Hi,

Just wondering if you upgraded from Lion or did a fresh install? I saw this
behavior on my mini during the beta cycle and never did get a resolution out of
Apple for it. I had it occur after the release and it seemed to get better
after 10.8.1 was released. The command f5 trick that Ricardo suggested worked
well for me too. Here's the thing though. I was having some other issues that
caused me to nuke and pave my system. Since then I have not had any problem
with this. I know it's a hassle but you might consider a fresh install.

What should I do?

Apps not working

2012-09-01 Thread Rahul Bajaj
Hi all,

I have been facing another issue about which I wrote a few days ago.
Whenever I connect my iPhone to my Mac, for charging, transferring
songs or for whatever reason, all the third party apps stop working
after I disconnect my phone from my Mac.
They stop working in the sense that the screen merely blinks after I
tap twice on the icon of the app concerned and then returns back to
how it was before.
Usually, removing and installing a few of the apps fixes the issue as
all apps start working perfectly again after doing that.

Has anyone here faced a similar issue?
Why does this happen, and how can I permanently fix this extremely
frustrating issue?

Cheers,
Rahul

Introducing myself

2012-09-01 Thread Christine Olivares
Hello everyone,
My name is Christine. My membership slipped through the cracks, and I was
finally approved. I got a mac in december of 2011, and my husband told me about
this group. Since then, I have been waiting for my membership to be approved.

I want to thank Cara for figuring everything out so I could be approved. I feel
I am much more independent now that I have my Mac. I am a slower learner, but I
am getting the hang of it and love it so much more than JaWS.

It is great to be on this mailing list. I am excited to learn more about the
Mac. Again, thank you, Cara, for all you did for me. God bless you all.

SSD can be expensive to add, but the advantages I have found is the speed
in which the system boots up or returns from sleep. Also, copying or moving
files and folders on the system is quite fast as well. I have 512 GB of SSD in
my Mac Book Pro, and I find it worth the money.

Empowerment is a mechanism by which individuals, groups and communities gain

 FIRM UPDATE

What is just shy of leaps and bounds? I guess it would be a hot skip and a
jump. Whatever the case we are growing by the week. We not only have new team
members we also have new accounts in two states, putting the count at 3. Our
goal by 2016 is to be in all U.S. states.

We can't say too much about the book we will be releasing later this year but
what we can say it's going to be like one you have never seen before. It will
have audio, video, and photos right in the book. It will be the first ever
multi-media book accessible to the blind and at a cost that will knock your
socks off. That sounds like the price will be high, but its going to be
really cheap for what you get. The teaser is it will be written on the Apple
secrets on how to master iOS.

The truth of the matter is that we are excited about the lives we change, the
fun we have doing it and the pleasure we derive from the Apple WOW factor and
our ability to bring to the blind community something they have never seen
 before. LOL

 CALL TO ACTION

OK, here's the deal! The numbers on new subscribers to this newsletter for

Twitter is going good and Facebook has a face of its own with 2 page LIKES

I also took out my optical drive and replaced it with the original Hard drive

Macbook Pro keeps dropping wifi connection

2012-09-01 Thread Kimberly thurman
Hi folks:

All of a sudden, today, my MBP, late 2009 model, still running SL, keeps
dropping its wifi connection. When I check it in the system menu, VO M twice
quickly, it says it is still connected to my home network, but Safari or Webkit
just sits there. I turn airport off and then back on and it will work again
for a few minutes, and then lose connection again. I got AT Uverse a couple of
months ago, but it has worked great until today. Other windows machines on the
network seem to be keeping their connections just fine. I told my computer to
forget the network and reestablished it, but still the same story. This is
hugely frustrating. I'll appreciate any ideas.

Thanks!

Kim

Re: Macbook Pro keeps dropping wifi connection

2012-09-01 Thread Kimberly thurman
I removed all remembered networks. I recycled the modem and router. We'll see
what happens. It seems like I can switch about f5 or 6 web pages, and then it
just drops out. It still shows as connected in the airport menu and in system
prefs, but no internet. Let's pray it stays connected since I did the reboot
of the router and modem. Someone had also set a speaker right next to the
router, which had not been there before. I moved that too.

I hope there's nothing wrong with the wifi device in my MBP. I know things
can interfere with the signal, but nothing has really changed around here,
except for that speaker that I just moved.

If there is an unsecured network in your area, then your MBP may still try to
join it. There's also a check box somewhere in Airport settings that will stop

Re: Logitech Media Server

2012-09-01 Thread Emrah
Hi Marc,

It's an amazing piece of software that I use everyday to play and manage the
music of my whole home.

You can use a lighter interface that is totally accessible. Just append
/classic/ to the URL you use to access your interface. E.g.:
http://127.0.0.1:9000/classic/
You can also use an app called iPeng on your iPhone, the developer made an
amazing job to make it 100% accessible. It's impressive!

A few years ago I developed an application to remote control the server using
your voice. It responded to some microphones and phones I had in the house. I
stopped it since it started going off randomly. hahaha

Enjoy!

 Hello listers,

I have long wanted the VO keys Control Option to be available as the
caps lock key. this would allow one finger to hold down the keys. Also,
the location of the Caps Lock key is ideal for reaching many keys that need
to be pressed with the Voice Over keys.

Using the caps lock key as the VO modifier would dramatically reduce the
times I find my fingers contorted trying to press multiple keys all over
 the keyboard.

For those of us who type with our fingers on the home row this allows us to
use the VO modifier while keeping our hands ready to continue typing.

I'm pleased to let you know that this is now possible. Thanks to Takayama
Fumihiko, the developer of KeyRemap4Macbook. this application in
conjunction with another application by the same developer allows a Mac
user to remap the caps lock key as the Control and Option keys pressed
 together.

The other application is called PCKeyboardHack. These two apps and a file
created for VO users makes this possible.

Although a write up of this process would probably be more efficient
for most of us, that is not my strength. Instead, I have provided a link
below to a podcast that walks through the set up.

In addition below are links needed to obtain the applications and the
 specially constructed xml file.

Finally, I have provided links to some additional help documentation

The application developer responded to my request for this capability
within hours of my written request. I have also been asked to contact
again if there are any other ways the application can help blind users.

This was such a nice response. I'm still amazed as I have written to Apple
asking for this every few months or so, only getting back the standard
answer, thank you for your suggestion. .

I'm so grateful to now have this ability.

Also, please be aware that this application can also remap other keys. For
example you could make the command key on the right of your space bar a
Control key giving you another set of Voice Over Keys.
KeyRemap4Macbook also creates a num pad on your regular keyboard. this
makes it possible to use num pad commander on a standard keyboard.

This is covered in a excellent post by Ester on the Mac-Access.net list.

One gentle reminder. This is donation ware so if you use this as much as I
do please support this developer. and, as we come up with more ways this

I don't think it's a legal thing at all. Rather, I suspect it's a standards

reach my right hand way over to the w key, and this was quite a contortion
just to hear what word I was on, I don't need to do this any more. I do it
all with my left hand never leaving the home row keys.

 Hope this info helps.

So what does happen when you need the caps lock?

 Hello listers,

I have long wanted the VO keys Control Option to be available as the
caps lock key. this would allow one finger to hold down the keys. Also,
the location of the Caps Lock key is ideal for reaching many keys that
need to be pressed with the Voice Over keys.

Using the caps lock key as the VO modifier would dramatically reduce the
times I find my fingers contorted trying to press multiple keys all over
 the keyboard.

For those of us who type with our fingers on the home row this allows us
to use the VO modifier while keeping our hands ready to continue typing.

I'm still amazed as I have written to
Apple asking for this every few months or so, only getting back the
standard answer, thank you for your suggestion. .

I'm so grateful to now have this ability.

Also, please be aware that this application can also remap other keys.
For example you could make the command key on the right of your space bar
a Control key giving you another set of Voice Over Keys.
KeyRemap4Macbook also creates a num pad on your regular keyboard. this
makes it possible to use num pad commander on a standard keyboard.

This is covered in a excellent post by Ester on the Mac-Access.net list.

Vision Australia spell corrections podcast question

2012-09-01 Thread Bill Holton
Hi.

I remember listening to a Vision Australia podcast about spell correcting
with OSx. I have searched the site, but can't find it. Anyone have any
suggestions what the title might have been or where it's hiding/

Thanks.

Key remap question

2012-09-01 Thread Bill Holton
Hi.
I follow the steps for the key remapping program, and it worked perfectly, at
least for my mac Bluetooth keyboard.
On my PC keyboard, but what I want to use, it had a different effect. The caps
lock key still does nothing, and the application key to the right of the alt
key is now the VO key. Is there some way I can get this working on my PC
keyboard as well?
Bill
