended). You can get other information on the number of devices connected, signal status, etc. I've never had to change the defaults (e.g. Wi-Fi channel, or WPA encryption scheme). Again, I suspect this information may not be that helpful to you, because I've never done a home modem setup. I basically use this as a personal WiFi access point, and maintain minimal data plans for the iPhone. This provides connection to multiple devices at basically faster speed than I would get from my 3G iPhone service, and also works when I travel. This was one of these two mobile device plans supported for $55/month that I split with someone else a year and a half ago. I bought the ClearSpot I was using a year and a half ago for $29 when they had the 1-day special iSpot promotion -- normally these cost $99. This has worked well for me, but my home service is TimesWarner cable modem. My impression is that the quality of service of any WiFi carrier varies so dramatically from region to region that you can only ask other who live in exactly the same area of the country that you do to get an estimate of likely performance. Re: Clearwire internet? Is it any good?
Hi Cheree, Since I posted about using Clear's mobile services about the same time as your reply post, I should mention that when I got Clear service, there was a local kiosk and salesperson, who walked through all the sign up and demoed use of the ClearSpot. So I wasn't aware of accessibility problems with sign up screens. This was something they were doing for all customers who showed up at their offices. I was wondering how to do this with a Imac! If you have to hold down the keys and then press the power button its a bit tricky with the power button on the back of the Imac! Any tips? I usually use my left thumb across the cmd and option keys then my left index and right pinky for the r and p respectively. What it does is clears out your memory so that any residual stuff that has, for whatever reason, remained clogging up your memory, is sent off into la la land. This process helps quite often when Macs are behaving erratically. It is also suggested by Apple as a next step in certain troubleshooting situations. For example, the Restart is suggested first then the Clear PRAM next, when troubleshooting power issues. HTH. Later... To do this, shut down your machine, then hold down the Command, Option, letter P and letter R keys and press the Power key. Keep holding down the four keys until you've heard the start up chime at least 3 times. Then release them and the machine will boot as usual. This procedure can cure all kinds of strange behaviour. Safari bookmarks
Hi. Am I missing something here? I tried using the command option B command to call up my list of book marks. It seems you have to move up to the first table, interact with that table, find the bookmark you want, stop interacting with that table, move down to the next table, interact with that table, move over to the bookmark listing and then press spacebar. Can it possibly be that complicated to pick a bookmark or is there something obvious I am missing? Thanks. Thanks.
