Re: Podcasters Unite!
hi mike, I have done somethings in radios before, but i haven't tried anything since i got the mac, so i'd be happy to link up and get something going. Re: Anyone have Terminal tricks and resources?
Sort of the difference between asking someone to do something for you and doing it yourself. When you ask someone else it may or may not get done the way you want it when you want it. Terminal lets you do exactly what you want, so I usually end up there when things are in a weird state like a file I can't seem to delete or to use a special tool to take care of repetitive tasks or bulk changes. So I'd start with working through a few tutorials and post here if you get stuck or something doesn't make sense. Re: Accessing SiriusXM content on the Mac
You probably will not be able to access it. The web based player is completely flash based, and flash is not accessible on the mac. Using something such as click to flash will not work either since they prevent flash content from loading which the player requires. Re: What gives with Spotlight and opening documents with the new software update?
It may be that somehow your keyboard focus has gotten messed up. Try turning voiceover off and on again. Also, are you opening from spotlight with vo-keys or just with return. I always open items from spotlight with return only; to use vo-keys-space requires that both your voiceover cursor and your keyboard cursor be on the menu item and this isn't always the case. Finally, sometimes when i hit enter on an item in spotlight I'll hear something that makes it sounds like I'm ending up somewhere else: for instance, something about one of my menu extras. But when I arrow down in the window i am in, I find that I have indeed had Text Edit open the file. Re: I feel dumb, I can't fine "notes" in ML apple mail
You can also find Notes in M L as a standalone app in the applications folder. If you want, you can press command-shift-t to add it to the dock. (You can use this shortcut to add any app to the dock once you focus on it in the applications folder.) UltraEdit for the Mac and Voiceover
I did a quick scan of the archives and found a post back in 2011 from Michael Busboom asking about this very same topic. But no responses. I use UltraEdit on my work computer (Windows box), and would like to use it on my MacBook Air as well. Has anyone used it on the Mac with Voiceover? I downloaded the trial, but so far I get a bunch of busy waits, and can't do too much. I wanted to give it a good try before removing it from my box. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Re: I feel dumb, I can't fine "notes" in ML apple mail
You can find them in the Notes app on your Mac. You open it up, and there's a table that shows all your notes. Or you can just type in the edit field there and the note will be saved. You might have the toolbar of the application in focus when the file opens. Try stopping interaction with the toolbar with VO-shift-up-arrow and then navigate the text area. What gives with Spotlight and opening documents with the new software update?
Is it my imagination, user error, or both? I am growing increasingly frustrated this morning with my inability to open documents quickly from Spotlight or from the Documents folder. Before, I would search for a title or phrase, find it with Spotlight, and open it. Alternatively, I would choose a document from the documents folder, open it, and no problem. Now, unless I go into Text Edit, hit open, and use the list to locate my document, or type in a title, I get all sorts of nonsense to slog through, rather than a quickly opened file. For example, when using Spotlight, clicking on a file brings up the Spotlight preferences menu. When choosing a document in the documents folder, I get a tool bar, search, and all the weirdness that comes up lately when I try opening a bookshare book in Safari. Can anyone shed any light on this or tell me what the heck I can do to get things back to some semblance of normalcy? Thanks. Re: Bookshare books and Safari redux
I did see that, but it said it is for people with reading disabilities and does not work well with screen readers. I just want to be able to open the files in my browser and read, as before. There is nothing which indicates this shouldn't be possible any longer; in fact, Bookshare specifically states that Mac users using a browser should be able to read books without one of their software tools. Thank you for your reply. Christine On Nov 9, 2012, at 9:58 AM, Becky Knaub wrote: > Hi, > there is a software called read out loud and there is a version for Mac to > read bookshare books. Re: blind friendly flatbed scanners? any ideas?
none that I use have touch screens or menus of any kind. I use just a simple Epson Perfection V33. It has four buttons for scanning, copying, etc - none of them are necessary and I don't bother with them. All scanner control is done through the scanning software such as ABBYY fine reader etc. I just plug the scanner into the computer USB port and let the scanning software deal with it. Honestly, you don't have to do anything with the scanner itself - just the scanning software. There's a difference between the two. - Original Message - From: "Adrienne Sinclair Chalmers" To: Sent: Thursday, November 08, 2012 5:38 PM Subject: blind friendly flatbed scanners? any ideas? OK, I know a scanner is a scanner, but some of them do menus which don't talk and make the dear little things more difficult for us to use. I suppose a lot of them will have touch screens now. Another issue I have had with scanners in the past is it being difficult to position documents/books for the best results. I suspect improvements in OCR may have made this less of a problem than it once was. Anyway, it must be difficult to judge which scanner to buy, or it wouldn't appear as a topic with such regularity. So, any nominations for a current model which is reasonably priced, isn't fiddly to use, can handle documents at a speed which wouldn't make it off-putting to scan a small book and works with Macs would be very welcome indeed. I guess that reasonably priced thing rules out all those, what I shall from now on know to refer to as, SARA things.
